Abraham or Solomon

Which do you prefer?
These are dh's top names for a boy at the moment, I like them both, one better than the other. He hates my favourites, so at the moment these are our only options.

Other ds have OT names (AMos and Eli), dd's do not have OT names.

i really like Abraham actually.
like solomon, but not as much, tho i do know a couple of little solomons

BeccaandEvie · 30/10/2010 09:18

I prefer Solomon to Abraham, but both have cute nn's Sol and Abe.

4andnotout · 30/10/2010 09:20

I like Solomon, it was on our boys list.

GivesHeadlessHorseman · 30/10/2010 09:21

Love Solomon, really don't like Abraham, plus its too similar to Amos.

LetThereBeRock · 30/10/2010 10:49

I love Solomon.I hate Abraham.

NeverGhoul · 30/10/2010 11:03

I have a Sol, but call him Solly or Solomon. It's a lovely name.
I had a gerbil called Abraham though.

Tortington · 30/10/2010 11:04

i like both. very strong names

onimolap · 30/10/2010 11:11

I like both, and there's one of each at DC's school.

suspiria · 30/10/2010 12:45

I love both. Both have been on my shortlists for each of our children.

MrsRhettKilledTheButler · 30/10/2010 12:47

we have an abraham in our family and he has always hated it. at school they used to call him hammy!

i know a solomon and he loves his name (as do i) and gets called solly

coldcomfortHeart · 30/10/2010 13:02

I have a Solomon so am biased. Good nicknames plus nice full name I think. always had good reactions to it as well, and haven't met another one yet.

expatinscotland · 30/10/2010 13:30

Solomon. There was a Solomon in my high school and he had the most beautiful blue eyes I've ever seen.

rachel1970 · 30/10/2010 14:43

I really like both, but prefer Abraham. Lovely, solid name.

rachel1970 · 30/10/2010 14:44

Abraham also works better in other languages.

sophiesmummie · 30/10/2010 15:12

Both are nice, but I think Abraham has the edge. Does one go better with your surname?

littleElif · 30/10/2010 20:55

Solomon!

Mitchymum · 30/10/2010 21:03

Moses, Reuben, Malachy, are all nice, but unusual biblical names.

poppydaisy · 30/10/2010 21:55

I like Abraham and Moses.

Horton · 30/10/2010 22:08

Solomon is a fantastic name. Was on my shortlist but I had a girl! Amos and Eli are also great, btw. What a lovely set of names.

tummytickler · 30/10/2010 23:47

Mitchymum - I love Moses, but cannot use it as it is too similar to Amos.
Cannot use Reuben - maternal grandfathers name - he died in WW2 - grandmothers 'new' (of over 50 years!) husband would be pretty upset!
Not keen on Malachy.
Thanks though!

Solomon.

Or Daniel - that's a great name. Also Jonah.

Mitchymum · 30/10/2010 23:53

Jonah is lovely, as is Josiah. And not forgetting Jacob.

tummytickler · 30/10/2010 23:59

dh has a 'Jo' name, so they are out (too confusing!)
Jacob is just too popular, and i have an irrational dislike for Daniel (I am being awkward now Grin).
Shame, as I love Josiah, but far to similar to dh's name.

Phineas? (there is a nice one as well as the better known nasty one)

Mitchymum · 31/10/2010 00:03

Just been reminded of Mordecahi, which is great too.

Are you definitely keen on a biblical name?

How about Adam, Caleb, Gideon, Saul or Seth?
