So....does anyone want to have a look at my toys horses?

I was wanting to learn to knit, tried Debbie Bliss (confused me), and whilst I wait for a left handed knitter to answer my ad in the local knitting shop I thought I'd make a toy horse (I drew a picture of a horse type thing for my dd and then made it into a pattern). Loads of people liked it (the first one I made for DS) and suggested I sell them. So I have a little shop here and am feeling ever so smugly proud and wanted to show them off to people. Do you like? (there are some really nice ones in the items sold setion)

Very cute ! I love the write ups on them too

loopyredangel · 31/07/2007 10:14

Hey Gingermonkey, they are gorgeous, very different and I love that!

Tillyboo · 31/07/2007 16:28

Fabulously different. I have made some similar types of things but I love your colours.

I've made hedgehogs with ribbons for spikes, little hands just love ribbon don't they. Bit like the taggy blankets.

Is Etsy easy to use ? Any pitfalls or negatives ? haven't used it as I thought it was just for the US.

lucykate · 31/07/2007 16:50

i like very much! i love anything made using fabric and felt.

i make soft toys too, not to sell though. for craft kits and magazine editorials/craft book projects.

southeastastra · 31/07/2007 16:59

they're mad

Gingermonkey · 31/07/2007 17:02

Thanks everyone. They have ribbon manes because my ds is addicted to his taggie, he now sits with taggie in one hand (ribbons up one nostril) and horse in the other (ribbons up the other nostril).

Tillyboo, Etsy is really easy to use, and cheap too (much cheaper than ebay). There are loads of UK based sellers, and it is really so international (although most are US based). I have been really lucky to get a few sales so far (and hopefully I will get more soon when people get their horses and I get the feedback). I was talking to a seasoned etsyan and she says you really need to promote yourself in the forums and get your name about, and that the summer is quite slow. My plan is that things will get quite busy for christmas (I hope so anyway!). So I am planning on making up quite a few in anticipation. I just really hope it takes off. I'm not very good at the whole self promotion thing though and 'hey, come and buy my things, I'm really great', I get too embarressed
I'm really pleased you all like them, I have been plucking up the courage to start the thread in case people went 'ugh, they're minging' (and then I'd cry!) LOL!

gingermonkey, have you thought about starting a craft blog?, lots of etsy sellers have one.

Gingermonkey · 31/07/2007 23:46

I have thought about it, but I'm not very good at all things techy. I like some of them on blogspot, and read a couple on a regular basis. It's one of my goals - figure out how to do a blog and make it look fab too (might need to get a techy friend to help...if I had one, maybe it's time to start hanging out in PC world )

I think these are really unusualy and different.

Q - I saw your post on Tillyboo's thread that you sell on Etsy. If it costs you $20 to list an item and you are only selling them for $18 how are you making any money?

Gingermonkey · 01/08/2007 09:14

silly monkey - 20cents per item!!!!! (thanks I am a dozy git sometimes!)

MadEyeMisdee · 01/08/2007 09:17

dizzyday07 · 01/08/2007 09:41

oohh - that's much better - might try some of my stuff!!

Gingermonkey · 01/08/2007 11:25

Madeye - cat me and I will happily do one for her

my dd would love one of these with tags on as she loves the ribbony bit is 13 months to young for one?
and do yu have them in pink

P.S I think the are great

ProfYaffle · 01/08/2007 11:37

Oh I'm so glad I got in early

Gingermonkey · 01/08/2007 11:47

prof - yours are in the post as we speak. I hope the girls are happy .

I can do appliqued and embroidered eyes and no buttons for a younger one, so there's no danger of choking, or sew the buttons on extra extra tight. I can do you a pink one, I have some felt here already for a pink one I was going to start for my neice (but she can wait, because she's not a proper customer! lol!).

gm, i have a blog, it was easier to set up than i though it would be. i use blogspot, but looked into using typepad too but you have to pay so chose the free one instead.

KitsAndBits · 02/08/2007 12:37

How much for a boys one?

THEYRE ADORABLE!

Gingermonkey · 02/08/2007 15:27

lucykate - I have looked at blogspot, I read paperandstring's which is on there and it looks fab. I think I will eventually get round to it...I'm just a bit scared of techy things, lol! And I never think anyone would want to read about my boring life....I got up, got the kids ready, did a bit of cleaning, did a bit of sewing, pricked my thumb again, found a plaster etc etc!!!! what is yours so I can have a nosey? (if you don't mind of course)

KitsAndBits - thank you very much . They are £10 posted, I have a few boys ones on etsy which you can just go ahead and buy...or have a look at the sold items where I have another boy one I just made for someone, or let me know what kind of colours you like and I can do one for you. I made a very nice red one with gingham ribbons and a stripey nose for a friend, but the pic isn't on etsy. I was rather fond of him. Either contact me via etsy or my email which is katyejones at hotmail dot com, or cat me - oooh, choices choices

kitsandbits - i tell a lie, here is a pic of the red one. I'd forgotten I had put a pic of him on another listing.

They are fantastic! I love them. I've bookmarked the page for when I find out the sex of my friends baby.
I am so envious of people who can sew and I really love all the fabrics you use.

Gingermonkey · 02/08/2007 16:10

I feel ever so warm and fuzzy, thank you very much everyone...I was so worried people would say they were crap.

OP posts:
peanutbear · 02/08/2007 19:17

cool how do I order one

Gingermonkey · 02/08/2007 19:24

either go to my shop (link down below somewhere) or you can email me (katyejones at hotmail dot com) and I can do it that way. Whatever is easiest.
