I agree with Valium about using a longer name on the birth certificate (obviously one you like). There are a lot of cute little girls names around ATM, and I do wonder how welcome they'll be to a teenager or an adult.

ValiumTinselton · 03/01/2011 20:44

Maelstrom, your dog breeder wasn't a budding writer like the woman at the kennels where my mum bought a Labrador, called "Ayelsbury Dawn Chorus". There was a litter of 7 and they all had fabulous themed names! the litter after that had latin names and the ones I remember were Accipe Hoc (take that) very funny, and Carpe Liam (The owner was called William)

goplayout · 03/01/2011 21:39

Sorry, but I agree with spidookly

It's an adjective meaning fine, pretty, attractive...... makes it a hard name to live up to imho!

Simmylou · 03/01/2011 21:46

I have always had a soft spot for Bonnie. I think it's lovely and you should go for it Smile

Lonnie · 03/01/2011 22:31

I dont like it (Way to close to my own name that I dont like either) but you answered your dilemma in your op " you have fallen in love with it" so what else matters? my ds is called Conrad we gets loads of face pulling and n a few its horrible but i LOVE it.. and it so suits him.. dh feels the same way.. that is all that matters.. not what others think

lagrandissima · 03/01/2011 22:34

I knew a dog called Bonnie.

Rhubarbgarden · 03/01/2011 22:39

I think of the unfortunate child in Gone With the Wind too.

There's one in Pulp Fiction too.

Pingpong · 04/01/2011 10:40

Connie I like (short for Constance) but Bonnie I think is a bit twee.
Definitely think of the Blue Peter dog and then Bonnie Tyler.
I think it is very different to James and Lily and doesn't sit right with those sibling names IMHO. Sorry.

ilovetulips · 04/01/2011 11:51

Nice for a dog, sorry.

smother · 04/01/2011 12:25

I adore the name Bronwyn - could Bonnie be a nn for this?

Komondor · 04/01/2011 12:27

I like the name Bronwen with Bonnie as nn.

Dont like it for first name.

darleneconnor · 04/01/2011 12:29

I like it but wouldn't be brave enough to use it IYKWIM.

Are your other DCs 'bonnie'?

It's be awkward if she didn't live up to the name.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 04/01/2011 12:29

I know a Bonnie, she is about 13 I think.

She is tall and very pretty with long blonde hair - it suits her.

MmeLindt · 04/01/2011 12:31

Not keen on it. I am Scottish and as others have mentioned, it means "pretty" north of the border.

I would go with something typically English, similar to your other DS.

Lily, James and Charlotte.

Anabelle

Catherine

NewYearNewKnickersOnMyHead · 04/01/2011 12:34

Dog's name imo

bamboobutton · 04/01/2011 12:39

my sister is called bonnie. she is 34 and it suits her very well.

and it's not a dogs name, it's a human name people give to their dogs.

allnightlong · 04/01/2011 12:59

I wouldn't no but then I'm scottish I'd be worried aout her turning out to be umm not so bonnie.

ChickensAreFlyingUnderTheRadar · 04/01/2011 13:03

I like it. I went to college with a Bonnie. She was hilarious, so it has good connotations for me :)

cocoachannel · 04/01/2011 13:06

I really like it, but do know two dogs called Bonnie.

Firawla · 04/01/2011 13:44

I know a little baby Bonnie that is so cute so it made me like the name more, I dont think i liked it that much previously but now I can see it working. Also have come across a couple of adult bonnies before like in their 20s and it seemed to work ok for them

Maelstrom · 04/01/2011 16:31

Well Valium, one of her names was Bonnie, but at hearing the next 4 you would think she belonged to royalty.

If I ever become a breeder I would name the puppies with a combination of numbers and letters rather than all that ridiculous combination of names.

frozenfestiveflo · 04/01/2011 16:55

I love it - is it not short for Veronica?

xkatyx · 04/01/2011 17:30

Thank you all for your comments, it wasn't going to be short for anything, i just like the name bonnie.

I like it.

sittinghippo · 04/01/2011 21:46

I LOVE the name Bonnie, and it will be on my shortlist for girls. I do however think it sounds like a nickname so I would probably opt for Ebony and shorten it.
I know you say you wouldn't shorten it and I understand looking for approval from others, if you love a name so much its rather disheartening when others frown when you say it. Shouldn't matter but somehow it does.

Anyway, I think its a gorgeous name. Good luck!
