Another Esme question...sorry....

I have always loved this name so slightly gutted that it has the potential to explode in popularity. How many little Esme's do you know? Especialy if you are in London/SE? Fwiw I would pronounce it EsME not may. Tia.

I have a friend with an Esme (pronounced EsME) where I live but was at a party today (in SW) where there were two toddler Esme's and one new baby one.

Non round here in the Midlands. It's pretty. I think if it was going to explode in poularity then it would have done by now with all the twilight hype.

I know one in yr5, and one grown up. Both London.

I haven't met any here in Midlands, but I really love this name and desperately want it for DC3. DH wont have it tho, so we might go for Ivy instead.

In my area Esme has definately already exploded in popularity I am afraid! I am in SE England.

I know loads in London. All of them are under 2. I think it's the new Isla/Ella/Ava etc..

I have an Esme, she is 10 - so like to think I was ahead of the trend.

However, I also know one that is 11, another that is 8, another that is 7 and a 3 year old one too. Oh and one in her 40s too.

So I know 5 but I have also met probably 5 more over the past few years. In fact we always meet at least one whenever we go on holiday to Cornwall!

There are two at DD's nursery, one in DS's class and another in his piano class. I have a friend with a DD called Esme, a colleague with an Esme, a neighbour with an Esme. Most of them say it 'Es-may' though, only one 'Es-ME'.

Norfolk, there's one preschooler I know of (ditto for Isla).
We are swimming in Jasmines, Isobels and Poppies.

That is interesting as only one of 'mine' pronouces it Esmay. Most say EsME.

Norfolk too, know 3 under 5 (all Es-MAY). DD's preschool is all Lily, Molly, Ellie.

Ah bugger......thanks ladies. Why do I always seem to choose the ones that suddenly become the new big thing....yummy mummy I wish!!!! Interesting re the me/may thing though. Sigh....

I have an 11 yr old EsME - have known of a couple of others, one slightly older and one quite a bit younger - we're in N London.
imo, the talk about it exploding is tosh! so what if it does, it is a beautiful name, with a beautiful meaning.
I can't understand why parents would pass over a name they really like because some others have it also - it needs putting into perspective I think

Actually, call your child Esmerelda with Esme for short, just so she can surprise her friends with her fanatstic long name :)

Am in SE and I know an Esme in her mid 20s (es-ME) and a 5 yr old Esme (Es-may) - mine!!

We very nearly called our DD this (8 weeks ago) but were put off by the EsME/EsMAY thing. I would always want it pronounced EsME but it seems many would pronounce it EsMay. Also, I was walking around Ikea (of all places) and heard someone shout "EsMay, come 'ere" and it really put me off.

What did you go for in the end OkieCokie?

I saw a little Esme in Ikea also! They were calling her Essie!

Also intrigued to know what you went for Okie Cokie! We have probably decided on Ivy instead of Esme...
