Do they still do the hyphening thing in Germany - Karl-Heinz, Frieder-Otto, Rainer-Werner or Rainer-Maria etc?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 24/12/2010 12:09

Really belgo? Mind you I know a Hans and a Wolfgang who are both English, not related and live in the NW.

belgo · 24/12/2010 12:15

Jilted - I know them in belgium. The names I've suggested on this thread of all of people I know, young and old.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 24/12/2010 12:17

Sorry belgo, didn't mean to doubt you. Just sounded like the beginning of a joke and made me smile.

I know a little Gretchen- which I presume is German and I have a German friend with a little girl called Lieselotte (probably not spelt like that)
Mt DC's grandma is German and she is called Anneliese and her sister is Marianna

anamaria22 · 27/12/2010 15:40

I bet Gretchen and Lieselotte are NOT growing up in Germany...are they?

mathanxiety · 27/12/2010 17:23

Lieselotte is somewhere in the 400s in LittleElf's list so there are a few.

oldandgreynow · 27/12/2010 18:01

Yes Lieselotte is in Germany

anamaria22 · 27/12/2010 20:09

Really, am surprised at that, but maybe Lieselotte is gaining popularity along the granny chic theme. But I would be really surprised if Gretchen was in Germany..?

Janoschi · 27/12/2010 21:51

Lieselotte I've heard in Germany (my DH is German). I love the name, especially the nn Lilo. Filine I've not heard of but it sounds lovely. How is it pronounced - Fill-ee-nuh?

clumsymumsnowdriftbaby · 27/12/2010 22:42

boys:

florian
arlo
fabien

girls:

anamaria22 · 28/12/2010 09:44

It would be Fabian in German, Fabien sounds French.

I love Florian.

Nightstar · 28/12/2010 14:32

I love the name Wolfie (shortened from Wolfgang), how completely cool is it? Very!

sadiesadiemarriedlady · 28/12/2010 14:33

Adelaide

JiltedJohnsJulie · 28/12/2010 14:39

Nightstar there is one in DS school and it does seem to suit him.

Think if you choose a name like that you are going to have to prepare yourself for a few raised eyebrows and the odd Shock look.

mariafrancesca82 · 20/06/2016 16:28

Hi, my nan is German and I'm proud of my German roots so want German names for my kids but names that work in English also.
I named my son Konrad and am pregnant again, if it's a girl I'm having Freyja or Heidi, or another boy I'm thinking Gerard...
There is also Karl, Kurt, Greta, Maria.....
