A Sibling for Albert, Christopher, Susanna and Tessa...

Me and DH are out of ideas for DC5 after naming the first 4!

We don't know the sex and don't intend on finding out so need a boy's name and a girl's name.

Our DC are called:
Albert(Albie)
Christopher (Chris)
Susanna (Sookie)
Tessa(Tess)

For middle names we would want to use Raymond William for a boy and Meryl Katherine for a girl which are family names.

Can anyone give us any inspiration at all? Please?

Thanks in advance

(BTW am a namechanger but give out too much information in this post to keep my normal name!)

Sophie and James?

yellowflowers · 30/09/2010 18:49

William? That's a nice solid traditional name like Christopher and Susanna

Stanley - reminds me of Albert.

Polly?

BettyAlmighty · 30/09/2010 18:58

Thanks for replying!

Countess, I like James a lot but hate hate hate the nn Jamie, do you think I could push for the nn Jim?

I'm not too keen on Sophie because I prefer names with nicknames

yellow, William is our middle name but I don't want to use it as a first name because it is DH's brother's name, my uncle's and my cousin's name so we already have a few in the family!

Stanley I like a lot!

Polly has got a similar feel but I think I would only want it as a nn, what do you think it could be a nn for?

Keep those suggestions coming!

Polly is (weirdly) a nickname for Mary. Formerly, Mary's would be nicknamed Molly, which was adapted to Polly. Polly is also a nickname for Pauline and its variants.

(Similarly, Margaret was nicknamed Meg/Meggie, which was adapted to Peg/Peggy)

BettyAlmighty · 30/09/2010 19:06

Oooh I like the idea of Mary with nn Polly because Mary is Mil's name so I could please her without actually having to call a DD Mary everyday!

I know an 8yr old and an adult James with nn Jim. I think it is lovely.

Elizabeth
Juliet/Julianna

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 30/09/2010 19:18

You can have Jem as a nickname for James as well, which I think is lovely.

Wilfred (Wilf/Freddie)

Alexander (Alex)

Harold (Hal/Harry/Hank)

Daniel (Dan)

Elizabeth (Beth/Eliza/Lizzy)

Jennifer (Jenny)

Margot (possibly Peggy/Meg)

Alicia/Alice

Any of those nice? I'm getting a real Lion Witch and Wardrobe feel from your current names and keep wanting to suggest "Aslan" :)

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 30/09/2010 19:20

Tobias (Toby)

Elijah (Eli)

Robert (Rob/Robbie/Bob/Bobby)

Catherine (Kitty/Kate)

Juliet

Emily (Emmie)

Onestonetogo · 30/09/2010 19:40

Pandora, Cosetta

Lawrence, Tobias, Martin.

Northernlurker · 30/09/2010 19:44

Elizabeth shortened to Betsy, Betty or Nell

You could shorten Helena to Nell as well?

meadowlarks · 30/09/2010 19:52

Boys:
Arthur
Sidney (Sid)
Stanley
George
Thomas
Edward/Edwin
Jack

Girls:
Florence
Rose
Nell
Julia
Rebecca
Jessica

CountessVonKnackerstein · 30/09/2010 19:54

Soph or Fee as a nn?
Jamesie as a nn? (Or Jimmy obv.)

5inthebed · 30/09/2010 20:03

Annabel came to for a girl, NN Belle

Not sure on boys name as I thought George, but is there a NN for that?

BettyAlmighty · 30/09/2010 20:13

Ooh, thanks I love lots of those suggestions!

Especially:

Juliet (could I shorten to Julie/Jules?)
Margot (love the nn Peggy!)
Helena (also love Nell!)
Jennifer (I think I would nn Jenn as I think it is so strong)

Tobias (Toby)
Wilfred (adore Wilf!) but I couldn't then use William as a middle name really could I?

I also really like Edmund but is that taking the Narnia feel too far?

Thanks so much, it has really got DH and I thinking!

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 30/09/2010 21:10

I think Jules for Juliet is nice - Julie sort of spoils it a bit IMO but up to you :)

Jenn is a cool NN - know a couple of nice teenage/twenties Jenns and it works.

:o at Narnia theme - just go for it if you really like it. As long as you don't keep having babies in an effort to get the whole set.

Wilfred Raymond William - I think it's ok, they have very different sounds to me. Could be weird if little Wilf decides to go with Will or something as he grows up though. Can't you track down a fred in your family tree and say he's named after both: Will-Fred? (although please spell withou hyphen or I will cry). :o

BettyAlmighty · 30/09/2010 21:22

That's a good idea, we could drop William altogether and go for Wilfred Raymond George?

Okay tentative short list:

Boys
Wilfred (Wilf) Raymond George
Edmund (Ed) Raymond William
Tobias (Toby) Raymond William
James (Jim) Raymond William

Girls
Juliet (Jules) Meryl Elisabeth
Jennifer (Jenn) Meryl Elisabeth
Helena (Nell) Meryl Elisabeth
Margot (Peggy) Elisabeth Meryl
Mary (Polly) Elisabeth Meryl

What does anyone think? What is your favourite?

Thanks!

nigglewiggle · 30/09/2010 21:25

My suggestions for a boy have already been suggested.

For a girl -
Edith - nn Edie.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 30/09/2010 21:29

Albie, Chris, Sookie, Tess and...Wilf or Toby

Albie, Chris, Sookie, Tess and...Nell or Peggy or Polly

BettyAlmighty · 30/09/2010 21:36

I'm definitely leaning towards Wilf and Nell.

I just think they flow well!

Now just got to work on DH!!!

He wants Amelia (nothing against it but just too popular) I think I may have to show him some popularity statistics!

I think because I was always BettyAlmighty Initial at school, I want to avoid that for my children.

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 30/09/2010 21:40

there are loads of Amelias, and whole piles of Amelies too.

Do those names go alright with your surname? (e.g. surname is not Eethielefant or Redowen)

BettyAlmighty · 30/09/2010 21:46

Surname is pretty normal, think current chancellor of the exchequer!

I think Wilfred Surname or Helena Surname would both go alright?

I am very quickly falling in love with Wilfred so thank you!

OP posts:
tammytoby · 30/09/2010 21:49

As it is your fifth child, have you considered Quentin (derived from Latin Quintus, meaning fifth). Love the name as well as nickname Quinn.

For a girl I really like Helena or Isabel.

pooka · 30/09/2010 21:53

Helena definitely.

Is a lovely name.

I may be biased though. Is one of my middle names, and my first name you've already used. :)

LUcy (Lou/Lulu) would go well with your older dc's names.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 30/09/2010 22:01

Sound pretty normal to me (except that Margot might be MEMO but that's not exactly the worst thing in the world).

Glad you like Wilfred :)

Now go and hassle persuade DH.

Ohh Amelia Yoursurname is the nice but drippy character in Vanity Fair, so that might turn him against it :o
