This was top of my list for DD1 due in November, but worried it's becoming rapidly popular this year. I've heard it's also top of the shortlist for a few mutual friends. Confused

Well it would be Belle for starters.

Please don't do it.

ILoveGregoryHouse · 19/09/2010 10:17

Er, no. It's a boys name. And even that's a stretch.

skidoodly · 19/09/2010 10:20

It's so horrible and wrong

savoycabbage · 19/09/2010 10:21

Bo surely. You can't call a girl Beau any more than you can call a girl Richard.

cookielove · 19/09/2010 10:22

i believe Bo, is the girl spelling, however i do think it is very pretty, and i prefer the beau spelling. Not sure why it should be Belle Bucharest?

MarionCole · 19/09/2010 10:23

What everyone else said

MarionCole · 19/09/2010 10:23

Belle because it's the feminine version of beau (which is masculine)

belgo · 19/09/2010 10:23

Bo or Belle for a girl
Beau for a boy.

That said, Isabeau is a girl's name in Belgium.

SoupDragon · 19/09/2010 10:25

Horrendous. There are lots of pretty girls names, this is not one of them.

gypsycurlytots · 19/09/2010 10:29

I just love the sound of the name Beau, I'm aware that it means handsome but girls can be handsome can't they?

Tippychoocks · 19/09/2010 10:31

But it is the masculine word Confused.
Call her something else and use Bo as a nickname.

pointydog · 19/09/2010 10:32

It's a silly name for a girl because it's a masculine word.

Better to do an ulrika and go for Bo.

gypsycurlytots · 19/09/2010 10:33

Any suggestions on names that could have Beau/Bo as a nn?

gypsycurlytots · 19/09/2010 10:34

I'd worry about her being teased about Body Odour at school with the spelling Bo!!!

seaturtle · 19/09/2010 10:34

It's a nice name but I've only heard it used as a boy's name. However giving girls boy's names seems to be quite acceptable these days. I have a friend with a female Sydney and another with a girly.... Jedidiah!

belgo · 19/09/2010 10:34

I just suggested Isabeau!

gypsycurlytots · 19/09/2010 10:37

Isabeau is nice Belgo, do you know what it means? Smile

Tippychoocks · 19/09/2010 10:39

Don't call her Bo then. Call her something beginning with B and nickname her Bo, that way she's not saddled with a masculine name or something which may cause teasing.
FWIW I think she would suffer more as an adult explaining Beau than she would from BO teasing.

I've googled it and Beaudine is the nearest long name.

belgo · 19/09/2010 10:41

I think there was a queen Isabeau, I will look it up.

belgo · 19/09/2010 10:42

here

AttilaTheMeerkat · 19/09/2010 10:44

Do not pick Beau - she will be teased mercilessly and called BoPeep. Give her a name she can live with as an adult as well.

DaisyDaresYOU · 19/09/2010 10:48

Horrible.sorry

skidoodly · 19/09/2010 10:48

Boadicea?

Warrior Queen of the Iceni

bo short for boadicea would be quite a name

beau short for beautiful is what my grandfather's cousin was called her whole life (pronounced bew).

CharlieBoo · 19/09/2010 10:58

My friend and I were talking about this as we were watching Loose Women. The blonde lady has a daughter called Beau. She said her daughter wishes she was called something much more mainstream and adds names onto the end of her name. Fwiw I love it, but also spelt Bo.

Piroska · 19/09/2010 11:08

Bonnie?
