Can no longer see the wood for the trees! Which of these do you like for with a two syllable surname?

Eloise
Cassie
Josie
Stella
Sylvie
Iris

I don't know many little children, please flag up if any of these have become mega popular!

I'd choose a 1 or 3 syllable first name to balance the 2 syllable surname.

Cassandra( nicknama Cassie) is lovely!

mopsyflopsy · 30/07/2010 13:32

sorry, didn't check my spelling - nickname

Colliecross · 30/07/2010 13:32

Sylvie is the only one of your list that I (quite) like, sorry.

BunnyLebowski · 30/07/2010 13:33

Cassie is my favourite as it's DD's name

She's nearly 2 and I've never met another yet. I've also never seen a Cassie on CBeebies or Milkshake birthdays
(this is my yardstick for name popularity!)

I also love Sylvie but I think only if you are French or have French connections.

Josie is cute!

Don't like Stella because of the wife-beater association

Eloise is a bit 'wet' sounding.

Iris doesn't do it for me.

I like Eloise. Agree that a 1 or 3 syllable name works best.

LaundryLyne · 30/07/2010 13:41

I like Cassie and Josie best from your list (particularly with Cassandra/Josephine as full name).

LilMagill · 30/07/2010 13:49

Sylvie is my favourite. Also like Stella and Eloise. Josie and Cassie seem a bit bland, blending into the nickname-name trend for girls. Do you like Cassandra? I think it's a lovely full name to whip out for when a Cassie wants to make a more striking impression.

What is the wife-beater association for Stella? A Streetcar Named Desire?

ValiumSingleton · 30/07/2010 13:51

I like Sylvie the best

ponceydog · 30/07/2010 14:00

I love Eloise and Stella

Cassie and Josie are ok. Sylvie not too keen.

Iris is very trendy boho to me.

zenoushka · 30/07/2010 14:37

I love Sylvie and Stella.

minipie · 30/07/2010 14:43

I like:

Eloise
Stella
Sylvie
Iris

However Stella does have the beer association unfortunately.

emmyloo2 · 30/07/2010 15:45

Iris and Eloise. Love both.

mathanxiety · 30/07/2010 15:49

Sylvie and Stella.

SqueezyB · 30/07/2010 16:22

I really like your list apart from Eloise.

Sylvie was one of my faves for DD2 but DH said no way Josie was on our list too but I was put off by the Big Brother girl.

All in all, I say go for Sylvie or Iris

foreverastudent · 30/07/2010 16:23

Eloise-not sure how to pronounce
Cassie-ok would put cassandra on bc though
Josie-nice, never hear it these days
Stella-some people will say it makes them think of the lager but I like it, why not give estella (as in great expectations)as formal name but use stella as nn?
Sylvie-too 'little girly' for an adult
Iris- too grown up for a young child

BelligerentGhoul · 30/07/2010 16:26

Love Eloise and Cassie (but would go for Cassandra with Cassie as nn personally).

Cakey0207 · 30/07/2010 17:31

Sylvie & Josie

Helokitty · 30/07/2010 21:47

Eloise - Love, but it is my DDs name. Not hugely popular. She is the only Eloise in her school (about 200 pupils) and was the only Eloise in her last infant's school, of about 250 pupils. Yet, she was named when the name reached the height of its popularity (was in the top 90s).

Cassie - Love it, agree it is better as a shortening, but I'm not over keen on cassandra. Makes me think only fools and horses somehow.

Josie - Love. very pretty name. Think it is best as a shortened version of Josephine or something.

Stella - Not keen. Makes me think Stella Artois or Stella McCartney.

Sylvie - Love but think a full name of Sylvia gives more 'grown up' options.

Iris - Really not keen. Do not think of this as a pretty name at all.

I do not think any of your names are overly popular or faddy. The only one perhaps is Iris, which I think could date in the future as being part of the flower / old lady names that are all in at the moment.

GladioliBuckets · 30/07/2010 22:21

Absolutely adore Sylvie.
Also like Stella and Josie if short for Josephine.

LJS666 · 30/07/2010 23:04

Love Sylvie - think it's cool.

TheOldestCat · 01/08/2010 20:58

I think all your names are lovely (although I have a Josie, so am biased when it comes to that one). Used to work with a Sylvie, so I think it does work for an adult, as well as a child.

hester · 01/08/2010 21:08

I like Cassie, Josie and Stella.

telsa · 01/08/2010 21:08

Eloise - pretty but prefer Lois
Cassie - love this - I knew an American girl years ago with this name and always loved it. I always think of candy floss for some reason! Agree that Cassandra would give the option of a better balance with 2 syllable surname.
Josie - great name - could use Josephine on birth cert - to balance with 2 syllable surname.
Stella- good name, lovely meaning - maybe to avoid beer associations use Estelle
Sylvie - wonderfully pretty name.
Iris - really do not like at all. Old lady, harsh sounding in English (French/German pronunciation softer ....EEErisss)

cazzybabs · 01/08/2010 21:09

I like Sylvie
