Serena - Yes or No???

It is my nieces name. I like it. Quite grown up sounding I think. Would never have thought of it myself.

I like other names better, but I wouldn't blanche at it. It sounds nice, nice associations.

Is this coincidence or what? I just chose your pronunciation of my grandmother's name Andelescia.

And believe it or not, I have a book coming out with a character named "Salena". Small world, I wish it could be more so, at other times too, but it is not. [sigh]

Thanks for your honest opinions ladies. The two names that we originally short listed were Annabel and Felicity. I really like more older traditional names. However, just came across the meaning of the name Seren - (Welsh for Star) and thought it had a lovely personal association for me and my family. My DH proposed to me in Wales 2 years ago and it was the last holiday we went on whilst I was pregnant- don't want to sound corny though

I like it too. Makes me smile to think of a screaming toddler being called Serena, but that won't last long, and it is a lovely womanly name.

Seren is beautiful, as is Serena -- I prefer them to Annabel and also Felicity.

I really like Seren but not so keen on Serena.

I prefer Seren too. Serena just makes me think tennis player.

Serena is a beautiful name; it reminds me of serenity.

I have a Serena! We call her sunny or reenie. Loads of other nicknames you could choose. Think it's a name that could come from any background. Obviously I love it!

Thanks ladies. Just to clarify, how would you pronounce it. I know Serena Williams is (Se-reen-a) but I prefer (Se-re-nah). Is this too starnge. Also, I do actually prefer Seren but my little boy is called Ben and I think it would rhyme too much. I would probably call her Seren on a day to day basis (even though I do know they are two different names with two different meanings)
