I've just found the bag of fabrics I knew I had but had misplaced! I have lots of bunting & am going to make a couple of festive cushion covers but could do with some other ideas for small, fairly simple projects, tree decoration that sort of thing.

A patchwork table runner. There are plenty of ideas on Pinterest. I like the Christmas tree ones.

Do you have a tree skirt?

Mini stockings - make 24 for a refillable Advent calendar.

We have a fabric bread basket that I use in the summer when we have a barbecue - I think one in festive fabrics would look lovely.

Haha! Table runners are one of the reasons I've got such a stash! I like the idea of the tree skirt though & possibly the bread basket. Thank youSmile

Soooooo going to make a Christmas Tree skirt. Massive lurker on this thread. Just getting into quilting. Thank you for the idea.

theboxofdelights · 21/10/2018 08:31

Lots of Christmas tree skirt designs free to download on craftsy OP. I got one myself a couple of weeks ago as I too have got tons of Xmas fabric to use.

Rag wreath?

Sinkingfeeling · 25/10/2018 20:09

I made bunting with my Christmas stash a couple of years ago. Everyone comments on it Smile

I saw this online tutorial for making hanging stars out of fabric strips, they would look fabulous made with Christmas prints - I have some festive print fat quarters bought cheaply from Hobbycraft after last Christmas and am keen to have a go!

Excellent! Currently making a Christmas tree skirt thanks to some great tips on here. And drinking wine. Does that help?

glamorousgrandmother · 27/10/2018 18:37

I have just this afternoon cut out pieces from my Aldi Christmas fat quarters for a tree skirt. No pattern I'm just using maths - I made a triangle template with a 45 degree point then cut the point off. I allowed for seams and it seems to fit into a circle (octagon really) although I haven't sewn it yet. I'm not sure how big it needs to be and whether I'll need a wide border.

Little holders for knives and forks for the Christmas table

Bellini 🍷 always helps.
Glamorous fat quarters in Aldi Shock I didn't know that. I'll have a look tomorrow

bellinisurge · 27/10/2018 18:45

@glamorousgrandmother - my dd has plans for her Aldi fat quarters.
Also using maths. Before the wine

We have a (much bigger than the instructions) fabric tree on the doors, and a stuffed tree for the table.

I like the stars. Will try those - may be in paper first so I know I can do them!!

glamorousgrandmother · 27/10/2018 19:27

redshoeblueshoe I got the fat quarters a couple of weeks ago plus a nice pink and blue floral set. They get them in from time to time but I'm not sure if there will be any left.

Lwmommy · 27/10/2018 19:35

Scented stuffed hearts with a ribbon hanging loop. You can use cinamon, clove, citrus oils on a scrap of fabric in with the stuffing, so you have that xmas scent throughout the house.

Xmas stockings and fill them with goodies for the woolley hugs project on mumsnet.

AdaColeman · 27/10/2018 19:49

Another vote for scented hearts, they would go well in hampers or adult stockings too.

Fabric drawstring gift bags would be simple, as would napkins.

Redshoeblueshoe · 27/10/2018 22:58

Thanks glamorous, I normally use my local Aldi, but we often go to the one at White City
Thanks x

This place is great for fat quarters and cheap fabrics. The website is a bit pants, if youre able to get to the warehouse, take plenty of cash or your credit card and a couple of empty bags. fabricguild.co.uk

I'd second the small stocking advent calendar. I made mine with felt cuffs and embroidered the numbers on. It takes ages! I was pregnant with DS and pretty much glued to my sewing machine in the last trimester!

Do you have any scraps big enough to use as wrapping paper, tied up with ribbon? Even for small gifts.

I'm just googling tree skirts and those folded fabric stars mentioned.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 28/10/2018 08:08

We made Christmas lavender bags one year for the school fete. They might go nicely if you're giving any clothes as presents?

ValiaH · 28/10/2018 08:10

Reusable wrapping paper? I have some Christmassy fat quarters specifically to us for wrapping this year to cut down on paper waste.

lecossaise · 28/10/2018 08:14

You can make a wreath by cutting up lots (and lots and lots) of small strips and tying them around a hoop of some kind (I just bent a wire coat hanger) - looks great!

I also made some star decorations which are easy to do - look on pinterest for fabric stars.

bellinisurge · 28/10/2018 08:20

@Lwmommy - just looked at that website. Somebody stop me!
