I have a wonky thyroid - tired Hmm losing hair, anxious, depression, bloated...did I mention tired?

Conventional medicine says there's something wrong with you but we won't treat you (yet) sub clinical hypothyroidism

Everything I read about more 'natural' and integrative methods says you need to cut out a lot of different foods, get a decent night's sleep, reduce stress and do yoga Wink + supplements and probiotics etc.

So, in a long winded way to go about it...has anyone done this before? Anyone who would like to support each other to do this?

TIA

The blood test for coeliac was negative. I only had a colonoscopy last week and i wont be rushing for one again. They did take five biopsies but i dont suppose they would test for it unless asked. I started to eat those gluton free biscuits/bread etc snd they went right through me so i wont be wasting money there.

Ive gone back to yoga and its helping but i cant even bend my fee to get into kneeling position. Going upstairs is so difficult i feel lime my thigh muscles arent working.

My thyroxine level is 2.5 the best its been my gp must be getting sick of me now.

So pleased to find this thread. Thanks MrsJones. I’m hypo currently on 100mg of levothyroxine. Last bloods showed tsh of 3.2 - doc says that’s fine but I’m still struggling. Only way I lose weight is by cutting down to 1000 cals or less a day Confused and I can’t manage that ongoing. Def up for trying gluten free as some tummy problems too

MrsJonesAndMe · 16/09/2018 08:02

Morning, good to see you here.

I'm not on meds, but have been steadily losing a few pounds by cutting gluten, generally less in the way of carbs and less junk.

Finding that the GF replacements don't really agree with me...

Hi @photome ☺
@each that sucks a bit, I'm sorry. I was similar in that I had a colonoscopy and could've asked for the biopsy but didn't. At that time, my priorities were elsewhere. I'm glad the yoga is helping! I still haven't started mine yet, the tonsillitis threw everything out of whack for a while.
@mrsjones I have a nutribullet which is more of a smoothie maker so not really the best for juicing. I'm committing myself to a week of juicing before I buy a proper juicer. Am researching at the moment but they are so expensive!

EachandEveryone · 17/09/2018 12:48

So I’m not the only one who find GF run through me? What’s in them?

The last few days I’ve started to feel more tired and having abit of vertigo. I’m wondering if it’s the hrt I’ve started anyone else on it?

MrsJonesAndMe · 17/09/2018 13:53

I think it's just highly processed rubbish really... Hopefully I have a decade to see DD through her teenage years before I get to the menopause Hmm

I've made egg/mushroom/ham bake so I have something easy to grab in the mornings. Soup in the fridge and healthy teas meal planned. Now I just need to get on with it!

MrsJones you’re right the GF substitute stuff is just weird. It’s kind of unpleasant and yes it doesn’t agree with me either.

With Gf It’s all about the food planning isn’t it? You can’t just open the cupboards and make a quick sandwich. I’ve just done a big shop so have a reasonably good idea of what I’ll be eating over the next week. Today’s lunch salmon with sweet potato and broccoli, tonight chicken curry. And some dark chocolate for pudding 😀.

I’m feeling really positive about this, I’ve done so much better this year than last and I’m sure it’s due to the diet.

EachandEveryone · 18/09/2018 09:58

Have you stopped wheat as well!

EachandEveryone · 18/09/2018 09:58

Didn’t mean the exclamation mark 😡

MrsJonesAndMe · 18/09/2018 19:22

Never mind - errant punctuation Grin

I have given up all gluten. I am still eating brown rice, rice noodles, sweet potatoes, quinoa and potatoes in moderation. I have to admit that I eat a GF brownie or muffin when out and about as I'm a sweet fiend. Have tried GF oats but it didn't like me too much either...

How is everyone else doing?

No Hilbo you can't just eat a sandwich which is bloody annoying indeed! Or pizza or biscuits - which I guess is the point Blush Blush

Anyone ever tried CBD oil?

WerewolfNumber1 · 19/09/2018 09:39

I’ve been gluten free for about a week now - I think I feel a bit less foggy but hard to tell! Am trying to stick with it for at least a month.

There’s definitely a temptation to stock up on the prepared gf foods but they are very highly processed and a bit odd sometimes. So I’m trying to go for more natural options.

Breakfast quiches a great idea, will batch cook some today.

MrsJonesAndMe · 19/09/2018 12:16

Well done Werewolf

My sister and nephew have been to stay and i think she was shocked to see how much pain im in. We went sight seeing in London in the wind with me in my fit flops as they are all i can wear. Now i cant decide if they are making me worse. Ive got pockets of fluid all around my ankles and tops of my feet. And hips. I feel as if only i can see them. My bloods were negative for arthritis but im in so much pain, every single tow i can hardly move them back and forth. Putting on shoes is like putting a tourniquet on.

Ive got to go back to work in two weeks. My total hysterectomy was a breeze compared to the joint pain. The hrt doesnt seem to have helped.

MrsJonesAndMe · 22/09/2018 20:03

That sounds awful Each Sad I'm sorry you're in so much pain. And the weather is getting cold, so flip flops are not a great choice. How are you doing with diet choices?

I have done very badly the last few days. My birthday, so while GF, there's been too much crap and not enough nutrients. Back on the straight and narrow tomorrow!

Oh ive been rubbish as well. Gave all my GF stuff to my sister it did not agree with me. I just wish i could see a professional who can pount me in the right direction. I just have no idea who that should be. It looks like its down to the individual to research for themselves. Thats the impression im gettong. Its been a year next month since ive been like this.

MrsJonesAndMe · 27/09/2018 19:06

How are we all? I've been off the straight and narrow in terms of diet and looking after myself 😟🤔😳

Not good. Hope the rest of you are faring better!?!

Hi, thought I'd join you all. Have had psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis for over 15 years. Have been gluten and dairy free in the past, lost lots of weight and was more flexible but that was ten years ago! Have more recently done paleo aip for over a year, did have flare ups, knees swollen, lots of pain etc I did try really hard to rid my body of possible toxins, fungal stuff. I took colon cleansing powders. Vit D and b12. I did feel better and again lost weight but lots of my symptoms didn't go away, I think you have to be in for the long haul. Life gets in the way, kids, dogs, celebrations, work....
I think sleep seems to be at the top of lots of better health lists. I am going to give something dietary another go soon, will see if anyone else has any success!
Should probably start getting to bed!!

JulesHum48 · 06/10/2018 21:06

Eachandeveryone.
Gf stuff often has guar gum and similar that really irritate the gut. paleomom.com is as n interesting website and she has explanations why various foods are not helpful. There are people's autoimmune stories on the website. I think it is a real battle to find answers (are there any?!) especially when in pain and exhausted. Paleo mom was a real motivator for me when I embarked on this health quest journey yet again.
I also think my arthritis may be linked to the mirena coil which I had taken out a while ago. I just need to have another go at cleaning up my diet..

lucy101101 · 06/10/2018 21:18

I have a neurological condition that appears to be AI and have also just had Parvovirus B19 (for 4 months...) and this often leads to other AI issues so overhauled rather dramatically as I felt so, so ill ! I was already dairy free but went gluten free (and alcohol free) but I suspect more importantly heavily researched anti-inflammatory foods so basically I eat loads of fruit, veg, salads, red salmon, some chicken, homemade soups, oats, rice, buckwheat etc. I also try and rest more and have better sleep and take loads of supplements etc. I avoided processed GF food as it is often so disappointing... and I don' think the 'processed' part is helpful. It is rather boring and limiting... but I still drink coffee and eat dark chocolate! I hope it will pay off.... I think it is....

AuntieO · 04/12/2018 20:54

How are we all doing?
I gave up on the juicing, wasn't sustainable in the long term.
Have been doing ketogenic way of eating since mid oct and have lost almost a stone and am back at the gym. Thyroid meds increased and feeling pretty good(touches wood). Still having lots of joint pain so going back to the GP but my energy levels are slightly better and I feel less "foggy" and can think more clearly.

AuntieO · 04/12/2018 20:55

Lucy, I definitely think eating less processed foods is helpful.

AuntieO · 04/12/2018 20:58

I've pretty much stopped drinking as well, which has made an enormous difference to my general well being. Still have the odd drink but even one or two affects me the next day so will probably get to the stage where I won't even do that anymore.
