What kind of girls are called Georgia? is it a bit 90's/had its time? Does it sound a bit posh? What's the general feel? It was number 55 in 2009 and has gone down the ranking a lot in the past 10 years, is it classic enough to still be pretty?

I like it - really pretty and reminds me of an old style singer or movie star

mutable · 27/10/2010 14:08

"...on my mind"

Rannaldini · 27/10/2010 14:12

not posh at all I'm afraid

poppyknot · 27/10/2010 14:15

Southern belles.

MollysChambers · 27/10/2010 14:17

Think of my friends DD who is lovely!

LaRagazzaInglese · 27/10/2010 15:33

Rannaldini - on a scale of 1-10 1 being chavvy 10 being posh where would you put it? or is it one of those names that just suits the person?

I start singing, 'Midnight train to Georgia' in my head.

BlackeyedZombiedog · 27/10/2010 15:37

'Rainy night in...'

I like it and think it's classy.

CatBumMouth · 27/10/2010 16:39

Lovely name, I think of it as a classic and considered it but there are 2 owned by colleagues-turns out they are both 'Jorja's. Have different opinions of that.

jonicomelately · 27/10/2010 16:40

I think of Miss Darcy although she was Georgiana or something.

I like it.

LoubyLoubyLouLa · 27/10/2010 17:39

Im afraid it's pretty chavvy to me, but only because of the people I know who have called their child it Blush

If you want posh, I think georgianna is better (if that's how you spell it).

GreenStinkingStumpSleeves · 27/10/2010 17:40

I like it but I prefer Georgina

shortened to Georgie

BelligerentGhoul · 27/10/2010 17:42

I like Georgiana much better.

Georgia deffo not posh.

georgia makes me think of -
Georgia on my mind / midnight train
DD's friend who got green face paint all over my lovely white towel.

BookcaseFullofBooks · 27/10/2010 17:43

I was going to call my DD Georgia. I find it quite a confident, self-assures name.

weepootle · 27/10/2010 17:50

I think of it as a bit chavvy as well for some reason, not sure why. Don't really like the name.

CheerfulYank · 27/10/2010 17:58

Here (in the US) it's not chavvy. I love it, personally, and also like Georgiana. (I hear Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy saying it every time. :))

gomummygo · 27/10/2010 18:22

Not at all chavvy where I am either. Really like it actually.

DuelingFanjo · 27/10/2010 18:23

makes me think jolly hockey sticks.

neuronsattheready · 27/10/2010 18:23

Sounds a bit chavvy to me too

MadBanners · 27/10/2010 18:25

Well, I think of my Dd.

Although, she actually gets Georgie! Hmm

But that is because Ds, called her Dordee, when he first started saying her name (he was 16 months when she was born) and that slowly morphed into Georgie, so now she IS a Georgie and not a Georgia..

Actually feels wrong to call her Georgia now.

Rhubarbgarden · 27/10/2010 18:43

I think of a particularly unpleasant shade of orange. But that's because I have synaesthesia. There are many perfectly good names I dislike because they are a horrible colour.

jicky · 27/10/2010 18:54

Ds1 would have been Georgia if he was a girl (99). I really liked it (watched too much Ally McBeal) but best friend who is a teacher said it was the name the 15 year olds all gave their daughters. Had gone off it by the time ds3 arrived, think it had started sounding chavy but not sure why!

GingerCursedEeeee · 27/10/2010 18:58

Not chavvy or common, I find it strange that people think of it thus, but I guess it's down to the Georgias they have met!

I think it is a beautiful, classic name.

Grin Rhubarbgarden sorry that must be a tricky thing to suffer with (is suffer the right word or can it be good?) but you did make me smile!

IHeartKingThistle · 27/10/2010 19:00

There are lots of Georgias at secondary school age now. I think it's one of those names that started posh and then 'filtered through' the class system iyswim; most of the ones I know definitely aren't posh. (the 'filtering' thing is from Freakonomics or something I think, not mine before anyone thinks i'm classist!)

Have taught some lovely ones and some not so lovely ones. Despite of that I still like it, it feels nice rolling off the tongue!

IHeartKingThistle · 27/10/2010 19:01

'despite of'??? Blush
