Rohan for a boy: mad or genius?

Rohan ticks a lot of our boxes, as we want something a little bit unusual and are also quite partial to Indian names as I am of Indian heritage. But DH isn't as keen as I am... any thoughts? You can be honest, I have thick skin.

Thanks!

Fab! Go for it.

I know two of them

apart from Tolkein and the travel clothes shop I can't think of any downsides

I like it but it is a bit LOTR

UniS · 23/07/2010 22:27

Trousers.

clemetteattlee · 23/07/2010 22:27

My sister is called Rohan.
But I also know two boys who have the same spelling.

deemented · 23/07/2010 22:28

I absolutely love it - this was in our top three list when we had DS.

I say go for it.

zerominuszero · 23/07/2010 22:31

Never heard of a shop with this name but I do concede on the LOTR point. I definitely think that this one will be our top three at the end but I'm not sure if it will end up going the distance or not.

Thanks for all the feedback so far!

I know a little boy Rowan. Rohan - travel and outdoor gear to me.

exexpat · 23/07/2010 22:37

I knew a pretty cool Rohan at university. These days it does also make me think of the travel clothing company - not a major problem, though.

QuantaCosta · 23/07/2010 22:42

I reaaly like this. My friend's son is called rohan and she's Indian so I have always thought of it as an Indian boys name.

Another friend has a daughter called Rowan. Again lovely and I really not into unusual or made up names.

5inthebed · 23/07/2010 22:43

It's lovely, go for it.

Blanchet · 23/07/2010 22:45

Sounds fine to me, I've met one (not Indian) but could never remember whether it was like Rowan or "Ro-han" with the h pronounced.

Hulababy · 23/07/2010 22:47

It's a nice name.

One of our neighbours has a little boy named Rohan. They are Indian and wanted a name that woked well in their language/cultures and also in English too.

MoppingMummy · 23/07/2010 22:48

I also know an Indian boy called Rohan (Ro - han). Lovely name.

Hulababy · 23/07/2010 22:48

Blanchet - our neighbours say Ro-han.

A good name. I don't think the outdoor shop is a problem: it's not as though you are suggesting Karrimor.

Good luck persuading your DH.

violetsmile · 24/07/2010 08:31

GENIUS I love it!

LetThereBeRock · 24/07/2010 11:14

I love it.

kildare34 · 24/07/2010 14:16

I really love it! Go for it.

dinkystinky · 24/07/2010 14:21

love it but then am indian and have cousins called Rohan...

loobylu3 · 24/07/2010 16:12

I think it's a great choice for a British/ Western Asian! It sounds strong and masculine and is easily to pronounce.
