Just how badly would Sookie go down?

I'm not PG. Just broody.

But I love the name Sookie! Most people around here have quite traditional names though (DD also) so, how likely do you think it is that 'Sookie' would get catsbum faces?

Suki might be better received.

southeastastra · 05/08/2010 23:00

suki? sookie sounds like a glove puppet

Lionstar · 05/08/2010 23:01

Presumably for a girl. Maybe better spelt Suki. Seems more like a nickname to me. I knew a girls called Suks (sooks) once, not her real name but it suited her.

laweaselmys · 05/08/2010 23:01

Yes.

I googled it and could only find one other hit for Sookie. It's a character from a film. So that would be pretty obvious too!

It's not right, is it?

It kind of sounds like an insult. "I don't like her, she's such a flaming sookie". Or maybe the name of a cat, sorry.

I think I prefer Suki.

Wilts · 05/08/2010 23:02

I think everyone would assume you were a Trueblood fan

laweaselmys · 05/08/2010 23:03

Lol, see I was thinking using Suki would seem pretentious as we have no asian links. It's a pretty asian name. Whereas Sookie is a much more honest. A girl on a TV show is called this. It's an awesome name.

Haliborange · 05/08/2010 23:04

Fair enough. Alright then, I'll let you have "Sukey" (as in "Polly put the kettle on").

laweaselmys · 05/08/2010 23:04

TBH, I don't think DP would let me.

Maybe I could get away with it as a middle name. Possibly.

BelligerentGhoul · 05/08/2010 23:05

I don't know about the TV show but Sookie looks really silly imho and also looks as if it would be pronounced 'Sucky' to rhyme with 'bookie' which is not good. Suki is v pretty.

laweaselmys · 05/08/2010 23:07

It is Sook-E.

Instead of Suki Sue-Key

meadowlarks · 05/08/2010 23:09

Since when does Sucky rhyme with Bookie? If anything, Suki could easily be pronounced "sucky". Anyway, I too am a huge True Blood fan and love the name Sookie. But, like you say, it's well...the sort of a name only a fictional character could pull off. Having said that, try it out and see if it works on a real person.

seeker · 05/08/2010 23:10

People would lnow you are a Trueblood fan. They would also assume that you were bonkers.

southeastastra · 05/08/2010 23:11

oh blimey it's a vampire reference :S

laweaselmys · 05/08/2010 23:12

Hey, you get two weeks to register them don't you. I could try it out or have come to my senses by then

BelligerentGhoul · 05/08/2010 23:12

Sucky/Bookie deffo rhyme in Derbyshire.

meadowlarks · 05/08/2010 23:13

Apparently there is also a Sookie in Gilmore Girls and in a film called "Igby Goes Down"

laweaselmys · 05/08/2010 23:14

I'm going to bed.

I promise I won't really name my child Sookie! The you named your child after X would really get to me.

Although, the reaction was much milder than I was expecting, so maybe it's not that bad a name in itself.

Pukey Sookie...nah!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 05/08/2010 23:17

Sukey is a traditional nn for Susan/Susanna IIRC, and not one you hear much these days. I think that would be quite nice and unexpected. Sookie, however, just screams True Blood and that's not good.

CheerfulYank · 06/08/2010 01:55

I like it, but I love True Blood and the character from Gilmore Girls. Also, I once kissed the guy who sings the True Blood theme song. This is my only brush with semi-celebrity, so I bring it up whenever I get the chance. :o

JeMeSouviens · 06/08/2010 03:14

My mother used to call me a Sook, as in crybaby, so no I wouldn't use it myself.

thumbwitch · 06/08/2010 04:57

No way! In Australia sookie babies are whingey crybabies, as JMS says - that would be so wrong!

And Prof Layton has the other reason why preferably not - Sukey is an old-fashioned short/pet name for Susan/Susannah and even Sarah.
