Here are some boy names I like. DP doesn't. Suggest more please!

I have a fair few names that I quite like, but DP rejected most of them for DS, so I don't particularly see him going for them if DC2 turns out to be a boy.

I do like long names with a shortening available (DS has a longer name and is generally known by the shortened version), but I'm not totally and utterly set on that. I'm not hugely adventurous, but I'd like to be vaguely interesting (I'm not going to weep if there are 3 others in the class with the same name - DS's name is somewhere around 70-80 on the top 100 boys names for last year)

Anyway, names I like:

Nathanial
Sebastian
Cameron (really really like this, but taken by a close relative)
Alexander (again, really like this, used by v close friend)
Samuel
Mac (If I could think of a good long name to shorten to Mac, I'd totally be going for this, but DP thinks it's silly)

What about Max (can be short form of Maximillian (sp?)).

Or Theo/Theodore

Or Felix? (no short version)

chaya5738 · 08/10/2010 14:09

Or Ben/Benjamin
Or Jake/Jacob

Tippychoocks · 08/10/2010 14:11

Macauley {sp?) for Mac?
Callum sounds a bit like Cameron but is a bit dtd round here, ditto Connor
Tristam or Tristram?

AuraofDora · 08/10/2010 14:14

theo is nice
mckenzie
charlie
freddie

i like samuel, sam is lovely, sebastian but not seb

your names have a romantic air

JustDoMyLippyThenWeWillGo · 08/10/2010 14:14

I like Nathaniel, and Nat for short.

Knew a boy called McKinley: sounds better than looks on paper; could be Mac for short. Tho actually quite like Mac/Mack

Lancelottie · 08/10/2010 14:18

Christopher, Daniel, Nicholas, Robert/Robin?

Or just go for Alex if you love it so much, and tell your friend, sorry, I have to pinch your DS's name because it's perfect... bet she won't object.

Hopefully · 08/10/2010 17:09

Would feel too awful stealing friend's baby name. Also, it's now so 'his' name in my head that it would feel weird.

DS's name has actually been mentioned now, so you're obviously all along the right lines!

I was thinking something like McKinley could be nice, but think DP would call me a crazy hormonal loon (which I am absolutely not, of course Grin)

Jonathan? Frederick? Christopher? Matthew? Fabian? Joshua? Harold?

thumbwitch · 08/10/2010 17:27

Mackenzie is nice.
Christopher (Chris, Kit or even Titfer - yes, I knew one)
Philip
Jonathan
Archie
Alastair
Peregrine (nn Perry or Pip)
Sylvester
Theobald/Theodore (bit over used atm though)

escorchio · 08/10/2010 17:31

Another vote for Mackenzie. We have one near us, and he is known as Mac or Mackie, which really suit him - a particularly cute 2yo.

minipie · 08/10/2010 17:32

Dominic
Theodore
Frederick
Tobias
Gabriel
Benedict

Mac could be short for Maximilian (in the same way that Alec can be short for Alexander)

Cormac?

hildathebuilder · 08/10/2010 17:33

Our shortlist for DS had most of your names on....

the others on our list all of which could be shortened if you wanted were

Benedict (Ben)
Philip (Phil)
Raphael (Rafe - we quickly discounted that one)
Christopher or Christian (Chris)
Peter (Pete)
Theodore (Theo)
Julian (Jude)
Geoffrey (DH liked this I really really didn't)

Hopefully · 08/10/2010 18:07

Oooh, I'd forgotten Alastair, thanks Thumbwitch! I seem to recall DP not being too appalled by that one last time (same name as a relative, but a distant one. Also suitably scottish to appease the celtic side).

I like Matthew, but apparently it's 'boring'

Hadn't thought of Mackenzie, will add that to the suggestions list.

Love Benedict, DP hates it (are you sensing a theme?)

Also love love Peregrine. Will definitely add that to the suggestions list. Can imagine DP's reaction, but am adding it anyway. Is it poncey? Never really heard it before.

Ooh, and dominic, that's quite nice too.

Keep the suggestions coming - You're all doing perfectly!

Laurence (Laurie)?

PaigeTurner · 08/10/2010 18:33

Ferdinand (Ferdie)?

preghead · 08/10/2010 18:34

We have a Mack who is just Mack which I love (and I notice Lauren Laverne has now nicked! Grin). Also known as Mackie, really suits him. He was originally going to be Mackensie but last minute panic that it was too girly and, around here, a bit c word that we are not allowed to mention on name threads. A relative had a baby shortly afterwards and called him Cormac, known as Mac, which I did think for awhile was better but, TBH, most people seem to think putting the K on makes it more of a name rather than a nickname. Apart from the older generation it gets pretty much positive responses all round (only negative is people often hear it as Max or think he is called Max but no big deal).

Easywriter · 08/10/2010 18:37

Ted/Theodore

Art/Artemis

Nick/Nicholas

Raffy/Raphael

another vote for Mackenzie from me?

Leo/Leonardo (Leonard)

mamaloco · 08/10/2010 18:40

Peregrine that's one of the hobbit isn't it?

washngo · 08/10/2010 18:46

Artemis is a classical goddess so wouldn't go for that one as is more of a girls name. I know an art whose full name is Aristotle!!!

mamaloco · 08/10/2010 18:47

Artemis: that is definitely a girl.

kimbles1984 · 08/10/2010 18:49

I have a Macauley who goes by Mac.

I like:
Theodore/Teddy
Alexander ( Macs middle name Grin
Benjamin
Jeremy
Zachary

thirtysomething · 08/10/2010 18:54

Most of my names on DS' list already covered here. other ideas:

Edward/Ted
Jackson/Jack
Montgomery/Monty
Zachary/Zach
Arthur/Art/Artie
Reuben
Xavier
Lewis

Would say depends where you live for Mackenzie - in the Midlands it's seen as quite downmarket....!!

Have heard a few Hugos recently though...

Bue · 08/10/2010 19:21

Malcolm is often shortened to Mac.

meadowlarks · 08/10/2010 19:44

I can't believe no one's said Leo yet.

Some others:
Hugo/Hugh
Duncan
Wilfred nn Wilf
Isaac
Elias
Alfred nn Alf/Alfie
Gilbert nn Gil/Gilly
