They are both great names. I think Elliot has the edge for me, but only because I'm not so keen some of the NNs for Edward. Don't like Ed and Eddie at all, but Ted and Teddy are good if possibly a little cute for an older child.

Edward. Elliot's that kid in ET.

lola0109 · 08/10/2010 13:39

I think edward is going to be very popular, what about edwin?

Prefer edward over elliot though?

tammytoby · 08/10/2010 13:43

I'm not keen on either to be honest - mainly because I don't like the nicknames (Ed/Eddie and El/Ellie).

If I had to choose I'd say Elliot, because I find it more interesting and less common than Edward.

3plusbump · 08/10/2010 13:46

Can't you use 'Woody' as a nn for Edward?

I'd go for Edward, I think :)

escapologist · 08/10/2010 13:47

I love the name Elliot. I'd have considered it for DS2 if it didn't sound so awful with our surname.

batsforlashes · 08/10/2010 14:35

Don't have a problem with the boy from ET- think he was very cute ;-). I am in the Elliot camp but my Dh has a preference for Edward due to the fact that he has a whole load of nn's to choose from - most of which are putting me off the name.

Edward. Elliot is horrid.

AuraofDora · 08/10/2010 14:54

edgar or igor
cute

HighlandlassinLondonshire · 08/10/2010 14:57

Edward...!

Romilly70 · 08/10/2010 14:59

they are both nice!
However no nickname i can think of for elliot - (apart from ellie Hmm not ideal for a boy)

FranSanDisco · 08/10/2010 14:59

Elliot.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 08/10/2010 15:03

No definitely Edward. Ted is a lovely name and suits child and adult and I know that for sure!

shandydrinker · 08/10/2010 15:06

Edward definately. Elliot's was a bar where I grew up!

welshandproud · 08/10/2010 15:29

Edward for sure, Eddie is very cute for a little boy or Ed when he's fully grown, sounds manly to me!

sparkle1977 · 08/10/2010 15:36

Another vote for Elliot here. I would have used it for DS2 had it not been for our surname.

flopsy1974 · 08/10/2010 15:37

Definately Edward.

Raahh · 08/10/2010 16:36

Elliot- is ds's name.
Doesn't really need a nn, but he gets El if anything, and he is far from girly!

I do, however, also like EdwardSmile

Ragwort · 08/10/2010 16:37

Edward, definately.

pranma · 08/10/2010 16:53

We have a baby Edward[occasionally Ted] who is absolutely gorgeous :)

usualsuspect · 08/10/2010 16:54

Elliot for me ..although Edward is more MN

proudfoot · 08/10/2010 23:55

I really love both - very difficult decision! Either one would be a lovely choice.

Would maybe go for Elliot as it is less popular... but then again I LOVE the nickname Teddy for a baby... so I don't know!

Rockbird · 09/10/2010 00:00

Both gorgeous. DD was going to be Edward (Ned).

emmyloo2 · 09/10/2010 18:14

Edward!! It's our current top choice. But Elliott also nice. I love Ted and Teddy as nns though.
