What kind of girls are called Georgia? is it a bit 90's/had its time? Does it sound a bit posh? What's the general feel? It was number 55 in 2009 and has gone down the ranking a lot in the past 10 years, is it classic enough to still be pretty?

Always considered it a posh name, I went to school with an uber posh Georgia. A classic.

But agree it has grown in popularity. Rather like Amelia etc, if you have the accent and err 'class' Hmm to carry it off then there is no reason to worry about it sounding 'chavvy'.

Not keen at all on Georgia, much prefer Georgina (I am rather fond of Gina for a nn)

Hmmm, I really don't like Georgina. Reminds me of the grandma in the great glass elevator. Also, I went to school with a really sullen Georgina.

To me it lacks life - sounds a bit dirge-like. Gina on its own is lovely, although I wouldn't choose it.

I used to rather like it, I suggested it for dd1 but dh said no.

Sadly dd1 is now friends with a Georgia who periodically makes her life a misery so now I've gone off it a bit.

I have never thought that it had any unfortunate connotations, other the above.

Georgia is a lovely name! I named my daughter Georgia Isabella. shes 6 wks old and everyone says how pretty it is! :) Its definetly Not chavvy! Those who think it is must hav only met 'chavvy' Georgia's lol! I consider it an old classic english name, as it was derived from georgian times. It is taken from Georgianna which was the duchess's name.(pronounced jor-jane-a) She was an inspiration in her day and a role model to other women in georgian times (watch the film 'the duchess' with Keira Knightly, its brill!) I love it because its not popular where i live which is gr8 as i like to be different :) My son is Charlie and together they sound like lovely, classy english names :) xx

Emelene · 16/03/2011 19:39

Personally I prefer Georgina and NN Georgie, but I think Georgia's quite pretty. :)

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 16/03/2011 19:40

Georgia is far nicer than Georgina, Gina is nicer than both!
