Does no-one out there like Beauden or Arizona?

Hi there,

Well, our little one is due anytime now and we have got nowhere with sorting out names yet, despite everyone on mumsnet being great.

We have decided to probably stick with Beauden, which everyone slated us for before. I know about the Boden association but there are other baby threads which really like the name. Does anyone like Beauden or am I completely mad?

The other names we have talked about are:

Arizona
Sterling
Ronan
Winter (couldn't have this for a first name).

Really like Arizona as it is a special place to us (we live in UK).

Just needing some help - I did listen to everyone and told myself we couldn't use the name Beauden but me and dh still keep coming back to it. Please help...

I like Arizona as a name. And Autumn. I think they are not popular nor ludicrous. The Beuaden one is bad though.

My Aunt is a nanny in America and one of her charges was called Bodi and she said it was not uncommon there. She is Sparrow Richie's nanny now...now that's a daft name.

melikalikimaka · 01/10/2010 08:41

Beauden, Boden, Bodan, Bohden, let's call the whole thing off! Either, either, etc. It's a song! No like it, are you American?

MamaLazarou · 01/10/2010 09:57

Even without the Boden connection, Beauden is awful, sorry.

LisMcA · 01/10/2010 11:12

ArizonaGirl Can I buck the trend here and say I quite like Beauden :o

From reading the thread your other DC's have "unusual" (in the nicest sense of the word) names.

If you called this one something like Jack or Bob it would stand out more in your family unit.

If you love a name go for it.

Can I also add beofre i joined MN I had never heard of Boden either!!

Good Luck!

I like Beau but not Beauden and if you go with Beauden it will just get shortened to Beau anyway so I doubt he will get teased-although DP vetoed Beau and every other boys name I have suggested as they are all "bully me" names apparently Grin.

Have you considered Baden? although "surnamey" at least it is a name (with good boyish scouting connotations!).

Your other names are OK, and I do like Autumn.

People are incredibly harsh on this board but as an act of self preservation I try to think that it has a Pantomime aspect. My sons name received some really harsh comments and as of yet he has never been teased and lots of people have told me they love it in RL.

I do think after the reaction on here I must have bee perceived as a stupid pretentious little tosspot by others in RL, but never to my face! It has made me think more about naming DC2 as is that really fair on them? to have people thinking they are the child of wankers?! I still adore Ds's name though and don't think its absurd or ridiculous and you obviously feel that way about Beauden

Pasiphae · 01/10/2010 11:33

Arizona and Winter are too girly fpr me.

Beauden is a bit naf (between the shop, the -Den suffix and calling a boy "pretty").

Ronan is Ok, but I just think of it as cheesy Celtic.

Sterling is not bad!

I quite like the Cypress idea, but the ending makes it a bit girly too.
Cyprien, Cyril, Cyrillus (it's also a clothes brand, but not available in the UK/US btw)?

Sage, Oklay, Vianney, Basil, Bohdi, Orion, Oberon, Boyd?

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/10/2010 11:37

OOH can I join in with Seeker - if you are thinking of middle aged, vaguely frumpy overpriced clothing purveyors as a baby name inspiration, you can also consider:

Phase (as in 8)
Cos
Hobbs
Joules
Dash
Coast
Wallis
White (as in Company or Stuff)
Monsoon

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/10/2010 11:39

Names of children after American states are really naff, imo.

Dakota
Montana
Arizona
Vermont

Why not use an american state that actually IS a girl's name? Virginia, Carolina?

DinahRod · 01/10/2010 11:54

Gilbert, Scottsdale are in Arizona

Did I read you already have a Autumn and an Ocean?

How about:
Redd
Rowan
Moss (to go with Stirling)

If you didn't already have an Autumn, then Lief

rachel234 · 01/10/2010 12:14

How about just Beau?

coraltoes · 01/10/2010 14:08

Hows about spelling it Stirling, like Stirling Moss....

Autumn is a beautiful name, but I wouldn't then have a Winter. If you're after nature associated names maybe Blossom? Briar? Bud?

mathanxiety · 01/10/2010 16:05

Dara or Daragh? (oak tree reference in Irish)

Rockbird · 01/10/2010 16:09

You do know that as soon as your children hit 18, they're going to change their names to Oliver and Charlotte, don't you? Wink

pigindisguise · 01/10/2010 16:28

Beauden, sorry but no please don't

I like Arizona but would save it for a girl
I do like Winter for a boy though.
Nothing wrong with Ronan but I like unusual names so would go for Winter

DaisyDaresYOU · 01/10/2010 16:56

What a about Bean,Amazon,Detroit

lola0109 · 01/10/2010 23:16

I saw this post last night and forgot to comment.

I actually quite like the sound beauden, but think the spelling makes it look feminine. I don't know why!! I know of someone who named their son Seth Boden. I Like that spelling better and the shop connection wouldn't bother me.

If you like a name just go for it!

arizonagirl · 01/10/2010 23:24

Thanks lola0109 - nice that you posted. Think the damage has been done and there won't be a new Beauden. Back to the drawing board.

Arizona? As in Raising Arizona?

Lunacy.

seeker · 02/10/2010 07:25

Rockbird - my step nephew and nieces did that at 11.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 02/10/2010 12:35

I like Sterling from your list. But I knew someone with the name - so it's a real name to me.

I think the others would be hard to pull off - and it doesn't matter how it's spelled, if you go for Beauden, your child will still sound like an online clothing retailer - even though Boden is just a surname like Harrison or Jackson - and many other surnams used as first names - there's too much of an assocation with the clothing line.

Janoschi · 02/10/2010 23:17

I'm going to stick up for you here! You choose whatever name you like. You'll be the one shouting it 24/7 so it's important you like it.

Beauden isn't completely my cup of tea, but then again my name's had a lot of slating too over the years and kids do grow into whatever you give them. He could always opt for Bo.

Arizona.... possibly girly but again, your choice. The place has a special meaning for you and that's a good reason to use it as a name. Don't understand why someone suggested Indiana instead - totally different place altogether.

You go for it, guys.
