Just back from hols where I have spent my evenings in a rustic french house, knitting and crocheting. Want to know what everyone is knitting, mainly because I'm incredibly nosy..

a jersey for dh. what have you been up to? pics please!

GreebosWhiskers · 25/08/2007 14:09

A caterpillar for ds & some baby legwarmers for dd3. I also have 2 balls of Noro Kureyon waiting to be transformed into cabled armwarmers for winter & some Laines Du Nord kid mohair & firenze waiting to become a scarf.

I've just finished knitting a felted vase & a set of male genitalia both for my auntie's 60th birthday bash last night - the vase was her proper pressie from me & the other was a joke pressie from my mum & other auntie.

I actually got an order for another set from a lady who spent the whole night cuddling my auntie's ones

rantinghousewife · 25/08/2007 19:30

That knitted genitalia sounds intriguing, to say the least, GB, would LOVE to see pics of that!!
Warthog, this is the knitting and the crochet is here and this is the close up.
Quite pleased with myself!! Now can we see yours?

I've just finished making a sweater for dd1 but I'm a bit disappointed in it tbh - I used this yarn from texere but I don't think it's going to keep its shape well - for once I think I am going to suffer for buying cheap yarn! Pattern was this one.

Yesterday and today I have knitted this hat and am about to make this tomato beanie - was hoping the penguin one would fit ds1 but it's too small! (and too big for ds2! ). Off to get out my circular needles that I bought today to do the beanie - haven't done much in the way of circular knitting so this could be interesting!

Other than that I am pricing up wool to knit another blanket like the one on my profile (only this time in cottons for a cot) - have been commissioned to produce this and am looking forward to starting it!!

Miaou · 25/08/2007 20:01

ranting, what is the knitting going to be? And what kind of yarn is it?

rantinghousewife · 25/08/2007 20:08

Opps, forgot to mention that!! Perhaps I was hoping you would all be psychic!!
It started life as a wendy strappy top but, I've changed it a bit, by putting shaping in at the waist, otherwise my small waist gets swamped (have generous hips you see) and will probably make the ribbing for the straps a bit wider, ribbing will also be chocolate, like the bottom. The wool is Wendy dk cotton (mercerised) which I love, it's so easy to knit with. In contrast, I'm crocheting the dress with Debbie Bliss cotton wool and to be frank, it's crap, really splitty and has probably put me off of ever purchasing DB wool tbh.
BTW, I love that blanket, that is so clever, how did you do it?

GreebosWhiskers · 25/08/2007 20:51

The blanket is gorgeous & I love the crochet top.

I didn't get pics of the genitalia as dd1 took the camera over to her dad's last week & left it there. I will be doing another soon tho' & will get pics of that (altho' not sure if MN will let me put them on profile lol). Now I just have to try & remember how I did it . . .

rantinghousewife · 25/08/2007 20:59

Next time GB, next time.. I look forward to seeing them

The blanket is made up of lots of squares - basically me using up my lifetime's collection of odds and ends of wool! I am proud to say it didn't cost me a penny to make . Some of the squares I took from here, some from this book and some from this one. Then I crocheted a shell border round the edge. It was great fun to make and didn't take as long as I expected (about three months, and I moved house in the middle!) - however I suspect the next one will take longer as I have had a baby since then!

ranting - shame about the db yarn - worries me slightly as that's what I'm planning to do my next blanket in! Very difficult to find any other yarn that comes in a big variety of bright colours. Having said that, it can't be as bad to work with as the provence cotton was - that was a nightmare! - but I survived that

rantinghousewife · 25/08/2007 21:57

Am in awe of you managing the blanket with a house move and a baby!! (grovels on knees and adopts 'we are not worthy' pose). Let me know how you get on with the next one.

GreebosWhiskers · 25/08/2007 22:18

Miaou - thanks for that link - what a brilliant site! Methinks a stash sort-through is in order . . .

rantinghousewife · 25/08/2007 22:24

Miaou, just out of interest, can you crochet with an afghan hook (tunisian crochet) and is it difficult?

OP posts:
Miaou · 26/08/2007 10:26

Fab isn't it Greenbos! Idreamofdaleks put me on to it. Instructions are really clear and easy to follow too.

Ranting - thanks for the compliments! Not sure I deserve them really. Have discovered I can feed ds and knit at the same time so I'm getting lots done atm

Tunisian crochet - not sure what that is!! Off to do some googling

Miaou · 26/08/2007 10:33

Aha now I know ...

Never tried it rantinghousewife - in fact I had never crocheted before doing that blanket, when I did a few crocheted squares and the edging. From looking at instructions on the web, though, I would say that if you can knit and you can crochet, then tunisian crochet would be fairly easy, as it builds on the skills learnt in both.

onlyWotz · 26/08/2007 10:54

ouww you clever lot

DutchOma · 26/08/2007 13:04

A Fair Isle cardigan for Gingermonkey's ds

elfinblast · 26/08/2007 13:09

A hairpin lace baby blanket for my friends baby which is due any day.

(So I should really be doing that, rather than faffing about on the internet)

Miaou · 26/08/2007 13:20

at people who can do lace - totally beyond me!!

Meridian · 26/08/2007 13:59

I;ve been knitting a noro scarf for what seems like ages among other non-knitting projects.. well mostly sketching but I'm trying. there are a few pics at the bottom of here I'm the first to admit that i'm totally beyond my depth when it comes to patterns so i have stayed in the woolen shallows or something.. i need coffee... maybe chocolate too

rantinghousewife · 26/08/2007 18:52

Thanks for that Miaou, am going to give it a try (the tunisian), thinking (like you) that it can't be that hard.
Hairpin lace!! How clever is that, frankly wish I was brave enough!!
And Meridan, the stuff on your blog is really clever, like the scarf, love the cute bag.

elfinblast · 27/08/2007 23:51

Maiou...
It's not lace.in the traditional sense, although you can do some very fine pieces, I'm using wool. You have a hairpin loom and crochet....oh its hard to explain but easy to do.
You make strips and join them together.

see here

kiskidee · 28/08/2007 00:01

kiskidee · 28/08/2007 00:05

GreebosWhiskers · 28/08/2007 09:58
