Please see my latest revised shortlist none of which we 'love' I'm hoping for more suggestions please?

If you think you can suggest others please note my challenging critera :S

  • We have a pretty french surname (french-canadian DH) so I can't have anything too frilly or it sounds like a show-girl/burlesque artists name (in the UK anyway) its not 'la rouge' but it is not a million miles away. Lots of surname vowels mean that names ending in vowels often sound awful, e.g. Ella La Rouge = tongue twister and too frilly. This tends to makes me favour some unisex names
  • It does not have to be french/frenglish but has to be fairly easily pronounced by the french side of the family
  • Middle name is agreed as Grace due to special family connection to this name

we live in the UK, no plans to live in France/Canada so it doesn't have to be trendy in these countries (so that's one less thing to factor in!)

Claudia Grace
Ellis Grace
Elise Grace
Evangeline Grace
Merril Grace
Merrin Grace
Eloise Grace
Lowen Grace
Gisele Grace (not sure about the two G's but quite like gigi as a nn)
Mirielle Grace
(this is said Meer-ay in French, likely Mi-rell in english, don't mind this difference)

you have some lovely choices there and I think your surname sounds FAB!

my current favs are

Imogen
Beatrice
Cordelia
Celeste
Camille
Cecilia nn Cece
Natasha
Arianna

3plusbump · 13/07/2010 17:15

Evangeline Grace sounds beautiful - that's my favourite from your list

Kathleen123 · 13/07/2010 17:15

My fave from your list is:

Elise Grace

Alternatives I like are:

Isabelle Grace
Elisabeth Grace

sedgiebaby · 13/07/2010 17:15

I love this list thanks dizzy, I will have a think. I've always loved Natasha but I know so many (all lovely though)

Meant to add, DH wants a name easy to spell as we always spell our last name out (but his fave is Mirielle which has the least obvious spelling imo!)

We both love Isabelle it is the popularity that makes me think twice.

I think Elise is a french variation for Elizabeth which is a classy name, thaks for posting.

Elodie

Sylvie

Sukie

ShowOfHands · 13/07/2010 17:20

Mirabel
Miriam
Christabel
Josephine
Mathilda
Delphine
Beatrice
Ottilie
Xanthe

Kathleen123 · 13/07/2010 17:20

It is popular, but theres a reason for that - its lvovely. I think the nickname Belle with a french surname would be particularly pretty.

dizzydixies · 13/07/2010 17:29

sedgie - our DD1 is Isabella and I'm fed up banging on here about people going on about how popular it is - she is the only one we know. It all has to do with locality.

Seraphine is another lovely one and I adore Sylvie and Delphine too

AngryPixie · 13/07/2010 17:38

Arden, really pretty without the obligatory vowel ending.

janeite · 13/07/2010 17:41

Claudia Grace - lovely
Ellis Grace - I see Ellis as a boys' name
Elise Grace - lovely
Evangeline Grace - bit of a mouthful
Merril Grace - not fond
Merrin Grace -ok
Eloise Grace -lovely
Lowen Grace - not fond
Gisele Grace (not sure about the two G's but quite like gigi as a nn) -don't think this works so well
Mirielle Grace - not fond

Claudia, Eloise and Elise all really, really lovely.

janeite · 13/07/2010 17:41

Love, love, love Isobel - however popular it is!

dizzydixies · 13/07/2010 17:48

Arden is lovely but up here it sounds too much like Harden or Hardon

what about Arwyn? same vein but softer sounding - DD1 was very nearly Arwyn

Blythe is pretty

Claudia I adore apart from the meaning

sedgiebaby · 13/07/2010 17:52

sorry about that dizzy :S

I was just going by the baby name charts in the UK, and in the US pretty sure it is no 1 (and you know how crazy they went with Jennifer over there a few years back the result being support groups sprung up for people named Jennifer who felt hard done by lol!) but you are quite right in that I don't know any baby Isabelle/Isabella's(so far that is).

I'm just concerned about little one going to school and being the 'tall Isabelle/Ava/Florence' etc (I expect she WILL be tall as we are both lanky)

Or I consider if a person can be associated with a era because of the popularity of their name at that particular time, and it later becomes dated/aging.

...or maybe it doesn't even matter!! I'll think about it again....(I do like Isabelle/Ava/Florence very much)

Also like Seraphine, but in Quebec there is some nasty story of some kind about a Seraphine so it has been vetoed by DH

angrypixie I love Arden fantastic, but DH is not playing ball, this would sound great with Grace and our last name and is not too girly, quite genius in fact! Not sure what is wrong with DH, maybe its odd in french I dunno

dizzydixies · 13/07/2010 17:54

no need to apologise, it's a personal crusade of mine

and I'm with DH on Arden, sorry but its just too harsh sounding with Grace

what about Rosalind pn Rosalyn?

tethersend · 13/07/2010 18:12

Celine?

Chunkamatic · 13/07/2010 18:26

I have never heard the name Lowen before but I think it is lovely! Unique and unusual but also pretty and feminine.

My vote goes for Lowen Grace. After that would be Mirielle.

Good luck!

dizzydixies · 13/07/2010 18:28

Susannah
Merrin
Meredith
Penelope

SE13Mummy · 13/07/2010 18:47

How about Harriet? Could sound suitably French with the right accent and with a 'proper' ending won't run into your surname.

AngryPixie · 13/07/2010 18:58

Work on DH, my Arden is gorgeous, and she nearly was Arden Grace

sedgiebaby · 13/07/2010 20:02

dizzydixies I quite like Meredith hmmmmmm

SE13Mummy Harriet is also a great suggestion, we have a family friend thus named which is the only thing to put me off.

tethersend With my Quebec connection I just can't consider Celine (basically the queen of Quebec)

AngryPixie, I will try DH again with Arden

mathanxiety · 13/07/2010 20:14

I love Mireille (spelled MIREIllE) and Gisele from your list). (And I love Arden too...)

I suggest Marin or Maren instead of Merrin.

How about Antonia or Anastasia?

I also love Juliette, Daphne, Miranda, Audrey, Aubrey....

ragged · 13/07/2010 20:15

I like Claudia, I don't warm to any of the others.

Chunkamatic · 13/07/2010 20:15

Ooh yes Daphne is a lovely name...

weepootle · 13/07/2010 20:32

The only one I really like from your list is Evangeline which is just gorgeous.

I like the Meer-ay pronunciation of Mirielle but no-one would ever read it like that- she'd be forever called Mi-ree-elle.

dizzy's list was nice and I can't really think of any names I love at the moment...

I knew a lovely little French Mathilde, very pretty name with the accent. Romilly Grace has a nice ring to it.
