Henny for short?
Chic or just shabby?

Henrietta is lovely.

Henny....not so much.

BridesheadRegardless · 19/07/2010 11:03

Very Lovely.

Not chic or shabby though.

More genteel country house.

CapitalText · 19/07/2010 11:11

I quite like Henrietta, not so keen on Henny though. Also like Harriet/Hattie.

Ettie is often short for Henrietta...

Pasiphae · 19/07/2010 14:00

Chic and lovely!

emmyloo2 · 19/07/2010 17:02

Love it. Absolutely gorgeous. Henry or Henny for short. Definitely chic not shabby.

Also like Harriet as Capitaltext suggested. Both were on my list of girl's names.

GladioliBuckets · 19/07/2010 17:53

Nice. Think I slightly prefer the French version Henriette (Onh-riette) but wouldn't have the guts to go that way.

ReasonableDoubt · 19/07/2010 17:56

It's a nice name, but it will never lose it's 'posh horsey girl' association for me.

catinthehat2 · 19/07/2010 18:08

Hetty for short not Henny I reckon. Quite like it.

flopsy1974 · 19/07/2010 19:39

Lovely name. Definately Hettie for short.

Soapsy · 19/07/2010 19:42

The only Henrietta I've ever known has always been called Hennie.

Al1son · 19/07/2010 21:24

I know a small child named Henrietta and everyone calls her Hen - awful.

CharlieBoo · 20/07/2010 10:36

Not keen, bit too boyish sounding, but love the nn's though.

Ineedsomesleep · 20/07/2010 22:10

Love it though agree with MrsWoolf on the nn. Would have put in our shortlist but our last name begins with H and I wanted to avoid alliteration.

mathanxiety · 20/07/2010 22:13

Love it. I prefer it to Harriet. Love the nn Etta (after Etta James), or Hettie.

CreepyFunbags · 21/07/2010 08:16

I really like Hettie and Etta, but don't really like Henrietta unfortunately.

BunnyLebowski · 21/07/2010 08:22

It's one of my most hated names of all time.

It just sounds so ugly and mannish. And off-puttingly posh. I would expect a Henrietta to look like Prince Harry in drag.

Bleurgh.

Colliecross · 21/07/2010 10:09

OK Bunny that's ruined it for me

birdofthenorth · 21/07/2010 10:12

Think Bunny was a bit harsh but I agree it sounds posh! I'd have Etta for short if I was going with Henrietta I think, for what it's worth

MercyMe · 21/07/2010 10:38

Henrietta is my Granny's name, it's really beginning to grow on me after disliking for a long time! Lots of her cousins were also Henrietta and most of them were known as Etta or Ella, my granny is Babs not sure how that came about!!

valiumSingleton · 21/07/2010 10:39

Awful. Horrible. Words fail me.

valiumSingleton · 21/07/2010 10:43

Bunny, only you and I hate it. It must be an Irish thing!? I love loads of beautiful, elegant, or regal names that I never heard growing up, but Henrietta seems like a parody of some sort. I think other people on this thread see Anna Chancellor's character from 4 weddings and a funeral. I see French and Saunders dressed up as Barbara Woodehouse.

Colliecross · 21/07/2010 12:43

Well I did ask

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 21/07/2010 20:25

Well I like it and I'm Irish. Maybe I'm the exception that proves the rule...
