What do we think...? (I'm ready for the onslaught :))

pinguwings · 28/11/2010 13:23

How's it pronounced?

ShanahansRevenge · 28/11/2010 13:26

Is it said "Rain"?

typsical · 28/11/2010 13:27

Like those beautiful droplets of water that fall from the sky... (I think!)

I've known one personally, and also it was the name of Diana, PoW's step-mother (nicknamed "acid Raine" if the papers are to be believed). Probably not an easy name to live with, though it's not a new name and I suppose not that different from Storm.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 28/11/2010 13:39

I know someone called 'Raine' but it's actually (in her case anyway) short for Lorraine. Didn't know that for a while though! Smile

noddyholder · 28/11/2010 13:42

no Imagine Bianca calling it out in Asda and then think again

typsical · 28/11/2010 13:49

I was thinking of it as a middle name... such as Elizabeth Raine...? DS's middle name is a water-associated nature name!

OP posts:
MacLore · 28/11/2010 14:10

As middle name OK.

YuleBeLucky · 28/11/2010 14:14

I know a Raina.

Raine is OK, but why not just Rain? 'Rain' is a real word.

BarbieLovesKen · 28/11/2010 14:18

No, tis too hippyish for me.

A middle name its ok though, Elizabeth Raine has a lovely ring to it.

typsical · 28/11/2010 14:28

YuleBeLucky As far as I'm aware, the name 'Raine' is spelt with an 'e', and I think it makes it look more feminine...?!

I love it it is so beautiful it was on the shortlist for our youngest but she didnt "feel" like a Raine

toddlerama · 28/11/2010 14:59

Ooh I love it! Especially with a traditional first name. Beautiful combination.

bensonbutnohedges · 28/11/2010 15:37

It will always be associated with Raine Spencer for me.

jabberwocky · 28/11/2010 15:42

Elizabeth Raine sounds lovely.

Mobly · 28/11/2010 15:43

I love it, but then I'm biased. It is what some people call me for short, only spelt Rayn in my case. I like the sound and prefer it to my full name.

Janoschi · 28/11/2010 16:27

I had a very dear friend called Patricia Raine... she was born in the late 30s. Always loved the name.

onimolap · 28/11/2010 16:48

I think the name is connected to reine/regina, and thus the meaning is queenliness, not the weather.

johnnycomelurky · 28/11/2010 16:55

I have a niece called Rayne - wasn't keen at first but really like it now 6 years on. I like the Raine spelling better though.

MelinaM · 28/11/2010 17:03

Personally I love this name, especially combined with Autumn: Autumn Raine ..but we'll not go there just yet!Grin
Love River, summer etc too! x

LisMcA · 28/11/2010 18:23

Really like it, would be on my list but DH not keen on what he calls "quirky" names.

SoupDragon · 28/11/2010 18:38

No. It's a really wet name. [arf] It was also my maiden name so to me it's a surname.

typsical · 28/11/2010 20:41

Melina I love it with Autumn! Only thing that puts me off Autumn as a first name is I can't think of a nice nn...?

And my DS's middle name is River :)

SoupDragon · 28/11/2010 20:58

Dear god, you can't call a child Autumn Raine. it's not you who has to live with it.

noddyholder · 28/11/2010 21:09

Thankyou soupy I thought I was a lone voice!
