Please give me your opinion on my cards

I have been making cards for a few years and have over a hundred.

As I look at them I can see how I have improved as I have gained in confidence but would appreciate someone else's opinion. I will post a couple of photos of cards I have made yesterday and today and maybe, for a laugh will find one from years ago and hopefully an improvement is seen Grin.

Please give me your opinion on my cards

I agree with the comments that say they look very dated. One comment I would make is that some of the embellishments look like they’re sort of “floating” in the middle of nowhere, as if they’ve just been stuck on with no real pattern or order to them. Also, sometimes less is more, having one big “main” embellishment can look good, alongside a few pearls or rhinestones to compliment it.
Maybe have a look on Instagram or Pinterest for some inspiration?

nzeire · 05/05/2020 18:10

They are beautiful! Bloody he’ll you have some patience! I’d appreciate the effort and love that had gone into a card like that. My husband spent a week on my card this year and I will treasure it forever!!!

Old fashioned? Well, I wouldn’t say that. I wouldn’t use the word edgy either! They are just gorgeous, well thought out, well executed little pockets of joy.

The flower pots are my fave!

penguingorl · 05/05/2020 18:11

Oh gosh, are all of the old fashioned comments from other card makers? I thought the best wishes one looked unfinished and you needed other colours/not all the same, but otherwise they're great. The ones in the 3rd photo especially, the piggies are so cute! I would be sooo happy to receive any of your cards! (I'm a middle aged female crafter but have never done cards seriously)

CassandraCross · 05/05/2020 18:11

I prefer the lot you posted at 16.54, they look more original and better quality, am I right that these are the first ones you made?

Drgo · 05/05/2020 18:16

I think the ones with flowers are nice and sending to friends and family it is a lovely thing to do, I would be thrilled.

I think people are coming at this from a selling point of view, in that no, they may not appeal enough to sell above the cheaply made mass-produced crap but for sending to a friend or relative, they are lovely OP. Well done.

PineappleTart · 05/05/2020 18:19

I'd be thrilled to receive any of these but wouldn't pay for them. I always appreciate a homemade card and tend to keep them because they're special

Nomorewineever · 05/05/2020 18:21

I’d be happy to have one of those from the maker, who made the card thinking of me and I could appreciate that person specifically putting the effort in.

Which is largely different from making to sell. Give them to those in your circle of family and friends and I am very sure they will be appreciated and admired for their direct sentiment far more than a hallmark/Tesco effort given 3 seconds of consideration.

AngelaScandal · 05/05/2020 18:24

Do not bin them! I think they’re lovely and I’d appreciate a handmade card any day.

BumBurnerBum · 05/05/2020 18:26

I agree with pp that I'd be very happy to receive one of these from a loved one that had gone to the effort to make it and would keep it.

StillWeRise · 05/05/2020 18:31

I'd agree with all the PP - it would be lovely to receive this from the person that made it, knowing they had put time and effort in but they are really not to my taste and I wouldn't buy them
Just make what you like OP, you don't have to please me or anyone else on here!

Bluntness100 · 05/05/2020 18:32

Op. Is this just a hobby of yours? Do you just gift them to people when it’s a special date or thing for them?

I think they are lovely and I’d love a friend or family member to take the time to make me a card.

Keep going and ignore the silly comments, expecting you to be outdoing Clinton’s.

For me you are though, as said, I’d rather someone made an effort like this, than bought something generic, shows effort and thought.

They are lovely.

TheMarzipanDildo · 05/05/2020 18:33

God, if you’re not selling them they are perfectly lovely! Please don’t bin them

crustycrab · 05/05/2020 18:38

God no don't bin them! I think your OP made it sound a bit like you were planning to try and sell them.

I'd love to receive any handmade card! It shows care and thought and patience. It's the exact opposite of a shitty moonpig card

CassandraCross · 05/05/2020 18:51

I'd certainly pay for the ones you posted at 16.54 (your third post), look as good, if not better, than ones in shops that purport to be 'handmade'. Don't give up or bin them OP, a card hand made by someone holds far more meaning than a bought one of which there are several hundred the same.

1066vegan · 05/05/2020 19:04

I think they're very pretty. I wouldn't pay money for any of them but would be really happy if one of my friends or family made any of those for me (both because they look nice and because I'd really appreciate the thought and time that had gone into making them).

Mammatino · 05/05/2020 19:06

I think they are lovely and would really appreciate someone making me a card like that, it just shows so much care and thought. Haven’t got a great tips as I am a bit crap at crafting 😁

CrochetBug · 05/05/2020 19:20

No dont bin them! I love receiving handmade cards regardless of how good they are because I know how much work goes into them.

Sorry if I was too critical. I really didnt mean to be, I was trying to be helpful. I look at loads of stuff I make and hate it. So I think I'm just super fussy! Weirdly the stuff I dislike the most is the stuff other people love and ask me to make more of.

My friends wife makes and sells cards. She makes a very decent 3rd income from it. I personally think all her cards are boring and samey. But others are buying them so she must be doing something right!

hermionegrange · 05/05/2020 19:23

I think they're lovely Op and I'd buy them for some of my relatives if I saw them. Lots of 'old fashioned' comments but I'd say 'classic' and there's nothing wrong with that :)

CodenameVillanelle · 05/05/2020 19:29

If I received one from someone who made it I would be thrilled and very touched. No they aren't sellable standard but so what? Handmade cards need to be exceptional if people will pay the higher cost for them so don't worry about that.

Are you on Pinterest? There are loads of inspirational ideas to look at on there.

Bluntness100 · 05/05/2020 19:32

I think many of them are sellable standard op, wrapped in some cellophane etc, although I know that’s not your objective. Have you seen some of the mass produced stuff you can buy!

Honestly as gifts to people they are so lovely. Please don’t bin them and keep making them. Anyone who you give one to will be beyond delighted and touched, they will treasure it.

You’ve also come so far, keep going. You’re right, the improvement is clear. They are fab.

Teacakequeen · 05/05/2020 19:47

I like the pig ones the best. Did you draw those?

Smellbellina · 05/05/2020 19:53

I love the spotty piggy one!

pilates · 05/05/2020 19:54

As a homemade card received from a friend I would like it but I don’t think the standard is high enough to sell online.

Livingthecovidaloca · 05/05/2020 19:58

If you were thinking of selling my DMIL’s sheltered accommodation sell just this style of homemade card for £1 each. They’re really popular with the residents.
So you might find your market somewhere like that.

stressandmorestress · 05/05/2020 20:12

They're lovely, I don't think they're old fashioned at all. I wish I had a crafty hobby! My mum makes cards aswell, she has done for years now and always has people at work and friends asking her to make them for someone, people love home made cards.
