It took 6 blardy weeks (mainly 'cos I kept sidetracking myself lol) but 'tis finally done. dd's face when she saw it finished made all the crampy hands worthwhile

Fabulous!!

I'm very tempted to print of the dalek pattern and ask my mum to knit DSs one each... I am a huge disappointment to my mum and her mum as I am sadly lacking in knitting skills.

TheMaskedPoster · 13/08/2007 13:25

WOW - that is GOLD!

GreebosWhiskers · 13/08/2007 17:00

Oh, it's genuinely fantastic! I opened it thinking and was so stunned. Very amusing though to have a cuddly knitted Dr Who. YOu have unusual children

aloha · 14/08/2007 21:07

I am roffling a lot at the knitted dalek though. It's hard to be scary if you are knitted.

Boco · 14/08/2007 21:10

Wow that's just fantastic, he's got such a lovely face - I want one! Just dragged my dp in to have a look too - you really clever you are.

GreebosWhiskers · 14/08/2007 21:19

Thanks everyone - I'm actually now!

I was really chuffed at how the face turned out as I've never made any toys before - I guess all the cross-stitch paid off lol.

I definitely have strange children. dd3's favourite game is to run around like a lunatic yelling 'aaarrrgh the daleks are coming' then leaping up on to the safe zone (the couch). If she gets scared at night I just tell her it's okay 'cos Dr Who's chased all the scaries away

Can you do one for me? I'll give it to DH as a christmas present, that'll give you around 5 months to make it!

Aitch · 14/08/2007 21:29

oh my god! that is wonderful, well done. i fancy it a little, though. which is wrong, isn't it?

TooTicky · 14/08/2007 21:35

My ds2 says, "I want it! I want it!!"

GreebosWhiskers · 14/08/2007 21:44

oneplusone - I can do one for you although it may not be exactly the same colours as I just used up old balls of yarn that I had laying around. This one took about 6 weeks but to be fair I did start another 3 projects in the meantime (I have such a short attention span) & I had to work out various bits of the pattern. Email me on [email protected] if you like

GreebosWhiskers · 14/08/2007 21:45

Aitch I kind of fancy it too. Am rather jealous of dd getting to take it to bed

OP posts:
Aitch · 14/08/2007 22:12

seriously, greebo. you should sell them on ebay. i think you'd do really well. i'd ove to own one myself. but that Would be Wrong, like i say.

GreebosWhiskers · 14/08/2007 22:33

Aitch - dh has suggested designing my own toys & selling the patterns on-line rather than selling a toy I've spent ages making (I'm probably the world's slowest knitter lol) for a tenner. Have to say I'm seriously considering it . . .

gb, i'm inclined to agree there is potentially more money to be made in selling a pattern than the finished item. there is a ceiling price you can charge for a ready made soft toy, which is unfortunately compromised by cheap ones available which are mass produced in the far east. i don't think the price would reflect the hours it took to knit.

but with a pattern its different, you are also selling the idea of hand crafting something, and passing on the know how.

Aitch · 14/08/2007 22:54

i'm sure, however, that you could enlist the help of an numbers of old wifies in fife and therefore keep your secrets to yourself...
