To Seth Jacob as a name for a boy?

I don't even know if I'm having a boy or girl yet, find out in 3 weeks :D but while I have lots of girls names that I love (a girl will mean it'll be tough choosing my favourite) Seth is the only name I really like at the moment for a boy, but a few family members have turned their noses up as it's an "old man's name". I know it's really early to be thinking of names (17+5 today) but can't help it!

What's your thoughts?

I love the name Seth.

Seth is lovely - classic and underused.

Seth is lovely. There's a Zeth at my baby group which I think is quite a cool twist on an "Old man's name"

Jacob is great. (Biased, much, nooo )

I have a Seth William and I of course love the name!! People always comment on how lovely and unusual it is and I don't think it is necessarily seen as an old man's name any more - it is reasonably popular in the States.

So a big thumbs up from me - and Jacob is lovely too.

Personally I wouldn't tell relatives the names you are considering as invariably you'll get negative comments from some!

Thanks guys - I guess I should stick with my own gut feeling, I love it too and anyone who doesn't will just have to deal with it! Just watch it'll be a pink one now :D

Pixie, Jacob was our first choice but DP's cousin just had a little boy and named him Jacob so we were gazumped on that one!

I think it'd be really hard to pronounce if you had a lisp!

I love Seth but my dh didn't and said it sounded like cess as in pit! Not so keen on jacob and think the combo is a bit too old testament overload.

However, whatever you do, DO NOT discuss names with anyone other than the father of the baby. Certainly do not give any indication of what you are really going to choose!

haha I'd not thought about the lisp thing, could cause a few problems if he turned out to have one! I know it sounds a little religious - and I'm actually not remotely religious or churchy at all - but Jacob is a family name on DP's side and he really wants it as a middle name now we can't have it as a first, the pay-off being that I get final decision on first name

yes cece, definitely gonna keep my mouth shut from now on - about more than just names - as everyone loves to fling their two penn'orth in!

Seth Jacob do go together quite well I think.

To be honest if it is a name you like and have a certain feeling about then to hell with everyone else. I got "advice" from all sorts over what names to choose for my dts but in the end it was the names that felt right and that suited them that stayed.

Maybe baby won't look like a Seth (which rather than old man I think of young American jock!)

The thing to do is to let slip the 'names' you are considering, but make them quite bad. Often shuts people up!

Rachel - had only read the OP. It is an OPINION and I did follow it by stating that it was only an opinion by a random woman on the internet. You'd probably hate my dds' names!

Yes and we are all entitled to our opinions I just don't think I would ever be that vehement in my dislike of a name someone was considering giving their child!! Probably because my sister got wind of a name I was considering for a girl (blabber mouth DH!) and then poo-pooed it!!
