DaisyMOO - I am using some Texere Kool Kotton atm to practice Fair Isle. I thought it felt ok when I bought it, it was cheap so I thought I can just use it for practising with if it's no good. I'm not overly impressed tbh, it's a bit splitty and it doesn't feel as nice to knit with, slightly scratchy on the needles (I have just knitted something with Debbie Bliss cotton which was just lovely to use in comparison.) Having said that I think it looks ok knitted up.

DaisyMOO · 08/08/2007 14:43

That's interesting Tatties. I haven't placed my Texere order yet, I keep changing my mind about what to get! I have to say, although I've found Debbie Bliss cotton really lovely to knit with, I've been quite unimpressed with how well it's washed and worn - something I only knitted in May is now quite faded and crunchy, but I'm a fairly novice knitter so maybe that's par for the course with cotton in general

Hi,

have bookmarked the suggested sites. But need more Sirdar Click (John Lewis didn't have any left in the sale). Having to think about how to do the other side of the cushion... there's more to this pattern business than meets the eye!!

I used some Sirdar Luxury Cotton (proper name of the yarn?) to make my DS a jumper and it was lovely to knit up. Have no idea about it's wash and wear capabilities as the jumper is too big for DS and I;ve stored it for another day.

rantinghousewife · 08/08/2007 19:52

Miaou, thank you for being so generous, we'll have to compare the finished article!! Leo35, don't think I've ever seen the sirdar luxury cotton. Think peachyethknits might do it here, you could have a look there.

Leo35 · 08/08/2007 20:53

Luxury Soft Cotton on the peachyethknits site. I bought it from a local yarn shop and it is indeed lovely and soft! Thanks for another knitting site!

im knitting a moss stich jacket for my baby by debbie bliss but i read it wrong and have had to unpick and start again three times

rantinghousewife · 08/08/2007 21:04

Leo35, you're welcome and dressedup, I really hate when that happens. Thought I may have to unpick my tank but managed to reverse my mistake, don't ask how, I don't know!!

bundle · 09/08/2007 11:57

I am just starting a short-sleeved top by Debbie Bliss the one on the front cover

rantinghousewife · 09/08/2007 11:59

Very pretty, what colour? I am using debbie bliss wool/cotton to crochet a dress, am not sure if I like the wool or not.

bundle · 09/08/2007 12:01

a slightly darker pink than the pic..the yarn is incredibly soft as it's cashmere/cotton (in the sales ) but knitting in rib is a bit of a bind. ho hum

I'm going ot take it to Italy with me and hopefully finish it..

Still grinding through pastel nursery blocks blanket in Debbie Abrahams' book
Am going to do a log cabin blanket in rainbow cotton dk from Mason Dixon Knitting next
Lots of pretty projects on the go here, especially like that hoodie Miaou.
Also rate Texere for customer service, my Mason Dixon project will be made mostly from the glorious rich autumnal tones available in their double Top cotton range.
Kool Kotton is not a patch on the All Seasons truth to tell
It is worth watching out for Readicuts promos (although you have to put up with some jolly weird craft catalogues being sent too). I picked up a load of very reasonable Patons, Sirdar and Wendy cotton dks in their sale earlier this year, including some excellent colours in that Luxury Cotton range. I got 25% off and a mahoosive stash to show for it

rantinghousewife · 09/08/2007 12:06

See, I quite like the idea of jolly odd craft catalogues

Tamum · 09/08/2007 12:09

I am making a felted messenger bag which may well turn out hopeless on account of my laziness wrt swatching. Then I want to make a jumper with buttons up the side of the sleeve top (not explaining that well) to show off some of my Nichols' buttons. I went to GetKnitted (did I mention that already? ) and got some Cascade 220 for it. Oh, and a coupld of other things

bundle · 09/08/2007 12:45

I love just leafing through Mason Dixon

sigh

tamum, maybe when you're down here in the Smoke you could pop into V V Rouleaux

Tamum · 09/08/2007 13:16

I haven't got Mason Dixon, hmmm.....

Oh bundle, I've always wanted to go there. I see there's one in Glasgow too, so if I don't get time in London I could try there, hurrah. Thanks

florenceuk · 09/08/2007 14:05

Pruners, where is the lace leaf sweater from? such a lovely colour.

I'm just finishing off a baby cardigan based on this: daisy cardy but with garter-stitch edging and no extra increasing as it's for a boy. Not sure whether to do the ties or maybe a button like this one: stripey cardy. I love this top-down technique (no sewing up!) but I did the body first and sleeves last and ended up with a little hole at the joining point (where you picked up the stitches from the body) so maybe I'll try doing one with sleeves first (as per the instructions). I used Debbie Bliss cashmerino in minty green and it is really lovely to knit with.

Incidentally I saw this little cardy and thought how effective the contrast stocking sitch edging was: yet another baby cardy

Then I am going to knit a ribby scarf for a 40th birthday boy out of felted tweed felted tweed but with the yarn doubled - anyone have any views as to what needle size might work?

warthog · 09/08/2007 16:39

3.75 - 4mm needles for scarf, florence, i think.

i'm knitting this for dh

florenceuk · 09/08/2007 16:48

aah but I'm going to double the wool - so what needle size then?

warthog · 09/08/2007 17:10

sorry! didn't read properly! well, i'd experiment tbh. i'd get a 6, 7 and 8mm and see what kind of texture you want - loose and floppy or stiff. errr that doesn't sound too good...
