Right, been doing a few experiments today, I've found about 160 for about 6 mins is best for my crayons (Woolies value, but crap and any longer makes loads of oil sit on the top and ruin one side).

Did 6 in a little muffin tray, and been doing a few others in ramekins for my butterfly cutter, will try to post the pics later!

You definately get a pretty side and an average side...

gonna keep this bumped so i remember to do it with dd1 when when we find all her crayons

Lotster · 12/11/2008 14:25

Ok my efforts ae now on my profile!

Only shown the bottoms as they're more interesting, the tops seemed to have blended in to one colour a lot more...

J2O · 12/11/2008 14:28

Any advice on using the cutter method? Are they easy to cut once cold?

NCbirdy · 12/11/2008 23:13

I think you are supposed to let them cool untill they are cool enough to hndle but still soft. I would think, if you let them cool altogether, they could be a bit brittle to cut effectivley?

Lotster · 13/11/2008 15:28

I did the butterflies in individual ramekins - leaving them on the windowsill until fairly firm, then I pushed the cutter in and left in there whilst freezing them for 10 mins. When you take them out, a pull on the cutter brings the whole disc out of the ramekin, I then snapped the outside bits off and push the shape out of the cutter.

If you did it in a tray I'd maybe just let it dry on the side and test with your finger, when it's firm but not hard, press the cutter in all over then freeze maybe? The shapes would probably stay there without the cutter left in I'm sure.

Right. They're not melting v well and I'm getting a brown sludge colour. Suggestions from those of you who had such success!

Chrysanthamum · 01/12/2008 13:26

I just got round to trying them. They came out v thin though, some are lovely and bright some are a bit sludgy. They're way too thin to use as crayons but are v pretty. What could I use them 4? I'd like to give them away as decorations but am not sure how they could be hung. Any ideas?

What about just putting them in a small bowl - I think they are lovely too look at too or wrap in clear celophane and tie to the christmas tree or around the house.
