3rd Covid jab

Anyone know exactly who will be offered a 3rd vaccination in the UK?

Would being on biologics fit the criteria?

I was hoping someone would start a thread about this!

Best with ... I will return shortly.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-58407643

Its's the most vulnerable 500,000 or so people:

"Those eligible for a third dose include people:

  • being treated for acute or chronic leukaemia at the time of vaccination
  • with advanced Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) or Aids
  • who have had a stem-cell transplant in the past two years
  • who have had therapy for a solid-organ transplant in the six months before vaccination
  • who have had immunosuppressive chemotherapy or radiotherapy in the six months before vaccination
  • who have had high doses of corticosteroids in the month before vaccination"

I can't post the link for some reason but google 'JCVI third vaccination' and there's a gov.uk page.

I've cut and paste the relevant section below:

_

Advice
At the current time, JCVI advises that a third primary dose be offered to individuals aged 12 years and over with severe immunosuppression in proximity of their first or second COVID-19 vaccine doses in the primary schedule. Severe immunosuppression at the time of vaccination is defined using the guidance and timings stated below.

  1. Individuals with primary or acquired immunodeficiency states at the time of vaccination due to conditions including:

acute and chronic leukaemias, and clinically aggressive lymphomas (including Hodgkin’s lymphoma) who were under treatment or within 12 months of achieving cure

individuals under follow up for chronic lymphoproliferative disorders including haematological malignancies such as indolent lymphoma, chronic lymphoid leukaemia, myeloma, Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia and other plasma cell dyscrasias (note: this list is not exhaustive)

immunosuppression due to HIV/AIDS with a current CD4 count of 3.0mg/kg/day, 6-mercaptopurine >1.5mg/kg/day, mycophenolate >1g/day in the previous 3 months

certain combination therapies at individual doses lower than above, including those on ≥7.5mg prednisolone per day in combination with other immunosuppressants (other than hydroxychloroquine or sulfasalazine) and those receiving methotrexate (any dose) with leflunomide in the previous 3 months

  1. Individuals who had received high-dose steroids (equivalent to >40mg prednisolone per day for more than a week) for any reason in the month before vaccination.

Individuals who had received brief immunosuppression (≤40mg prednisolone per day) for an acute episode (for example, asthma / COPD / COVID-19) and individuals on replacement corticosteroids for adrenal insufficiency are not considered severely immunosuppressed sufficient to have prevented response to the primary vaccination.

What biologic are you on, @PricklesTheHedgehog?

PricklesTheHedgehog · 01/09/2021 21:52

@SpindleWhorl @nether Thanks for posting!

I'm on Infliximab which is a TNF inhibitor. I also take Azathioprine on a lower dose than the one mentioned.

I've no idea whether I've developed Covid immunity from the two jabs I've had and would love to have another vaccination to top it up.

Though I'm acutely aware there are millions across the world who are yet to receive a first one.

OP posts:
SpindleWhorl · 01/09/2021 21:56

I'm on Adalimumab, so will be invited too.

CharlotteRose90 · 01/09/2021 21:57

I’ve been invited already for one but I won’t be having it. The first 2 made me ill with side effects I still have now. No chance. I’ll take my chance sadly.

SpindleWhorl · 01/09/2021 22:00

@CharlotteRose90, it's a very difficulty one to weigh up. I think I will get the 3rd because it'll be an mRNA one, and my first two were AZ.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 01/09/2021 22:06

I assume I will be because dd was called in the 12-15 group last week.

I was concerned about my immune response to the vaccine because I'm on infrequent steroids and was taking them before my vaccine.

Exeter hospital do private vaccine immunity testing. This is specifically to measure your response to the vaccine and not the one to detect vivid antibodies from natural infection.

My response was good I'm pleased to say. Anything over 250mmol is considered a good response.

It might be worth having this test so you know how much protection you have. It was £37 and was a home kit that you send back by return post in a priority box.

My first 2 were AZ too so I’m not taking the risk .I don’t trust them sadly and I’m not putting my health at risk again.

I had covid really badly in April/ May last year. I'm CEV and on biological meds for RA (etanercept). Had both jabs by April this year and just tested positive for covid again yesterday, although I don't have it as severely as last year.
Still not sure if I will qualify for a 3rd jab (had 2 AZ jabs).

Thanks very much for this. Smile

I've opened the link, but can't see anything about private testing for individuals. I'd be happy to pay £37 and would love to do it. Do you think they are still offering the tests?

OP posts:
Hadenoughcrap2 · 01/09/2021 23:03

My 1st jab made me really ill, with fever over 40°C chills, etc, for about 3 days. 2nd jab was much easier, mainly just a sore arm.

gogohm · 01/09/2021 23:12

My sil was tested for immunity due to being on one of the above and she had very little, whereas dp's dsis was tested (different underlying medical issues but still an immunosuppressant) and she has had a good immune response. Neither are considered high risk on age grounds (under 50)

Yes, you'll qualify, as Etanercept is a soluble TNF receptor, and on the list.

that exeter test seems to be aimed at HCPs.

not home users ?
any more information where how we could get one ?

Sorry I linked the main lab. This is the link for their home testing.

3rd Covid jab
Hadenoughcrap2 · 02/09/2021 10:39

My GP for some reason didn't have it on my notes that I'm on this drug (and have been for 5-6 years), possibly because it was organised by my RA consultant and is sent directly to me.

This is despite me telling them numerous times and it being in every letter they are sent a copy of.

This meant that I wasn't treated as CEV until late 2020, even though my RA consultant said I was and I passed this onto my GP at the time. My consultant referred my details to NHS England in the summer of 2020, but said the GP had to as well.
My details were then somehow lost in the system so I didn't receive the letter for a long time

I finally received a letter allowing me to access priority online shopping in April of this year.

Before that I'd been having to go and shop in person myself as throughout 2020, I was unable to get any online slots from any supermarket, until the end of that year when it became a bit easier to grab the odd slot.

It was only in Feb 2021 when I had a face to face with a new GP and he'd read my notes that he realised I should've been on their CEV list and he arranged for me to have my 1st vaccine that day.

Astonishing - I have my test results online already! Amazingly quick service.

I have immunity, but it is low at 60 U/mL.
