Yay - look at that! Well done, @Mumtothreeandadog - onwards and upwards!

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 07/03/2023 12:45

Yay! Well done, @Mumtothreeandadog - that is way neater then my first granny square!

Those socks are gorgeous, @GlowWine

PS - I've given up trying to remember to name change, I didn't realise it was a feature at the time. I'll stay here as Quantum, but I'll be Lancre on the next thread.

Nice @Mumtothreeandadog!

Oh I really like that fairy Glen pattern @GlowWine! I have that magazine checked out of the library at the moment, you could easily finish the cable at the cuff and use 1x1 ribbing instead.

I’ve been looking for similar patterns to you by the sounds of it, I haven’t settled on one yet but this is a contenter www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cropped-cardi-8 although I’d make a not cropped version.

GlowWine · 08/03/2023 08:01

@SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound Your linked pattern looks striking but yes, cropped style is definitely out for me. Not sure I'd have the confidence to adapt that one to full length. Although cropped style would solve my yarn woes 😆. I've not yet had time to rummage round the independent wool shop nor JL in town but my visit to hobbycraft made me decide that I need a complementing colour for the cuffs, rather than a nearly "matching" one since it will never be a perfect match, not even near the main shade... And I've given up on finding pure wool I think, because matching via online shops is even harder so I'm slightly limited to what's in the physical shops. Two pics from yesterday: the light tweedy one is a definite NO (on many points), the mink one is currently the closest contender. Maybe I should go for a drastically different colour like purple?

Personally, I like a contrast, @GlowWine. If you're doing one, I wouldn't just do the cuffs in the contrast, I would also do the welt and any button bands too, and possibly a thin stripe just above the cuffs. That way it looks more deliberate than 'I didn't have enough yarn'

OP posts:
GlowWine · 08/03/2023 15:25

Agree @QuantumWeatherButterfly definitely cuffs and button band (which is a pain in at least one of the designs because it's integral not added later), and also what I have just learned is called "welt" 😀

DH’s friend and his wife are having a baby in July, it’s a little girl. I’d picked this blanket in very similar colours, except the green has the ombré effect. I’ve bought this yarn. I’m now doubting myself that it’s not girly enough. I don’t think DH’s friend and his wife are too bothered by having girls in pink, I think the baby might be dressed in band shorts as soon as possible. What do you think? The other option is I could use some scrap wool in purple and bright blues, maybe a yellow of I can find it, and replace the green with those. I’m not buying yarn so I’ve got to worn with what I’ve got.

MerylSqueak · 08/03/2023 21:11

I think that yarn is gorgeous @WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally . I would have loved it.

I love the back on that cardi @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound

Lovely square @Mumtothreeandadog

Fairislefandango · 08/03/2023 22:23

I love that yarn, @WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally - would definitely have happily had that for dd!

I've been working on MIL's hat this evening. It's the same pattern as one I made for myself, but I'm using dk held double instead of aran, and it's cone out a bit more solid and chunky as a result. It also looks like the rows are a bit taller, so I'm wondering to do one less cable pattern repeat. MIL also has a pretty small head! It looks grey in the photo, but it's actually a soft blue.

I’m not sure what I want to make next. I’m currently joining some granny squares I’ve made but they don’t quite make a blanket yet. There is an actual wool shop in the nearest town but haven’t had a chance to visit yet (there’s a fabric shop and a craft workshop too so am spoiled!) so maybe a browse of some actual wool with inspire me.

Fairislefandango · 10/03/2023 23:16

I've just cast on dd's jumper. 'Alder Pullover' in a dark green. It calls for a tubular cast-on, which I've never done before but doesn't seem too tricky. Gives a nice edge apparently.

StillNiceCardigan · 11/03/2023 07:04

The dark green sounds lovely @Fairislefandango.

I’m going to make another granny square blanket as this house seems to have lots of places to put them. I’ve already got a crazy crochet lady vibe going on with one of the sofas with all my brightest blankets on it.

Fairislefandango · 11/03/2023 17:25

I've got a pile of crochet squares that I occasionally add to, @StillNiceCardigan. Theoretically I'll eventually make them into a blanket Grin

I've finished the tubular cast-on. It's a bit of a faff compared with normal casting on (it takes 5 rows to complete), but it makes a really nice edge!

WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally · 13/03/2023 10:34

My next instalment in the dye craft toft subscription today. I’ve not opened it though because I have some vomiting bug and don’t want to touch my nice yarn until I’m over it. I’m not sure whether to ask DH for him to email the pattern to me so I can see or just wait until I’m better as something to look forward to. So I’m off work today but can’t crochet.

lucysmam · 13/03/2023 17:41

@WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally sorry to see you're ill too 😢 I've spent pretty much the last 5 days snuggled up in my blanket and pillow fort with some sort of vomiting bug too, presumably picked up at work. Thankfully work & my colleagues are understanding, but I never take time off & feel awful that everyone's days will have been slightly harder work.

WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally · 14/03/2023 10:03

@lucysmam Urgh 5 days! I hope you start to feel better soon. When there are so many bugs going round at the minute, it’s hard not to catch some. Your colleagues will understand.

Fairislefandango · 16/03/2023 21:07

Oh no - sorry to hear you're both ill! Look after yourselves Flowers

WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally · 17/03/2023 22:34

Hope you’re feeling better now @lucysmam

It’s DH’s birthday this weekend and I am doing a jumper for him. It wasn’t going to be finished anyway but I looked at it and it was looking too big. I’ve just tried the half completed jumper around him and it’s way too big. Urgh. So no present for DH. Now do I frog it or fatten him up?

VittysCardigan · 19/03/2023 10:14

Not been on for a while. Hope everyone is recovering from their bugs. My latest project, 27 days start to finish. Supposed to be a stash buster but barely made a dent. Also found this UFO octopus when sorting my stash so got him finished too.

Fairislefandango · 19/03/2023 10:51

Oh sorry about your dh's jumper, @WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally - I always really fret about sizing! I have no confidthings will fit, even if I've swatched!

@VittysCardigan - great stuff, I love both of those! I really like making blankets, but I just don't need any more of them around the house tbh.

I was shopping in town locally yesterday and discovered that a shop I've never paid much attention to, which sells vaguely alternative, ethnic jewellery, clothes and gifts etc also stocks yarn... and fibre for spinning (which my lical yarn shops don't at all)! So I bought this (even though I really don't need any atm!).

VittysCardigan · 19/03/2023 10:57

Thank you @Fairislefandango I also have more blankets than I need. This one has been given to a friend of my daughters along with the octopus.

MerylSqueak · 20/03/2023 21:42

Oh bit it's so pretty @Fairislefandango !

What a pain @VittysCardigan . What did you decide?

How are you ? @lucysmam

I am tentatively knitting two rows a day (although they are 200 odd stitches. My arm is tingling after that but at least it's something. I'm going to try and decipher my first Drops pattern at the weekend so wish me luck!

MerylSqueak · 20/03/2023 21:46

i love that wool @Fairislefandango and that pattern is pretty@MerylSqueak

Im going to the Stitch festival in Islington on Sunday , I really am going to be good and not buy too much!
I recently donated lots of wool and my old needles to my dcs old school , and i really dont want to buy just for the sake of it.
Im still working on DS quilt and have about 10 squares to go, but Lovecrafts have run out the colour again and I need black to do the edges
