Well here we are, after 2 years of head-scratching speculation and many weeks of trial detail-thrashing. It looks like the Judge will give his directions to the jury on Tuesday, after which they'll be sequestered in a local motel (I do not envy them this) to reach a verdict.

Clearly we're not privy to every last piece of evidence shown at the trial, but those of us who've been following closely will surely have formed an opinion one war or the other.

So, I ask you- if you were on the jury- what would your verdict be?

If there is a hung jury, a new trial and a new thread will be needed!

I can see disagreement happening in the jury room and maybe there will be no verdict. It's a possibility to keep in mind I suppose.

If the jury is hung I doubt they will run it again. They’ve spent a fortune on this trial and gave it their best shot.

I wonder if the severity of the crime (number of deaths), would mean a retrial in the event of a hung jury, but you're right - the prosecution will decide whether or not to go again based on many factors.

If they don't, she will forever be under suspicion of murder though. Which she will probably be happy enough with if released from jail.

OMG. Justice Beale will finish his charge on Monday, now!

At the very least she will always be known as a filthy compulsive liar, and possibly a murderer. She probably will have to become a recluse. Yes, she might even enjoy that, because she’s got her revenge, who knows, but anyway she can stew in her own shit for the rest of our life.

they found remnants of death cap mushrooms on the dehydrator

She told them she had a serious health matter to discuss, in order to get them there. Then at the meal told them she had cancer.

What was apparent was that she didn't get a great response from them about having cancer. It's almost as though they'd heard all that bullshit before!

I know we can't discuss this now but I would really like to know what it was she was accused of prior to this event.

EleanorReally · 26/06/2025 07:33

Erin Patterson gave evidence that she didn't know where Phone A was when police conducted a search of her home.
She told the jury Phone A went into a skip bin, which is something she occasionally did.
She also mentioned feeling puzzled when she noticed Phone A hadn't been seized during the police search of her home.

I don't know how you came up with that. They prayed for her, not knowing that they themselves were about to die and her cancer story was just a lie, and were interrupted by the arrival of her son and his friend.

The conversation ended when the guests saw Erin and Simon’s son and his friend arriving at the property through a window, the jury heard.

“I suggested that we pray, and I prayed a prayer, asking God’s blessing on Erin that, shall we get the treatment that she needed, that the kids would be okay, but she’d have wisdom in how she told the kids. Then the prayer concluded as the boys arrived in the room,” Ian said.

Thanks @Yazzi for explaining the actual law. It's sometimes easy to forget that law and morality are not the same thing, at all.

This keeps popping into my head. God those poor jurors.

Gosh the judges charge is going on a long time. It must be a lot of work for the judge to pull that all together, then deliver it

ThelsDell · 28/06/2025 08:08

If the murders were planned, why was the dehydrator kept and only disposed of several days after the meal? Why post photos of it on social media? Why use a credit card to buy it, and to dispose of it in a public tip? Remember that she has been acknowledged by several witnesses to be very intelligent.

If I remember correctly, the photos of mushrooms on the scales were taken off her phone or iPad, not from social media. However it doesn’t seem very clever to have taken the photos in the first place.

Buying the dehydrator with a credit card and keeping it until after the poisoning suggests that she thought she’d get away with it much more easily. I think she was unaware of how quickly the medical team would suspect death cap poisoning, or that they would suspect it at all.

Agree with pp she probably thought she would have got away with it. Probably had before with Simon ( though the jury can't use this as information)
She comes acting as arrogant and Narc though again no official diagnosis. But in her testimony that's how she came across to me.

She also probably didn't think the death caps would be found straight away as to their illness, if ar all with their short detection time. Intelligent people make mistakes. Also she probably isn't as intelligent as she thinks she is.

If all the guests at a lunch you had prepared died or almost died soon after eating that meal except yourself, surely you would expect to immediately be the suspect and your every action scrutinised. Why keep any evidence that you could have at least attempted to get rid of before (not after) the meal?

Blueyshift · 28/06/2025 08:53

Also thta is probably why the phone was reset several times and a phone is missing.

She had ' symptoms' too. If we are to believe Ian she did get rid of the plates and I am not sure where the 10 buts of meat went.

It’s the jury’s job, not ours to examine all this evidence in great detail. For example, all the evidence to do with getting rid of the plates, and the remains of the meal examined by police.

Oh really! I thought I was on the jury. I don't mean to be snipey but this is a discussion forum.

It is quite obvious it is up to the jury and there is information they can and can't use. People can however have their own opinion. So I am confused by your post.

ThelsDell · 28/06/2025 09:28

I’m saying I don’t think it’s realistic for us to examine all the details necessary to make fully informed decisions. I prefer to keep an open mind when someone’s future and reputation is at stake.

Totally agree and the Jurys decision will be final. People however can still discuss their own opinions on a discussion forum.

What have we been doing discussing this for four very long threads then? The devil is in the details, and while we are not privy to much of the material put before the jury, there has been enough extensive coverage on multiple reputable sites, as well as podcasts on the same reputable sites, to have a fair working knowledge of the the prosecution and defence cases, and the facts presented.
