Following on from the "Peter" thread, what is the first name that springs to mind?

My shortlisted names have been rejected by DH and he hasn't made any suggestions of his own (it's too early apparently). The short list included:
Robert
Nicholas
Alastair
Tobias/Toby
Rupert

We are looking for something traditional but not too popular. I am being fussy though and whilst I like

Andrew, I don't like Andy
Ditto Christopher / Chris
Matthew / Matt

Many thanks!

Hi Spiderwilliam

My DD2's name was on my shortlist but DH didn't like it . So there is hope!

James and Jonathan are both brilliant with Peter. Do you/your DH like any of the abbreviations of James?
Thomas
Henry
William

Matthew came to my mind.

Thanks for the ongoing ideas. I showed DH the thread last night. So I think these are definite possibilities (in no particular order) that work with the surname and other names used by family members and friends.

David
Andrew
Thomas
William
Edward
Jonathan
Marcus (although is DH's boss's name, so probably not an option)

Rolf so, tell me, what means did you employ to persuade your DH? BTW Henry not really an option as DH and DCs' surname begins with an H and it sounds a bit wheezy when you say them together

Still hankering after Rupert though. I wish it didn't have such posh connotations, because as a set of letters making a two syllable name I think it sounds good. Is it pregnancy hormones?

Not helpful, I expect, but I think it was partly the meaning (God's gift) and how well it fitted with the way her birth happened. Her initials also match DH's favourite bit of tax legislation (I like to think that he is joking here!). Just one of those moments when something fits.

Sorry I can't offer more strategic advice!

If Peter had a brother he would be called Edmund. Their sisters would be Susan and Lucy. Obviously.

saltnvinigarcrips · 26/07/2010 22:50

Peter and Paul

SpiderWilliam · 26/07/2010 23:02

Edmund = Blackadder to me. Wont mean anything to the next generation though.

Rolf - ah yes the tax legislation argument. How could I have overlooked that?
