There are some lovely makes going on here!

Nearly finished DH's deckchair jacket. Just got to finish hemming the cuffs then I'm done. The fabric is a canvas which frays as soon as you look at it so had to do a lot of binding.

Some lovely work and inspiration here. @NutellaEllaElla i have the Mayfair dress on my to do list but it’s the one that keeps getting pushed down the list. It’s not really the sort of thing I wear day to day so I’m waiting for someone to invite me to something.

I’m away at the moment as DH is doing some pre-op isolating. We’re only an hour from home but it feels like a long way. I managed 100% me-made clothes yesterday, including underwear, and I felt fab! When I get back I want to make some denim shorts out of some stretch denim I picked up and I’m hoping to be able to get two pairs of different lengths out of the fabric.

NutellaEllaElla · 04/06/2022 09:05

Yeah I'm only interested in making things that I don't have much occasion to wear... I keep hoping that one day I'll have exhausted dress making and move onto something more everyday. I do actually have inspiration to make a long sleeved version of this t shirt but don't know how I would actually go about it seeing as I don't have a pattern.

Very impressive to even have made your own underwear!

Underwear is a great skill builder and it’s a good scrap buster too! I’ve got a pile of old T-shirts that are destined to become knickers and another Barrett bralette will definitely be made

Been a while since I was on here. I’m at my wits end with sewing today. Had to change the thread in my overlocker and now that’s not working. Moved on to some shirring and I can’t get the tension right at all. I’ve done it before but think that was my previous machine. Need to step away for a bit.

Love the photos.

Gizzy93 · 04/06/2022 12:24

I love making underwear! I make my own period panties as well. I'm actually planning on cutting it some pairs of undies for myself and my partner tonight while I'm on night shift with nothing to do.

I do love that Sugaro top, it's lovely!

I so want to love shirring. Tutorials tell me how easy peasy it is and I love the easy fit and look. I couldn't figure it out very well when I attempted it though! The tension was a big nightmare, my Brother machine needed specific adjustment and I hate messing with the mechanics of the machine, i'm too afraid of it!

I feel for your machine related woes Wilderness.

I got some undies cut on my night shift last night. 3 pairs for my DF, two pairs for me and 6 pairs of period panties but I'm hoping I won't need those lol

I finished the Saguaro top and I really love it. I did make a mistake and topstitched the elastic 1/8" from the edge when it should have been 3/8". I did unpick most of it but gave up in the end as it was painstaking and I had to do one stitch at a time. I've had to tell myself it is a toile and not be too precious. It's at the back as well so I won't notice it and it's a ruched effect as well so not that noticeable. Waiting on my fabric delivery from Poundfabrics to make the full set. I've read a few report on here so hoping I get the right stuff!

Wildernesstips · 05/06/2022 15:50

Finally finished the sundress. I ditched the shirring and went back to elastic in casing which is what the original pattern says anyway. Just need the weather now!

Such a pretty dress!

The burrito collar thing on the Mayfair dress is beating me, even WITH a sewalong! 😩 I might stop for today.

I’ve never done a burrito method. Good luck with that.

SBAM · 05/06/2022 19:23

@Wildernesstips that is the epitome of a sundress - fingers crossed for the weather to wear it soon!

I’ve made a start on pattern adjustments for my BHL Jenna top - traced the pattern, done an FBA then split the darts. Tonight I’m going to toile it and see if it’s worked. This has really reminded me of why I like sewing children’s clothes with jersey - so much easier and more forgiving to fit than wovens.

GnomeDePlume · 05/06/2022 22:35

@NutellaEllaElla a burrito yoke or collar? I have done a burrito yoke. I think it is simply a case of blind faith as it is a bit of a magic trick: stitch, stitch, roll, stitch, stitch, pull. Ta da! a completed yoke (or a rabbit/bunch of flowers if the roll step got out of hand). Dont try to understand the moves just do them!

NutellaEllaElla · 06/06/2022 06:44

It's a collar. I'm hoping fresh eyes will help because as it was yesterday, I didn't understand what I was supposed to be sewing together.

That sounds tricky. This is why I suggested a stand collar for DH's jacket. I looked at all the instructions, read all the blogs for a fold down collar and decided that it was beyond me!

Jins · 06/06/2022 09:07

i haven’t made a collar for a while apart from the stand collar on DHs shirt. A burrito collar sounds fearsome.

We’re heading home today and after looking very critically at all my recent makes I’ve decided that I really need to get to grips with the method for a broad back adjustment. It’s not been terribly noticeable on the sleeveless tops I usually make but when I made the sleeved blouse recently it hit home that the fit wasn’t great. So I’m going to spend some time working out what needs to be done to stop my tops looking like they are meant to be racer back 🤣

Denim shorts first though. They are needed.

Gizzy93 · 06/06/2022 10:31

I love the burrito method, can't imagine doing it on something as small as a collar 🙈

The fabric I ordered for my new baby nieces blanket arrived today, I also went out and got fabric to make her stuffy. I forgot the stuffing though 🙄

GnomeDePlume · 06/06/2022 12:24

I imagine it needs tiny hands like the shoemaker's elves!

I made another scrub top over the weekend. This time I added a placket. So far I have made 12 garments from the same pattern. I do like to get my money's worth!

Wildernesstips · 07/06/2022 18:19

I really like the contrast fabric you have used Gnome

Jins · 10/06/2022 08:22

@GnomeDePlume I’m sure you’ve said which pattern you use for your ‘scrubs’ top but could you let me know which one it is? I’m a big fan of a V neck sleeveless top and I’m not 100% happy with ones I’ve made already. (Although to be fair it’s probably more to do with my broad back issue)

I've not done much sewing as DH has been home but I’ve done a few repairs and I’ve made a tie belt for the linen trousers I made last year as when I came back and stitched through the elastic it stretched a bit and if I dare put anything in the pockets I’m in fear of the trousers falling down.

I picked up a Jeans pattern on sale a while ago and I plan to make denim shorts but I can tell from the line drawing that I’m going to need to do a lot of grading and my first sway back adjustment.

GnomeDePlume · 10/06/2022 08:38

@Jins it's Simplicity 1446. It's a very adaptable pattern and quite easy to size up or down at key points. I like that it is sleeveless so there's a good quantity of shoulder coverage.

I am using the plus sizing group and then adding more sizes to that.

Jins · 10/06/2022 09:18

Thanks. That’s a wardrobe in one pattern isn’t it?

Gizzy93 · 10/06/2022 11:08

I got excited about being able to sew and overlocked the front part of my undies on backwards 🥴
I think I might start on my new bag tomorrow. I've got the fabric cut out, just have to cut out the fusible fleece and interfacings.
