Is 3 names + Surname too much?

I've already decided our baby boy (due end of this month) will be:
J---- William and then our surname which is 3 syllables long.... but can i add a third middle name of Kurt - or will that be too long??? it'll be 8 syllables in total.... Hmm

My dd has her first name, 2 middle names and a surname. It's fine, her third name Jessamy only ever appears as J on things anyway.

deemented · 11/01/2011 20:30

It's fine. DS's1&2 have two middle names.

Bumperlicious · 11/01/2011 20:36

It's fine. Dd has 2 middle names (mum's & MIL's!)

CupcakesHay · 11/01/2011 20:37

Phew. Ok - good i was worried it was a bit too long, too much of a mouthful!

Still have to persuade DH about Kurt... btu a bit of emotional blackmail after the labour will sort that one. Wink

BTW Jessamy was in my top 5 girls names - I love it!

I have two middle names but hate both of them - one was a grandmother's name, another is just a boring 'spare' name. I do find that a lot of forms only have space for one middle name/initial, so in some places I am down as E.X.E.Xpat, others E.X.Xpat, iyswm. I sometimes wonder about legally getting rid of the middle names, but it's not worth the hassle.

However, I still gave the DCs four names - first name, second name, my surname, DH's surname.

I think it's fine, even a bit "classy" Blush

However, DH has 2 middle names and really, really hates it. He is incredibly bitter that his parents cursed him in this way - really!

justonemorethen · 11/01/2011 22:13

He'll never use them all anyway so do what you want!
(Although remember he will need to fill in forms in later life and probably won't thank you that admin will always cock up.)

Deciduousblonde · 12/01/2011 00:30

I have a daughter with 2 middle names, and her post always seems to come with just the one middle initial!

So don't worry about it, I think it's nice to have a little bit extra Grin

Salmama · 12/01/2011 10:38

To me it's absolutely nice, don't worry!

Tillyscoutsmum · 12/01/2011 10:40

DS has 2 middle names (both quite long, together with a longish surname). I've just worked out its 12 syllables in total. He's going to hate us isn't he ? Blush

GandalfyCarawak · 12/01/2011 10:56

I think it is a bit long, personally, but as I'm in the minority please ignore me :o

EauRouge · 12/01/2011 10:58

I just counted too, DD's name has 12 syllables in all Grin I think it's fine, it's not like your DS would have to use all of his names if he didn't want to.

shouldnotbehere · 12/01/2011 14:13

Personally I prefer one middle name, easier on form filling, and you dont use your middle names. I prefer to keep it simple.

DH does not even have a middle name, and it has never bothered him.

StarlightPrincess · 12/01/2011 14:14

Both my DD and DS have two middle names, it's fine imo!

tebbles · 12/01/2011 17:31

Much prefer just the one middle to be honest, as it simplifies form filling in etc. Is the second middle name really necessary?

tjacksonpfc · 12/01/2011 17:55

My dd has 1 middle name however my ds has 3 middle names so his whole name is 5 names long lol.

QODneystones · 12/01/2011 17:59

DD has 2 middle names (each name is 2 syllables - surname 1) - 7 intotal

msbossy · 12/01/2011 21:41

I have two middle names and it's never bothered me that much but you do have to be even more careful about what those initials look and sound like. Before I got married my initials were an anagram of arse Blush.

wisteria12 · 12/01/2011 23:17

Well, mine have a first name, 3 middle names and a surname. So err...yeah.

ComeAlongPond · 12/01/2011 23:29

I have my first name, 3 middle names, and surname. In all it's fourteen syllables. Doesn't bother me at all.

ComeAlongPond · 12/01/2011 23:29

Sorry, it's 19 syllables. I missed out a few Blush

BikeRunSki · 12/01/2011 23:33

I like having three "first names" + surname, although only 9 syllables. DS has 3 names + surname too, 8 syllables. We have a very dull surname!

AddictedtoCheese · 12/01/2011 23:33

The only thing to consider is that will you possibly wish you'd saved one of the names for a future dc? My friend has had 2 dd's and couldn't decide between (e.g.) Lucy and Kate, called dd1 Lucy Kate Surname and then really, really regretted not just picking one. The middle names are almost never used so the Kate was wasted in her opinion.

Clowance · 13/01/2011 09:56

It'll be fine.

DS has got first name, two middle names, and a double barrelled surname. I do regret it sometimes because it makes form filling in a nightmare, but in day to day life he is just first name and second part of surname.

I've got two middle names. Never bothered me.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 13/01/2011 10:02

DD has two middle names. She's only just learned to spell Eleanor (9.8 Shock
