Percy, Cuthbert or Coriolanus?

DH and I can't decide. We are thinking of Coriolanus Percy.

Don't want a name that there are loads of in the same school/nursery. Would prefer to be the only one. Needs to be reasonably traditional/not made up (DH's criteria).

Oh that's made me giggle! Just picturing you in the playground "come on Coriolanus, time to go home!"

controlfreakery · 31/10/2010 00:08

these are all lovely "unusual" names....

peregrine
merlin
cholmondley
pepin
valentine
nero
ceaser
nelson
gawain
lancelot
leopold
ogden

or maybe....

asterix
tintin
cilit-bang?

do you WANT your child to be bullied and all your friends to snigger behind your back? do you? sheesh.

pumpkinpoppet · 31/10/2010 00:12

But seriously, now we're ditching Coriolanus and replacing Percy with Percival, what is the better combo

Percival Horace
Percival Titus

Am struggling as I now love Humphrey and Peregrine.

Will Peregrine be shortened to Perry? (Kevon and Perry Go Large)...

Percival Humphrey. This has been soo useful. DH and I have a whole new list to ponder..

Thanks all

I vote for Cillit-Bang. Cillit-Bang Percy.

Please don't do this to your child.

LoopyLoupGarou · 31/10/2010 00:14

Sorry, but Percival makes me think of perverts and disease, not sure why.

controlfreakery · 31/10/2010 00:15

oh definitely titus as a first name.... so his friends can call him tits as a nn.

Clary · 31/10/2010 00:15

tbh if his first name is Percival it doens't matter what his middle name is.

Make it James. Or Thomas.

Seriously, OP, are you serious? We all need to know.

Geoffrey?
Oooh I like Marmaduke
Horatio?

pumpkinpoppet · 31/10/2010 00:19

The thing is - are't all the old fashioned names coming back? You might think they are odd now, but won't our children take them as normal? Like Enid, Reginald and Pearl and all those??

OP posts:
Clary · 31/10/2010 00:22

I hear you but I actually don't know anyone called Enid.

Names like George and Arthur and Frederick and Edward and Stanley were actually very popular about 100 yrs ago (look on the WWI memorials). So although they have been rare for years, they are coming back, not coming from nowhere.

But I don't think Horace and Titus and Peregrine and Humphrey were ever big hits.

pumpkinpoppet · 31/10/2010 00:23

Do you think Marmaduke is a bit made up? I can only think of cartoon characters with it. Can I get away with Horatio? thought Horace was more sensible??

Algernon is great. Thanks. Feels like a mouthful with Perseus and Percival though. Algernon Horace Titus has a ring? Dh thinks he will be Algy (is that a pond thing?)

Everyone here is so creative. Much better ideas than ours.

So this is a joke then.

Ha ha.

I have another for you: Cecil Hector Thaddeus.

BelligerentGhoul · 31/10/2010 00:33

Love Horace.

pumpkinpoppet · 31/10/2010 00:33

A touch pretentious?

OP posts:
BelligerentGhoul · 31/10/2010 00:34

Love Hector and Thaddeus too.

In fact, my dad still laughs about the fact that as a teenager, I said my son would be called Thaddeus.

I have two dds but still love Thaddeus!

Mumcentreplus · 31/10/2010 00:36

Sorry but all 3 in the title made me LOL

Tortington · 31/10/2010 02:03

notagrannyyet · 31/10/2010 07:18

All 3 are awful.

My great uncle used to say 'I'm off to point Percy at the porcelain', when he was going for a wee.

If this is for real please don't do it!

MadAboutQuavers · 31/10/2010 07:30

This thread is hilarious Grin

Just call him Caesar, then he can be known as a small can of dog food for small, yappy-type dogs

AlpinePony · 31/10/2010 07:31

Hideous. As one poster mentioned, your child will have a "kick me" sign pinned to his metaphorical back and will spend his secondary school years getting bog-washed.
