Gah.. having difficulties with my internet.

I need to move the bust darts on my coat - the new dart point is where the pink arrow is pointing. Do I adjust using the blue or green lines in my photo?

Thanks!

Ah, I see you found the new thread already.

I don't have the experience to answer your question, but my go to (after this lovely lot Smile) is . What she don't know, ain't worth knowin' I reckon.

I’d go with the green lines. I find the Lifting pins and needles YouTube channel useful for fitting tips as well

I think she’s done a few on bust dart adjustment

Drinkingallthewine · 03/06/2021 18:35

Thanks Jins and NutellaEllaElla Smile

Finished DD jersey shorts after getting the side seam with binding wrong 3 times. Just made some with sweatshirt fabric for DS and hoping they will wear them on our weekend away.

NutellaEllaElla · 04/06/2021 10:25

Well done spouse! How long do these projects take you, do you think?

I am planning my next make, which is a denim dress. The pattern includes a full lining as well as facings, which I think would be too much for a heavy fabric so i'm intending to skip the lining. I was wondering about doing the facing in a lighter, different fabric too, but then i wasn't not sure because it might show. What would you do?

Basting my place. Am thinking about a maxi dress for my next project, have some really large flowered cotton that might be nice, but now the weather has turned again maybe I should make some more trousers

I’ve just had another poundametre delivery. I’m really pleased with it. Now to match it to patterns

kittykarate · 04/06/2021 12:55

I've had some good usable stuff from poundametre. Shame their deliveries are a bit on the slow side, and sometimes the descriptions are not always detailed enough on stretch fabrics, but that's a common complaint with all companies.

Jins · 04/06/2021 13:19

I’ve not been disappointed with poundametre. As you say it’s slow and jersey is a bit hit and miss but the viscose has been good and I’ve had some lovely cottons. Flash20 gets 20% off site wide at the moment in case anyone is interested

PickAChew · 04/06/2021 14:50

Green line but remember that the stitching, not the cut needs to end at, or just short of, the apex.

Here endeth my place mark. Done no sewing at all, this week. Bloody half term.

Drinkingallthewine · 04/06/2021 15:16

Thanks PickAChew.
My coat has been put back on Dolly, I've too much DIY to do this weekend to sew as well. The next bit I'm doing is the collar on the toile - I know it's not needed for a toile, but I've never done a collar before, let alone one that is a notched, tailored one. So I want the time and mental bandwidth to go slow and practice before I cut into my beloved boiled wool.

Speaking of beloved wool, is there anyone else that happily sighs while running their hand over beautiful fabric imagining what it will grow up to be? Or even has fabric too beautiful to use? Or am I just a weirdo?

kittykarate · 04/06/2021 16:20

I've just spotted your denim dilemma @NutellaEllaElla - I think if you 'own' the contrast in the facings and make it deliberate it would be fine. Or maybe re-think the weight of denim you're using for the full dress - there's a lot of variation out there. You could use a chambray to lighten up the weight to make it more summery?

PickAChew · 04/06/2021 17:24

I spend a lot of time fondling and sniffing fabric and nice yarn/wool. I don't bother with anything that isn't generally pleasurable to handle, in some way. My sewing and knitting time is limited, as it is (in fact, no knitting happened, last winter. I need more woollen socks as most of the ones I have are worn out but my hands aren't having any of it)

Ulysses · 04/06/2021 17:50

Chalk marking my spot. Wink

I’m assembling the PDFs for the culottes then I’ll need to unpick my current pair.

I’m also knitting a cardigan for my friend’s baby and I need to hurry up and focus on getting it finished before he grows out of it.

NutellaEllaElla · 04/06/2021 22:05

Thanks Kitty, think i'll give it a go in the same fabric and see how it is. i might be worrying unduly.

I haven't quite finished the toile for my denim dress, just need to attach the facings, but I can see that it is a little sack like at the waist. How would you address this in the pattern? Just take it in a bit at the waist line?

Coming to place mark! Today I wore the first dress I ever made, and laughed as the bust line is too high and it’s tight around the ribs so the zip doesn’t work. So it didn’t last long but I love the style so will have to make another and actually make it fit 😁

I’ve never actually adjusted before so that’ll be fun

kittykarate · 06/06/2021 20:24

Boring basic top- jalie Gisele. One in short sleeve and one long. Used up the georgette from cheap fabrics.

Today I wore my peppermint mag button up dress when we visited friends. I still haven’t got round to my second one but I’m definitely going to move it up the list

Stretchandsnap · 07/06/2021 07:35

I love your top @kittykarate i have that fabric lurking somewhere too - will have to dig it out and use it as it looks great made up

Stretchandsnap · 08/06/2021 12:05

Wise ladies, I have a needle question - am using some ITY fabric and the machine is skipping stitches, I have changed to a jersey needle but that doesn’t seem to have helped - does anyone use a walking foot for this type of fabric or any top tips?

Jins · 08/06/2021 12:25

I use a walking foot nowadays. Occasionally a jersey foot (not sure if that’s the right name) but you can’t stitch at speed with it

Stretchandsnap · 08/06/2021 12:50

Thanks Jins- I got one with my new machine but I have never had cause to try it yet (all the gear and no idea!) I will dig out the manual later and give it a go
Ulysses · 10/06/2021 07:34

I got a walking foot recently @stretchandsnap and it's worthwhile using if you have one. Keeps the fabric firmly in place when stitching.

My culottes are finished at last and they are... okay. The pattern was really nice to use and it's quite novel that the pocket isn't fully enclosed so you can put them on that way rather than with a zip.

I do wish they were a bit longer so I might cut them into shorts. I'll definitely use the pattern again though as well as they are nicely tailored. I like my trousers to have pockets and it's a neat way of avoiding a zip or an elasticated waist which gathers the fabric and makes it a bit bulky.

My fabrics have come as well. The blue is fine but the red one isn't the colour I was hoping for and is an orangey red. The pattern is a bit larger too not quite the ditsy floral I was going for. I'll use it for toiling though.

Im hoping to cut out my BHL Jenna tonight and have it ready for wearing out on Sunday. It'll be the third one Ill have made so I'm hoping that this will work in my favour.
