Moon sand, yes or no?!

My daughter (8) is desperate for moon sand. Is it worth it. Is she too old? Reviews on Amazon aren't very favourable.

it's terrible, terrible stuff.

ours is hidden away forever. the colours get mixed up (very upsetting for my 3 yr old!) it gets everywhere, it's virtually impossible to get out of the moulds.
we have a farm set and it barely came with enough sand to fill up the barn, let alone anything else. we had to purposely mix the colours hence the upset 3 yr old

no its rubbish, well its cool for about 5 mins then you realise its starting to go everywhere and it tends to float on teh surface in a slick.

No - it's really messy and hard to clean up 'cos it repels water.

I like the way it moulds but colours got mixed up straight away and looks like something revolting out of hoover bag.

DD got some for her 3rd birthday. I'm not a fan for all the reasons listed before. We've managed to avoid getting the colours mixed but only by me avoiding her playing with it. She does like it, though.

I think the ad very misleading - the moulded stuff in real life doesn't look much like it does in the ad.

Let's not get Moon Sand confused with Magic Sand. Moon sand is the mouldable sand that you press into shapes. Magic Sand is the stuff that you can supposedly mould in water.

I had Moon Sand for DS when he was about 5. It should have been the perfect gift - very crafty child, could play with play-doh for hours, etc.

The colours do get mixed and end up grey, and it's much messier than play-doh. It is quite fun but not nearly as easy to mould as the adverts suggest - if you press the sand in hard enough to make the shape properly, it's really hard to get out. Fun-ish, but ours went to the charity shop eventually because it just didn't get played with.

And Magic Sand - don't even get me started. It's literally the worst toy ever for a zillion reasons.

it is definitely MORE messy than playdough.
I would go for playdough any day over moon sand

no its rubish, we bought it last year, its nothing like it is on the tv ad, play-doh is 10 times better.

moon sand is easy enough to sweep up the remains of and chuck that what youve not saved cleaning up, it kind off sticks to itself, however tis pants and i hide it from my dd. spent a fortune on different colours that are now 1 hideous shade of yuck and the moulds, you make them they crumble instantly, save your money!

NEVER LET THIS PRODUCT IN YOUR HOUSE. IT IS THE WORK OF THE DEVIL.

My DS received moon sand as a gift last Christmas, it is AWFUL. I didn't mind the mess and the colours getting mixed immediatley, the worst thing is it just doesn't do what it is supposed to do. It stuck to all the moulds, if it did come out the moulds it then fell apart. I am surprised it is still on the go to be honest.
We through it out and kept the moulds to be used with his playdoh.

Don't waste your money; like bernard, we chucked it out at the earliest opportunity, which was about 8.30pm on Christmas day..utter shite.

Ds (sn 9 very messy!) loves moonsand and I find it easier to cleanup (the important bit!!)than playdough because it doesn't stick to carpet/shoes/clothes and can be vacuumed out of the cracks between floorboards! The trick is to have storage containers (it comes in bags!!) and a palette knife to scrape it up - and be prepared to loose some each time it is used! Ds loves making mini sandcastles. Keeps him busy. Sand sensations on the other hand is difficult to cleanup!

NOnono - sand all over house! Ours doesn't mould like it thinks it should.

Thanks so much for all your advice. Definitely not going to get moonsand. Was only considering it as the only other present dd wants is the remote controlled tarantula...

So many kids are not getting enough fine motor finger movement experience...I think moon sand hits the mark. Kids learn to be clean and tidy by learning how to handle mess.

oh its pants. The biggest waste of money ever! DD played with it once and that was it, so i happily threw it out! made such a mess, impossible to clean up.
