I made all this a while ago and now don't know what to do with it! Does anyone know any websites I can sell it on?

There's a poster on here who is setting up a website for mums to sell crafts on, think her name is loopyredangel. I'll see if I can find the relevant post.

littlerach · 28/08/2007 19:48

Etsy.com.
It is an American site but British people sell there too.

loonylovegood · 28/08/2007 19:52

Thanks, I am looking at Etsy now, it looks good!

Just realised lra's site isn't live yet, but here's the link to the thread I mentioned.www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=2280&threadid=369941#7547496 in case you want to know.

You're welcome and btw your jewellery is gorgeous.

Browny · 28/08/2007 20:04

They are very pretty, are you selling them on mumsnet then, if you are how much are they please? .

loonylovegood · 28/08/2007 20:05

Just looked at Etsy and I don't have a credit card so I can't sell on there! Bugger!

Thank you RHW! I might try and sell some bits on here. Do you think it would sell?

Ooo browny, thanks! Which ones are you looking at?

Browny · 28/08/2007 20:07

They are all lovely, but I love the heart one, the spotty beads one and the last one .

rantinghousewife · 28/08/2007 20:08

Yes definitely, it will sell.

bubblerock · 28/08/2007 20:10

If you plan on making more then you can get a Mumzmall site for free as a WAHM

Browny · 28/08/2007 20:10

Oh, should have said the puff purple one .

rantinghousewife · 28/08/2007 20:12

See I love the greeny blue one, 2nd row down on the left, I have a dress (that I made) that would look excellent topped off by that.

I used to make jewellery in the days before internet sellling took off (1980s) and this is how I sold it:

I asked friends who had a market stall to display it on their stall - I paid a bit towards the cost of the stall hire. This can work well if you know anyone who will do this and you have an easy means of displaying your stuff.

I did lots of shopping research. I searched around for likely shops selling similar sorts of jewellery, gifts, crafts and clothes. Independent shops are best - not chain shops.

I took note of the name and address of the shop, went home, found their phone number in yellow pages and phoned up to speak to the manager. I outlined the sort of jewellery I made, askied them if they would be interested in selling some in their shop.

If so, I would arrange an appointment and bring along some samples. I found in over 50% of the cases the manager would be ok about having some of my jewellery to sell. The thing then was to get them to buy it from me as opposed to sale or return. This meant I had money up front and the shop had paid for the jewellery whether it sold or not. Shops of course will mark up the jewellery, so I had to sell it wholesale - about 1/2 - 1/3 of the retail cost.

So if you are scouting around looking at shops, you need to pick shops where you think your jewellery won't retail too cheaply otherwise the wholesale price you get will be tiny.

So look out for shops in upmarket or touristy areas - I found Brighton and Islington were really good, for instance.

I caught the train to Brightone one day with a box of jewellery I had made, went to some likely looking shops and sold the lot. Came home with over £300 cash on me! (this was in the eighties so seemed much more then). Liberty's department store in London is also a good place to sell to. I don't know if it is still true, but at the time, the buyers were happy to see unknown jewellery makers. They offered to buy some stuff of mine, but for too low a price. Wish though I had let them have it, as it would have been such a coup.

HTH and good luck!

Gingermonkey · 28/08/2007 20:28

very pretty stuff! I have a shop on etsy and as long as you are prepared to spend a lot of time on the forums promoting it is a great place to be. It's easy to set up and cheap to list on there. (mine are toy horses but there are loads of jewellary sellers)

loonylovegood · 28/08/2007 20:42

Wow, thanks everyone!

Tigermoth, great ideas! I shall do some research and see if I can get any shops to sell some.

Gingermonkey, I don't have a credit card, so can't use Etsy. I suppose I could use dp's, I'm sure he won't mind (or maybe I'll just not tell him )!

Bubblerock, I'm on that site now. Thanks!

Browny, the Millefiore (the coloured glass with flowers) bracelets would be £8 and the other braclets would be £10. I have loads more if there is a particular colour you are looking for, I also have matching earrings and necklaces for most of the bracelets! I went a bit mad making them and then got pg so never got time to sell them!!

Browny · 28/08/2007 20:48

Right.. think I'll have to choose just one then, can you tell me what colour/material the smaller beads are please? Oh, and I'd love to see matching necklaces and earrings too. Thanks .

loonylovegood · 28/08/2007 20:52

Browny the rest of the stuff is at my parents'. I can get it tomorrow and let you know what I've got. All the beads are glass and all the metal is silver plated, some shiny and some tarnished/antique looking.

OP posts:
loonylovegood · 28/08/2007 20:52

Sorry, the smaller beads are silver plated metal too.

OP posts:
Browny · 28/08/2007 21:10

Thanks, I'll look forward to seeing them .

Beauregard · 28/08/2007 21:16

Nice jewellery!

fawkeoff · 28/08/2007 21:19

i would love 2 of the pieces you have on there

Bubblemummy · 28/08/2007 21:46

Gingermonkey - can I ask for the name of your etsy shop? I love etsy, so much more fun than buying mass produced stuff!

loonylovegood · 28/08/2007 22:06

Hi fawkeoff, which bits did you like?

I'll try and put more on my pic trail tomorrow eve.
