My cousin linked me to this, and I immediately thought of the MN Babynames forum!

Here ya go.

LMAO at Oii Niinjaa Grin

That is pure genius!

(realises that she probably watches far too much martial arts movies/anime)

monkeyslut · 07/01/2011 10:31
Grin
Deciduousblonde · 07/01/2011 10:34

I thought that is what it was....lol...an Australian pal of mine mentioned it once and I daren't ask!

sfxmum · 07/01/2011 10:34

for a lot of them it just screams illiterate parents, there is no other possible explanation

stripeybumpsmum · 07/01/2011 12:03

Thanks, you've solved my baby naming dilemma.

Girl: Diammond Sparckler
Boy: so manu to choose from but I am thinking Zero won't cause any complex in later life. No? :)

stripeybumpsmum · 07/01/2011 12:05

Actually, re last post. Manu should be many but on basis many of that list appear to be names made up of random scrabble letters, perhaps Manu should be considered?

TCOB · 07/01/2011 12:13

BACARDEE Grin Grin Grin
One of my SIL's friends called her baby Deja-Vu...perhaps even too out-there for the list?

ShowOfHands · 07/01/2011 12:34

I've met a Demmy-Ocean before. She ambled through life reeking of patchouli and looking for rainbows under which to toot on her handmade ocarina.

diddl · 07/01/2011 12:50

What´s the criteria for a name being put on there I wonder?

Spotted Mercedes-what´s wrong with that?

Doesn´t seeem to take in other languages/cultures so quite ignorant.

diddl · 07/01/2011 12:51

Thought it said Boden at firstGrin

McGinger · 07/01/2011 13:33

Sorry just came back to this!

You pronounce it N-eye-ah. Hope that makes sense!

It's african, and it means purpose or aim!

rachel234 · 07/01/2011 14:37

Mercedes is a common Spanish name, nothing wrong with that imo.

ValiumTinselton · 07/01/2011 14:57

SOH, I know of a Turkish woman, her name in Turkish is something like Gambee (can't remember exactly) but she always goes by Dimple as that's what it means. It's actually a nice word to use as a name.

We can laugh at that list, but there's actually a bit of inspiration on it too, for people who would like some fresh ideas.

Even though the list is mocking bogans, I think to absolutely NO ability to recognise foreign names, therefore mixing them up with dakota=pheonix is perhaps a bit bogan in itself!

ValiumTinselton · 07/01/2011 14:59

just looked on google tools and the Turkish for Dimple is Gamze.
I like it! I think there is a Turkish population in Australia. So if they meet a Dimple they will get it.

ShowOfHands · 07/01/2011 14:59

I agree. Dimple is sweet.

YouCantTeuchThis · 07/01/2011 15:01

this site also tickled me!

donnie · 07/01/2011 15:02

BANJO ROCKET?
CHAOS?

bleedin ell.

Deciduousblonde · 07/01/2011 16:54

stripeybumpsmum..a friend of mine HAS called her son Manu, and his twin sister Shanti. Their father is Indian, so I gather they are eastern names :)

monkeyslut · 08/01/2011 01:26

Manu is also the name of a rather delicious here in australia.

CardyMow · 09/01/2011 01:18

Shock DS2's name is on that list. Ayden is not chavvy/ redneck/ bogan - It was my Great-grandad's name!

onimolap · 09/01/2011 01:26

Littleyellowteapot and Bullet:

The "X" is the symbol for Christ - as in Xmas, hence Xal = Christal

I came across a Dzejdin recently.....

onimolap · 09/01/2011 01:33

Both Skyla and Savannah are on the list.

mathanxiety · 09/01/2011 04:47

I actually know a Kassidi and a Rieffe; neither name is on that list but they should be. I think there's a little cultural insensitivity on the list all the same.

CheerfulYank · 09/01/2011 05:03

Redneck is not the same as bogan or chav, actually. I mean, it's the same as in "here's a derogatory term for a group of people that some of them embrace" but the "type" of people ensconced by the term isn't the same.

Ensconced? Is that the word I want there? Oh well. :o

Astrophe · 09/01/2011 06:12

I was in a park today (In Australia) and heard a Dad scream "c'mon Glaydon!". But most Australian children I know have names like Isabel, Jamie, Thomas, Sophie etc.
