OvO
Wow you are good 💫
You made me think of my dgm, who died a long time ago. She was a embroidery wizard, into her late 80ies. If she was to embroider a bird she made my dgf find a death one 😨 so she could get the colours exactly right 😂.
But because of her i know the time and money you put into it. Perhaps you should show it off in Instagram to see if anyone is interested 😀.

Thanks again everyone!

Josepheen, yes you buy a pattern and just follow it! Or you can buy a kit (best for beginners) and evrything is provided for you - fabric, thread, pattern, needle.

Or you can make your own patterns. That’s one of the few ways to make money in cross stitch.

It starts off as a small inexpensive hobby then next thing you know you’re learning how to hand dye fabrics yourself and have a stockpile of threads! Grin. There’s loads of FB groups and they’re very welcoming to people just starting, if you do fancy trying it out.

Thanks, Josepheen. Smile

I’ve been bad at properly finishing things and have a drawer full of finished stuff but I’m starting to frame things now. I think a few will be made into pillows and I’m thinking of turning the Harry Potter crest into a bag!

PlasticPatty · 04/03/2019 12:06

Lovely work.

SileneOliveira · 04/03/2019 13:45

Fabulous! (We're all Hufflepuff in this house apart from DS who is a Slytherin).

I used to do a lot of cross stitch and once you get the hang of it, it's really easy. Basically just counting. Intricate ones are obviously more challenging.

Check your local charity shops, we get a LOT of kits donated in ours and it's a good way of trying out the craft and seeing if it's for you without shelling out £££ on a kit.

justthecat · 04/03/2019 13:48

I love the lady and butterflies. Where are you getting your patterns? I love to do cross stitch but can never find patterns that I'd like to display afterwards so never bother.

OvO · 06/04/2019 19:10

Baby, there's so many designers appeared in yhe oast couple of years! Have you looked on etsy? Its mainly pdf's now so nice an instantaneous.

The butterfly lady is from Heaven and Earth Designs (they do many half price sales so if you do find something you like you could just wait a little bit for the sales to roll around again).

I also like Tilton Crafts. They do frequent sales too.

Another fav is Carolyn Manning. She does sales often too but you'd need to check her Facebook page for the codes.

And a recent favourite is mybobbin.com which is full of russian designers and used to be all in russian but theyve finally given us an english version! The crests I've posted are on this website too.

I have lots from etsy but you have to be careful as some people just chuck artwork through a computer program so the patterns are AWFUL. Check for photos of already stitched designs.

I joined lots of Facebook groups and see so many patterns posted that I love- its great for inspiration!
