Really this is because after 3 children together we just got married at the weekend and we are expecting he 4th in April. My maiden name was Ferguson so it's a small way of nearly keeping it alive!!
Slightly worried though that everyone will view child as very middle class with ruddy cheeks and orange hair!! What do you think?
I like Finn too but think that is now quite popular.
We have 3 girls so far so quite likely to be another girl but this thread is just incase!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I like Fergus. Although I did used to work with one and everyone referred to him as Fungus. Behind his back.

GeorgeOsborne · 27/10/2010 20:58

What about Ferguson as a middle name?

Fergus, middle class, meh, not partic

ZZZenAgain · 27/10/2010 21:00

wouldn't say Fergus was particularly middle class. These things change all the time anyway

brittan76 · 27/10/2010 21:14

Not particularly MC. I do think Fungus too!

I like Finn and how about Angus?

GeorgeOsborne · 27/10/2010 21:32

oh and congrats on wedding and dc4!

pranma · 27/10/2010 22:02

No Finn in top 100 for 2009 so not common [I love it]
I love Fergus too and Gus is a brilliant nn

valiumskeleton · 27/10/2010 22:44

I like it. I like Fergus and Gus, and maybe even Fergie. Not sure about the middle class question. I really like boys' Scottish names.

freerangeeggs · 28/10/2010 01:07

I really like Fergus. I teach two now that I live in England (a middle class area, too) but never met one in the 25 years I lived in Scotland!

Gus is a great nickname.

Mitchymum · 28/10/2010 21:37

I love Fergus.

I had wanted to call DS Finn, but my hubby spoiled the name for me by saying he would be bullied if he was fat.

Meglet · 28/10/2010 21:37

I like Fergus.

NigellaTufnel · 28/10/2010 21:41

What#s wrong with ruddy cheeks and red hair? [hsmile]

activate · 28/10/2010 21:42

it's not mc it's irish

pippibluestocking · 28/10/2010 21:45

What's wrong with MC!

moondog · 28/10/2010 21:45

No, it's just hideous whatever your 'class'.
Sounds like 'fungus'.

NigellaTufnel · 29/10/2010 15:24

It is cool, easy to spell, a bit unusual but not unheard of, and I used to fancy the pants of someone called Fergus. He was adorable

mathanxiety · 30/10/2010 05:27

I think of it as Irish, so a lot of ruddy cheeks and even some red hair, based on the Ferguses I knew.

Ferguson not bad either as a first name.

5DollarShake · 30/10/2010 07:25

Not particularly MC to me.

seeker · 30/10/2010 07:55

What's wrong with middle class?

AlpinePony · 30/10/2010 08:08

If you're worried about sounding "too mc" Hmm, stick with the names listed in the "chav names thread".

Ghoulysses · 30/10/2010 08:31

I suppose you could ask yourself if it would go with your 3 other names - it is very celtic so if you've went for Italian sounding girls names (or chavvy if that's your bag) then it's not a great match.

I personally think it's great, two of my friends have called their boy this and my driving instruction was also called Fergus. He definitely wasn't middle class.

seeker · 30/10/2010 10:15

You could always spell it Phergas. Or P'fergus. Or Ferdy-Gus. Or Phergaux. Or Fergis.....

Tillyscoutsmum · 30/10/2010 10:25

Definitely not middle class imo. DS is a Fergus (and my mother did point out the "Fungus" thing after we'd named him Hmm I just told her that her name rhymed with poo and it had never really been an issue for her Hmm)

3WiseMumsies · 30/10/2010 10:31

What's wrong with being middle class? I'm not working class and I'm certainly not upper class so by default I am in the middle classes(as are lots and lots of other MNers). What is wrong with us? Confused

Prefer Finn to Fergus BTW.
