A cape for Death of Rats

What fabric can I use to make a hooded cape for my rat skeleton (plastic!) to turn him into Death of Rats?

It needs to be weatherproof as he'll be out on the woods.

Some kind of vinyl/plastic but not the sort with the woven fabric back as I think that would go manky. A thick bin bag might do it... 🤔

Does it need to move? If not then you can buy Vinyl sheeting in various thicknesses, about 3mm max should do it without it being too awkward to work with.

A cheaper option would be a rubble sack. Thicker than a bin bag.

God I love Mumsnet, I'm never sure what's going to be posted next Grin

SQUEAK.

SoupDragon · 20/09/2021 11:35

I thought rubble sick but the ones I have to hand are blue. That's definitely the right sort of weight.

@FGSWhatNow, that's pretty much why I posted the question. I could have probably worked it out for myself eventually but it's such a great random question 😂😂

Rubble SACK obviously 🤦🏻‍♀️

I'd like to make him a little scythe too. What to make the blade out of though... 🤔 Maybe one of those grey plastic ready meal containers.

I'm not sure a plastic based fabric would look right. It probably won't hang right, and would look very stiff, not robe like. Could you just use some cheap, suitable fabric, then nikwax it?

SoupDragon · 20/09/2021 11:44

He's going to be out in the woods permanently so it needs to be long lasting. Possibly something like ripstop nylon would work.

Is it worth having a browse in the local charity shops and picking up a cheap (kids size) waterproof coat or something similar and using the fabric from that?

SoupDragon · 20/09/2021 14:01

I have ordered some ripstop nylon but it did occur to me that I should have looked in the Halloween aisle of the pound shop for a kids cape or something. It would have been right next to the rat skeletons... 🤦🏻‍♀️

It seems I've given away all the Kids' old costumes now.

I love him. Please post a pic of him in situ when you can.

SQUEAK.

SoupDragon · 24/09/2021 13:38

I can't decide whether to send him out now or wait for Halloween.

It's not specifically for Halloween, it's a Geocache 😂

That's amazing 😁😁🐀🐀

Put him out now! It's practically October, and Pterry is for life, not just for... you know.
SoupDragon · 24/09/2021 17:40

😂

OP posts:
Coldhandscoldheart · 24/09/2021 17:41

Omg! Where is the geocache!?

SoupDragon · 24/09/2021 17:54

Well, it's on my kitchen table right now 🤣

It'll be in the Croydon area though.

SoupDragon · 24/09/2021 17:54

He's just sitting on the box

FGSWhatNow · 28/09/2021 08:34

I love it!

SoupDragon · 28/09/2021 08:43

For various reasons, he's still sitting on my kitchen table.

One of those reasons is absolutely not because I love him 😂

You may need a second one so you can keep that one! He is brilliant.

crankysaurus · 28/09/2021 09:59

That's ace! I love the thought that he'll be haunting the woods and making all the rats nervous.

I did have the foresight to buy 3 of the skeletons and plenty of fabric 😂

I love him. I am shamelessly placemarking in the hope we will get an in-situ picture.
