Bought some DK wool today to make ds3 a jumper, thinking I would have a DK pattern at home. I do not, or at least, not in his size.

I have spent last hour googling, trying to find an online pattern, but all I can find are patterns for adults, fancy patterns for children or links to ebay to buy patterns.

Trying to rope dh into helping me search but thought it would be easier to ask here.

These are the requirements:

Pattern must be for DK wool.

Ds3 is 5 years old so looking for something that covers his age, preferably 5-6, I think 24" chest.

A plain design or a cable design, but nothing too fancy as the wool is multicoloured.

Pattern must be downloadable and free.

Thanks is you can help. My memberhsip of Ravelry can't come soon enough!

DO, my saviour! I was going to ask that (about increasing sizes). I have been thinking about this all night (when awake, you know, not in my dreams!)

I have remember one more book I have which is a book of patterns and techniques with basic sizings. It is not for DK wool but I think I might be able to use it. I am going to have some breakfast now and get the children ready for the day and then I am going to devote some more time to this problem.

Nah, you won't be out of your depth. I'm on there and have not progressed beyond scarves, dishcloths and blanket squares yet.
There are Dr Who groups you know .

Is this the yarn here? Click for the shadecard.
Have you got the bluey green one?

DumbledoresGirl · 28/10/2008 09:24

If you click on the yarn shades, mine is 4990 yellow orange green purple, but I can't see how to display that.

www.knitting-crochet.com/chipulovirikni.html
www.knitting-crochet.com/vneckboy.html no picture though.
www.modadea.com/patterns/LM0124.htm bit difficult to see neckline though
aww.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=48993&subsectionname=craftclassics plain stocking stitch with ties at neck
knitty.com/ISSUEfall06/PATTsherwood.html this was lovely but the gauge is 24sts
knitty.com/issuesummer05/PATTripley.html with instructions to size it for whatever size you need!
www.allaboutyou.com/craft/Knitting-patterns-child-boat-sweater/v1 lovely but 20sts per 4inches
a few more ideas hopefully

Thanks so much Fikelly. I like virtually all those patterns and I am going to save this thread so I can come back to some of the ideas at a later date.

Meanwhile, I have spent all morning fiddling around with the wool and decided it really can't take any patterning. The colours of the wool just hide it all. I am disappointed as I like doing cable work and making patterns with the stitches, but OTOH knitting stocking stitch will be quicker. There is one pattern I found involving slipping stitches (it makes a holey pattern) which might work, otherwise, it will be stocking stitch all the way.

And the good news is, the book of patterns I forgot about last night contains a basic pattern for a jumper aged 5-6 which I can use (it is not for DK but the wool thickness is near enough the same). So the search is over.

Now off to do some housework, having fiddled with the wool all morning!

Thanks again all, and if you are on Ravelry, I may post a picture of the final product when I finish.

Yes i'm on ravelry come and join the mumsnet group... you'll find a few of us from here on there [http://www.ravelry.com/groups/mumsknitters. It can be a bit overwhelming to start with but you soon get used to it!

Glad you're sorted for a pattern & would love to see finished jumper. Looks like lovely yarn to use too.
