None arereally to my taste, but then you probably wouldn't like my names - Julia is the nicest of your girls names. Not really keen on names that sound like male names with an a or y at the end and sorry, Decca sounds made up.

Reg - nope- makes me think of a very old man, but definitely not in a `grandpa chic' way.

Blueskydreamer2331 · 10/08/2010 09:02

Alf, Jack, Ronnie, Bobby, Billy, Wilf are interesting old style boys names.Isla, Grace, Millie, Anne, Jane, Amber are lesser used girls names. I work in a nursery and Thomas, Sam and Nathan, Isobel, Elsie, Jessica are big at the mo,

Cortina · 10/08/2010 09:03

I like Wilfred, Fred for short or Wilf.

Julia is lovely also Bryony but Decca ... sorry but sounds like scouse nickname. Horrible, sorry.

A Reg would be in for a life of mickeytaking. As suggested by others Wilf is a cool name.

Blueskydreamer2331 · 10/08/2010 09:10

I think Bryony is nice, she can be called Bry or Brie is it needs shortening and they are both nice. Also like Leonora, you could have Norie, Lee, etc again unusual and nice, Decca seems a little odd I think, but if it means something to your family go for it. we see children with unusual names all the time, Sacha, Pheonix, Jensen, Ophelia, Mabel etc, they might make you miss a beat to start with but then you get to know the child and the name becomes part of who they are. good luck.

lulabellamozerella · 10/08/2010 09:13

Bryony - quite like it but I think it depends on the surname it goes with IYSWIM

Decca - quite like it - isn't made up it but can see why people think it is. Other similar names: Calla, Casta, Della, Dorsa, Ella

Julia - love it! Very classic and not overused

Leonora - also love it! Love when it is shortened to Lena, Leonie or Nora!

Are you Greek or just a coincidence?

Reg - like it but would give a full name like Reginald to give options.

Hope that helps.

MrsJohnDeere · 10/08/2010 09:13

The Decca I know is a boy.

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 10/08/2010 09:25

Decca was the nickname of one the Mitford sisters wasn't it?

I like Leonora and Julia. I really want to like Bryony, but someone once pointed out to me that it was 'a bit like Brian' i.e, Brian-y and it has put me off for life.

grumpypants · 10/08/2010 09:26

is Decca a record label?

JulesJules · 10/08/2010 09:31

'Decca' was Jessica Mitford's nickname. I would be inclined to name her Jessica and keep Decca as a nickname.

Love Julia and Leonora

NiceCuppaT · 10/08/2010 11:09

Not keen on any sorry! Would prefer juliette to julia.
Decca makes me think of Decca records...

CreepyFunbags · 10/08/2010 11:51

I like them all except Decca. Reg is a cool name for a little baby!

jellybeans · 10/08/2010 19:30

Bryony...love it
Decca...dislike
Julia...OK
Leonora...dislike but like leona and leoni

Reg...dislike

CupcakesHay · 10/08/2010 19:50

Not sure if it's any good - but Jessica Mitford was nicknamed Decca. So you could go with Jessica with nn Decca. but i like Decca. (and funnily, she had daughter called Julia)

Don't like Leonora, HATE reg and either/or on Bryony.

zenon · 10/08/2010 20:46

Leonora is just beautiful. Smile

Ticks all the boxes - Old established name, European so travels really well, easy to pronounce and spell in any language, rarely used so there will be no other Leonora in the class but best of all it just sounds gorgeous when said out loud.

Needless to say I vote for Leonora. Grin

LilMagill · 10/08/2010 23:17

Bryony, Julia and Leonora are all gorgeous and elegant. Decca stands out like a sore thumb. It's just a baby nickname for Jessica.

Not keen on Reg, would you perhaps like Rex which I find slightly better? Or is it too doggy still?

Ondine · 10/08/2010 23:26

Bryony - I know it's not but I think of it as the female version of Brian which is just not good.
Decca - strongly dislike, double decca bus, built like a bus...... all not a good train of thought.
Julia - lovely, classic, can't go wrong with it and probably quite unusual for this generation.
Leonora - very nice, more ott than Julia but not in a fussy way, sounds quite grand, it's more my style than Julia but both are equally nice.

LaundryLyne · 10/08/2010 23:45

Instead of Decca, would you consider Delilah or Adele, with Della for short?

nooka · 11/08/2010 05:56

I quite like Briony, but not Bryony, although I know they are both standard spellings Bryony just looks misspelled to me.

Julia and Leonora are both good names (I prefer Eleanor personally).

Decca to me is the record label.

Reg is an uncle sort of name to me, not old fashioned enough to be old man chic, and not a name in its own right, with the only long form really being Reginald, which isn't great.

muminthemiddle · 11/08/2010 10:44

Julia is my favourite.

Cortina · 11/08/2010 10:46

Thanks, I love Leonora but in the UK it is usually only picked by upper middle/upper classes it seems (or my limited exposure to it seems to suggest that) and fear we are not 'posh' enough so it seems a bit aspirational to use.

ValiumSingleton · 11/08/2010 13:58

Leonora is beautiful.

I like Julia but prefer Juliet. Years ago it would have been the other way round though. Names ending in a appeal to me some years and not other years!

Decca sounds odd.

I like Bryony. Is it Welsh? I quite like Gwyneth tbh!! Is it usable.?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 11/08/2010 14:33

The other Mitfords were Unity (probably best not), Pamela, Diana and Deborah, if you need more ideas.

Leonora is a nice name. Julia is a goody-goody name IMO, Juliet is cooler.

Bryony/Briony will do, it's a flower name so doesn't have to have anything to do with Brian.

Reg is pretty horrid. I knew a boy who was nicknamed Reggie as an insult, there's nothing heroic or romantic about a Reg.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 11/08/2010 14:38

Forgot Nancy!

zenon · 11/08/2010 20:17

Cortina, I know you really love Leonora. You don't have to be posh to have a Leonora, you just have great taste in names.Smile

Go for itGrin It is just gorgeous and you will probably not meet another.
