Oo @bruffin I am envious of the whole thing - Iceland, the shop, the wool. Was it all wonderful?

Yes @MerylSqueak
We did have an amazing time , we did a road trip round the south coast ending up at diamond beach. There was a really lovely wool shop in Rekyavik but it was very very expensive, then we found Hespa and i had to buy some hand dyed wool. I also found a wool shop in Hella that sold the Istek
I also discovered Addi Crasy Trio sock needles in there which i really like

StillNiceCardigan · 28/02/2023 08:02

@bruffin the Iceland trip sounds brilliant (and of course the yarn buying)

No fancy yarn cupboard for me at the moment my stash is in one of these boxes.

@bruffin I went to Iceland with university. I did geography and honestly it was just 10 days of a bunch of 20 year old geography students geeking out constantly! It was so beautiful, I’m desperate to go back. This was before I was crocheting so I hadn’t even twigged about the Icelandic wool! Definitely need to go back… I just won’t tell DH I’ll be buying yarn while I’m there!

@StillNiceCardigan fingers crossed you find your stash soon. Although maybe it’s better you find it at the end of unpacking so that you actually unpack. Was all the stress worth it in the end?

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 28/02/2023 09:27

Everyone I know seems to be going to Iceland at the moment, and they have all had a wonderful time. I am very jealous, @bruffin! And that set is so gorgeous, I love the pink/natural combination.

@StillNiceCardigan I am so pleased you are in! Make yourself unpack absolutely everything - there are still boxes in our loft from when we moved in 8 years ago! I am on a decluttering mission this year, so they will get dealt this in the next few months (now that I can actually get to them!). Though this mission does not include my stash, obviously, which currently lives in plastic boxes just piled in our bedroom, much to DH's annoyance.

@WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally it was worth all the stress in the end. Friday was super stressful as we had to wait till 4pm to complete with the removal vans parked outside for three hours!

@QuantumWeatherButterfly we’ve been good at unpacking so far but we do have two outbuildings that may have quite a bit of “don’t know where that should go” stuff in them. Won’t of sight out of mind!

Sirzy · 28/02/2023 14:26

Here we go. My online tutor says I am doing too many trebles on one side. She resent my photos back with arrows showing me but I just don't see it when I'm crocheting. I have tried counting aloud, but I'm like was that 2 or 3 I got too. Honestly shouldn't be this difficult. Feel like giving up as just not getting the hang of it. Counting to 3 should not be this difficult!! Grrr

CrochetBug · 01/03/2023 07:54

Ah yes @Mumtothreeandadog you've got an extra stitch in the left hand side of the second photo. I vaguely remember putting a stitch marker in every corner when I did my first granny square. Then I could easily see where the corner were and count 3 stitches between them.

Do you know anyone IRL who can crochet and help you? If you live anywhere near me (Berkshire) I'd be happy to help.

And I'm the same with knitting. I know how to do it, i just can't. So fucking annoying.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 01/03/2023 10:03

@Mumtothreeandadog As CrochetBug says, there are 4 stitches down the left hand side. I've edited your picture to try and show this more clearly.

When you know what you are looking for, treble crochet stitches are easy to count - you are looking for the posts of the stitch, which I think of as legs, joining the ring of v-shapes at the top to the row underneath of the stitch.

Looking at it like that, I've numbered the posts for you (including your chain 3, which counts as a stitch), so hopefully you can see where you have one too many.

Thank you CrochetBug I live in Oxfordshire, so close to Berkshire. I shall putting stitch markers in the corners (is that basically I the chains once I have done them?)

Thank you QuantamWeatherButterfly your photo is really helpful with the numbers on it. I just seem to lose the ability to count when I'm crocheting!!!!

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 01/03/2023 21:23

I really really struggled with learning crochet @Mumtothreeandadog until I did this pattern and then it clicked for me www.mooglyblog.com/artfully-simple-infinity-scarf/
Making hundred of crochet chains seemed to make it finally sink into my brain! Yours is more complicated than that!

Congratulations on your new home @StillNiceCardigan! I hope you have many happy crafting hours in it Smile

That’s pretty @Sirzy! It’s nice and springlike even if the weather is remaining stubbornly in winter…

I’ve joined a mystery knit a long as I had the yarn needed and I hadn’t been able to use it for what I originally intended so I thought it would be a good stash buster. I’m waiting impatiently for the next bit to be revealed…

Fairislefandango · 01/03/2023 21:30

Heyyyy - I lived in Oxfordshire, quite close to Berkshire until I moved up here to Cumbria 8 years ago!

CrochetBug · 01/03/2023 21:30

@Mumtothreeandadog Yes the chains are the corners. If you know where the corners are it might help to see how many trebles you've done.

I'm in Reading, so pretty much the Berkshire/Oxfordshire border (not that I can drive)

Everyone else, good luck with houses, congrats on jobs and gorgeous work all. Sorry, I've lost track of who's doing what. Grin

Fairislefandango · 01/03/2023 21:32

@Sirzy - I love your shawl!

WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally · 02/03/2023 08:37

@Mumtothreeandadog it happens surprisingly frequently that people cannot count to 3. If you join a FB group it will probably only be a week before you see a post from a seasoned crocheter who has only done one treble instead of the 3 they are meant to do!

Mumtothreeandadog · 02/03/2023 14:01

CrochetBug I am close to you as I live near Oxford 😀

My online tutor is making me feel a bit dim for not being able to count to 3 WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally !!

lucysmam · 02/03/2023 20:09

My props for tomorrow (WBD) at school are all ready. No idea why we're doing it tomorrow rather than today 🤷‍♀️

I'm now going to sit and close all my stitch markers while waiting for news about Grandad, who is waiting for an ambulance, and debate some more whether to take the plunge & buy the top pattern and yarn. I need to look for something chenille/velvet, & blue with sparkle, to make a crochet willy that's been requested by dd1's friend, after seeing Dick Deer, too.

I really like where I live now, but I really miss Oxford Sad

WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally · 05/03/2023 10:57

@lucysmam i hope your grandad is ok.

We went into town yesterday and our local yarn shop has closed. I was in there a week ago (not buying yarn because I’m doing well on not buying yarn this year, but getting DDs lost comforter) and they didn’t have any signs up to say they were closing. It’s sad. We moved here 6 years ago and town had 3 yarn shops and now there are none. You can still buy yarn from the lady on the market when she’s on or in the toy shop but no dedicated yarn shop. I have checked to see if there is a yarn shop in the town were moving to, so hopefully that one will be able to stay open.

GlowWine · 06/03/2023 19:31

@WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally yes that's so sad, a sign of the times. My 'local' yarn shop in the small parade of shops closed many years ago, along with the greengrocer and eventually the baker. Now we still have a postoffice+convenience store and multiple takeaway/fast food type businesses in their place. We have one yarn shop left in the centre, there used to be two, plus we still have John Lewis and Hobbycraft.

On a happier note, I have finally finished my socks, and am starting to plan the recycled cardigan, and how to add/match additional yarn. So I'll be touring the shops looking for a solution...
These are the kind of patterns I've got my eye on:
www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/greenleaf-cardigan
That's what I'm after in principle, a cabled cardigan, but would prefer more pattern on the back.

Not so sure about the cuffs on this second pattern though the yarn is a better match for what I have and I love the rest of the patter - maybe I could switch to ribbed cuffs?
