Restarted making art over the last month or so. Just starting out with watercolor paints and really loving them. These 3 pictures are my latest work. Can you give me your honest opinions please.

I like the animals? Can I please ask how you did the whiskers on the leopard? Did you paint white over the top?

coffeeandchoc · 08/08/2020 08:21

@thinkofablinkingnamewoman thank you. That one was my favourite and is displayed in my parents hall.

@babyguffingtonstrikesagain thank you and the whiskers were done with a white gel pen once the paint had dried.

Had another go in the same style. I like this one better.

I'm an artist and a tattooist, and because this is anonymous I'll give you my tips.
You clearly have talent, and a great eye for colour/mark making, but you need to take your work from amateur looking to professional.

Here goes -

Most artists trace stuff, no one told me this in art school, and I really wish they had. It's not cheating, if you are learning to draw better alongside it. It saves time, and nothing ever looks out of proportion then.

Always use a reference image for figurative work, or figuration within an abstract piece.

Draw something EVERYDAY, and do a life drawing class weekly.

You tube videos are your friend.

Always use the best quality material materials, instagram is full of artists working on shit paper, with shit paints and it lets them down.

I apologise if you already know some of this stuff - but although I'm a trained painter, I've had to work a lot of it out for myself in the last decade.

Finally you are so lucky to have this creative place to retreat to, I can't imagine my life without it.

Thank you @nobodysdaughter I appreciated you taking the time to pass on your knowledge and tips.

The eyes are amazing. I’m hopeless at eyes.

Figures with no faces seems to be a thing at the moment.
I was thinking about this yesterday because I was looking at art on Etsy. There were a lot of faceless figures or with very minimalist faces.

They're amazing!! I wish I could draw and paint like that. I still haven't managed to progress from the typical half green half blue paint with a house on a hill and the sun in the corner of the paper with a few stick people dotted here and there that a 4 year old could do

coffeeandchoc · 09/08/2020 16:59

And another abstract in the same style that I have done today.

Pleased with how these have gone and have definitely discovered a style that I will try more of.

But as I am most certainly an amateur I will keep trying new things and see where it takes me!

@perfumeistooexpensive thanks - they are my favourite part of the leopard.

@Lozz22 Grin that is a definite style of art!
