how about little bags? Smallish, so could be used for a child, with something like tatting (circular tube done on a cotton reel with tacks knocked into the top, do you know what I mean?) for a handle. Could have pompoms or tassles for decoration. My DD would like something like that as a stocking filler and would be fairly quick to knit I think.

Little bags, (clutch type), definitely hats, skinny scarves made with slinky metallic yarn. (You can get met. yarn quite cheaply on ebay).

My mum used to knit loads of stuff for us - she made us just about every toy by Jean Greenhowe - is that the kind of thing you're after?

I have one of her books, and could scan and email patterns if you want? (Not all the toys are big - mum did me an excellent selection inc a monk, robin hood, caveman etc, all about 3in high)

How about matching bag and hat sets? If you say did little beanie hats and girly bags as I described before, in matching colours with matching motif? I am sure DD (and her friends would love a set.

The Jean Greenhowe stuff can be made with really cheap yarn - I made a load of them as little Christmas presents one year using Stylecraft yarn (you know, the stuff that's about £1.50 per ball!) and they went down really well.

In fact I just got all my books out and they are in fact designed for Stylecraft yarn!!

Really quick and easy to make too - I could knock up a toy or two decorations in an evening, no probs.
