Does anyone have a Cricut

I'm considering buying one and wondered if anyone had one and could share their views on if they use it often, if they love it or if they regret buying it.

I'm thinking of buying the Maker and my main interest is for card stock projects, felting projects and cutting thin wood for projects. Most of the online reviews etc focus on the vinyl decals which are less appealing for me.

I’ve got a Maker. I’ve had it for a year, I absolutely love it and use it all the time. Definitely no regrets using it, although it’s not a cheap hobby. There’s always something new to try.

I have the cricut joy, I wanted one of the others but it's more money than I had! But I made all of this except the soap, resin coaster and glitter glass with it, but the other glass I made a stencil and etched into the glass, I made the canvas bags and make up bags, the drink bottle and the card with it. They're not to everyone's taste which is fine but I'm happy with it :)

Can anyone help? My mother has unfortunately passed away leaving a lot of machines which seem to be older machines. Can anyone make use of them?

No she had a shopping problem! There’s about 8 machines

What machines are they?

You could look on eBay to see if any have sold recently and what for. Maybe a childminder might want one for craft time?

Cricut maker. I love it. I started my own card and gift business and now it's snowballing that it could become a career in another year. Best money I ever spent. Brilliant machine and easy to use the software. The possibilities are endless - I do some felt and wood cutting for the decoration on some of my cards too.

I'm sorry for your loss, they sell quite well on eBay or Facebook from what I've seen

I've had a variety of cricuts over the last 10 years and now have a maker. Use it mostly for card making and vinyl but wanted the potential to cut fabric/ tougher materials.
I don't subscribe to design space and tend to design my ow stuff or by individual svgs. Cricut have now back tracked on their idea of limiting uploads to design space.
Jennifer Maker is a good website using a range of materials and a lot of teaching videos.

I've got a maker which I use all the time (pay for design space too) I just use it for personal projects/ gifts. Be warned though it can get addictive (and expensive).
Watch out buying second hand, I've seen a lot of people being scammed recently. I bought mine as a bundle from Hochanda. Lots of good YouTube videos and Facebook groups to help you learn

I believe that if you buy one before the end of 2021 it remains free but after that the charging applies.

On paying for cricut software I'm pretty sure design space is free to use for everyone with a cricut machine, is that not right? I pay £7.99 per month for cricut access which gives me all fonts, images and ready made projects but that's because I use it for my business so don't want to be limited for example on using a particular font.
However, I'm pretty sure you can use design space for free which includes probably 30/40% of the fonts and image library free - if just hobby-ing this would be sufficient I think.

They recently said they were introducing a charge for something like over 20 uses per month. They have back tracked slightly on this.

@Sn0tnose @porridgeface part of what's holding me back is that I can see it's an expensive hobby. I've watched loads of YouTube's and saw quite a few hacks around how to make it a bit cheaper but they are all American focussing on the dollar store and I don't think Poundland is quite the same!!

I decided that if I counted 10 occasions when I thought to myself "if I had a cricut I could do that" then I would go for it and I'm up to 7 occasions so far... My main hobby is woodwork projects and I think it will be quite complementary.

Would be great to see any more pics of projects / items people have made with theirs!

I'm just hopping on cos I'm itching to buy one but the anger over the pay to use it saga is still incredibly strong (they've backpedalled for now) and the community seem convinced it'll come in at some point... and when you piss crafters off they're positively rabid.

I've just ordered the cricut maker and am so excited for it to arrive!

I plan on using it mainly to cut leather for jewellery as well as HTV for totes & t-shirts etc so the explorer air 2 would probably have been ok but I didn't want to have to upgrade again in a year or 2 if I wanted to try other materials etc.

I'm sorry - I shouldn't laugh - but she sounds exactly like my mum when it comes to crafting related purchases! I know whenever the time comes and we have to clear her belongings away - there's going to be like half the items ever listed on every crafting shopping channel, yarn that's been handed down from my gran to mum and I'll end up with (eww squeaky acrylic), more fat quarters than the average haberdashery and god knows what else!

I've got the Explore Air coming today. Still slightly wary of the cricut software issue in case they try that crap again, but seeing how rabid the crafters got last time - I'm not sure they will in a hurry (crafters when annoyed are bloody terrifying).

I quite often refer to crafting as "legitimised hoarding".

Can I butt in please? I was looking at the Air 2, or maybe just the little Joy as I mainly do cards. But the Amazon reviews have freaked me out a bit, saying the design area is a nightmare if you’re outside of America. But loads of you love it, so is there a way round that? TIA

DD is after a cricut, but they're expensive, you have to keep buying more materials, and we have nowhere to put the stuff she makes. She does make really lovely things by hand (very well executed, but her design ideas are still very obviously by a child) and thinks a cricut will allow her to sell her creations and become rich... well, give her some pocket money at least. I'm fairly certain she doesn't currently have any ideas that would sell, so I know this will just be a hobby thing, and we're already drowning under craft "stuff".
