What do you think of Deborah as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

70's hell! Grin

chocolatefroggie · 31/08/2010 13:29

nice, but Debbie & Debs are AWFUL and it will get shortened.

MamaLazarou · 31/08/2010 13:31

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

BreastmilkDoesAFabLatte · 31/08/2010 15:04

Save it for the great-grandchildren. It'll probably be popular again in a couple of generations...

GetOrfMoiLand · 31/08/2010 15:05

I really like it - probably inspired by Deborah Mitford, the Duschess of Devonshire (am Mitford fanatic).

She uses Debo as a shortened version.

Debbie or Debs are hell, though, and probably unavoidable.

belgo · 31/08/2010 15:06

Either 40 years out of date or 40 years ahead of the curve. Whatever way you look at it, not a good idea.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 31/08/2010 15:40

Reminds me of the T-Rex song - Debora always look like a Zebra.

Debzk · 31/08/2010 15:44

Feel like I should be offended by this post as Deborah is my name Wink but then I was born in the late 70s so I suppose it's OK. I would like to point out though that I like the name and I do not think that Debbie or Debs are 'awful' or 'hell' I think Debbie is a very sweet name for a little girl and it's about time it made a comeback :)

EmmaRoyd · 31/08/2010 15:56

my name is Deborah and I like it! everyone is only reacting like this because its a 70's name that's not particularly trendy at the moment. If you like it why not be different instead of jumping on the 'old lady name' bandwagon. But don't use it unless you like the name Debbie, it's virtually impossible to stop people shortening it.

PersonalClown · 31/08/2010 15:58

I'm another 70's Deborah and I'm afraid to say I HATE it.
I shorten to Debs because it's the bare minimum that I can handle.

I blame my parents for being Blondie fans....

HoopyFroodDude · 31/08/2010 16:01

I like it. It has to be sung in the style of Pulp ..... your house was very small with woodchip on the wall etc.

5DollarShake · 31/08/2010 16:07

Way too soon for me!!

But by the time your DD is an adult it'll be all the rage again. I have some experience of this, having a deeply unfashionable name as a child which you now can't move for. Grin

AnnieLobeseder · 31/08/2010 17:06

I'm a Deborah, and I don't mind the name itself, though it's a bit long for everyday use. Problem is, I HATE HATE HATE Debbie and Debs. AAAAAAARRRRGH! It's impossible to be taken seriously as a blonde adult woman called Debbie.

So I go by Derah. One day it'll catch on....

horatia · 31/08/2010 17:46

I really like it and think it's due a revival :)

NiceCuppaT · 31/08/2010 17:48

Awful

zozzle · 31/08/2010 17:51

I don't mind the full name - v biblical.

A1980 · 31/08/2010 22:49

I like it. I wouldn't use it myself but what's wrong with it?!

I know one Deborah and one Debra. One of them is only 24 and she likes being called Debbie or Debs. She's blonde too!

When I think of the ridiculous names some of my friends have given their children and old classics get it in the neck....!

Go for it.

SirBoobAlot · 31/08/2010 22:55

Its not a bad name... But it is very 70s.

Bumbler · 31/08/2010 22:56

I agree that there's nothing at all wrong with it. For some reason Deborah sounds quite fresh but Debbie more dated.

I'd much rather meet a little Deborah than a Madison that's for sure!

A1980 · 31/08/2010 22:58

When I hear of names such as Mabel making a comeback, good god, I would choose Deborah hands down!

Love it....but then I'm a Blondie fan :o

DH hates it though so it's out of the running. :(

Concordia · 01/09/2010 01:13

i like it, but it does sound dated, as it was so popular in the late 70s.
