Marianne?

We are considering this for DD2 - we are looking for a 3 syllable name that is "old-style" feminine without being frilly.

What are your thoughts?

we seriously considered it but changed our minds at the registry office, deciding that if people misheard or pronounced it incorrectly it became Marion which we disliked.
We chose a name that can't be mispronounced hopefully. I do like Marianne though .
We also struggled to find a middle name that sat right with it although DH kept suggesting DD1's middle name which worked but I didn't think they should share the same MN.

No, no no! pointy. Marian is a bridge lady, might even possess rosary beads, has that M&S cardi with the big dinner plate buttons. Has friends called Marion, Mary B and Mary G, and Marie (the glamorous one).

Marianne is a different class of creature altogether.

Marian/Marion is a bohemian, mildly eccentric, divorced lady who works in lettings for an upmarket estate agency. She's a bit fierce, matronly, clever and good to her friends :).

Oh. I think I know what you mean. I hate Juliette if it's JuliETT but I like Juliet if it's JOOLyet. I don't think I like names that are too frilly, but I guess my line is a bit wavier than pointy's.

Mariana is terrible unless you're Brazilian.
