Nancy or Saskia?

I can't decide between these, it has to be right because we've decided against a middle name.

Which do you think and why?

I prefer Nancy. They are both pretty names, but Nancy seems the more solid of the two.

CaptainNancy · 15/07/2010 23:27

Both lovely!
But why no middle name?

isittooearlyforgin · 15/07/2010 23:27

love nancy

LaRagazzaInglese · 15/07/2010 23:41

Prefer Saskia, but thats just from knowing someone called Nancy and someone called Saskia so completely personal but hard to shake off, Saskia's more sassy and Nancy is fancy

loulounikki · 15/07/2010 23:41

We just don't see the point in middle names. Our family names aren't very inspiring either,

Saskia

proudfoot · 16/07/2010 00:10

Saskia is lovely - I would go for that

Nancy is also very cute but seems more jokey

Just13moreyearstogo · 16/07/2010 00:13

Saskia.

Especially now there's a book called Fancy Nancy.

LuluF · 16/07/2010 07:52

I have a lovely, lovely friend named Saskia and I would love to use the name, though DH is not all that keen on it for some reason.

We also have a Nancy. Three and a half, very cheeky, funny and spirited - it really suits her. Known as 'Fancy Pants', she loves the Fancy Nancy books - what little girl wouldn't love a book with their name on/in?

When we named her - there weren't that many around, and I've only met 2 others (children) in 4 years, but it is being used more and more. If that's the sort of thing that worries you then - it might be worth going for Saskia.

We got some funny looks when we picked it - not sure why, it's not like it's a name that no-one's ever heard of, but my only concerns with it now are that it could be a 'trend' name - really popular for a while, then everyone will tire of it - I know that shouldn't worry me (I have a tendency to overthink things.) That said - it's a name that's been around for centuries and I still love it and I'm glad we picked it for her.

Nancy is lovely.

Saskia is ok.

Nancy.

anonymousbird · 16/07/2010 12:24

Nancy.
Saskia is just trying too hard and poncey

birdofthenorth · 16/07/2010 12:27

Both pretty but poncey imo I'm afraid. Nancy is nicer but tainted by the David Cameron association for me, sorry!

LuluF · 16/07/2010 12:34

Nancy? Poncey? That's funny

PaulineCampbellJones · 16/07/2010 12:35

Nancy definitely.

escorchio · 16/07/2010 12:38

You'd have to be very sure you were a Cameron fan before you plumped for Nancy at the mo.... shame because it is a pretty name.

Saskia is lovely though.

You could always wait and see what she looks like?

CuppaTeaJanice · 16/07/2010 12:39

Saskia is lovely.

There was a character in the Twinkle comic in the 1980s called Nancy. She was a real prissy goody-two-shoes and spent most of her time helping mummy with chores. It's put me off the name for life!

LuluF · 16/07/2010 13:15

You need to meet our Nancy - completely the opposite! Most of the time she's running round with her dress over her head, showing off her pants! And, so far, not all that keen on helping mummy with chores.

Pasiphae · 16/07/2010 13:46

Nancy is cool, upbeat, retro, quite chic.
Saskia is alright.

I think that they're both good names but the surname will make all the difference. Can you share it?

Margeaux · 16/07/2010 14:57

I prefer Nancy.
I've recently met a Nancy who is lovely, gorgeous and clever - which is probably why I like the name so much.

valiumSingleton · 16/07/2010 15:19

I prefer Nancy AS Pasiphae says it's upbeat and retro! If names have images, I prefer Nancy's. Obviously all children make a name their own though.

Saskia is nice too btw.
